We Are Ready To Surrender- Militants

Members of the Bakassi Strike Force (BSF) based in Cross Rovers State has expressed readiness to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
The military special unit, the Operation Delta Safe (ODS) under the command of Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, in several raids carried over out recently, smoked out the militants from their hideouts killing some of them and burning down their shrines.
In a twist, the group expressed a desire to lay down arms if the concerns of Bakassi returnees were addressed under a scheme midwifed by international mediators.
The BSF spokesman, Mr. Simply Benjamin (aka Humble Lion G1) claimed that the grievances of the group had nothing to do with vandalism of national assets.
He said it was regrettable that military authorities had killed several innocent people in the guise of trailing members of the militant groups.
Benjamin appealed to the Federal Government to withdraw the military as they were in the struggle for self-determination and posed no threat to national security.
He explained that unlike other militant groups, BSF have no record of destroying oil installations and was not involved in molesting innocent citizens.
He disclosed that despite offering to work with the government to address the concerns of the Bakassi returnees, the military had been on his trail.
According to him: “BSF has been agitating against the poor implementation of the Greentree Agreement after ceding Bakassi to Cameroon leaving Nigerians resident in the Peninsular without proper resettlement. We are ready to lay down arms and embrace dialogue under a process to be brokered by the international community to ensure that the Nigerian returnees were properly resettled and rehabilitated.
“Our grievance against the Federal Government has to do with the way Nigeria ceded our ancestral land to Cameroon without recourse to the feelings and rights of the people to self-determination. Under the Greentree Agreement there were steps to be taken to ensure that the fundamental rights of the returnees were protected but the government has not fulfilled its obligations under the agreement.
“We have not resorted to destroying national assets like other Niger Delta militants because it does not make sense, if we destroy assets that yield revenue, how will the Federal Government get money to fund the projects we yearn for?”
Meanwhile, the Africa Liberation Network, (ALNET), has urged the Federal Government to embrace an all inclusive, balanced and transparent dialogue with representatives of communities in the troubled Niger Delta region.
The pan-Niger Delta group in a statement by its coordinator, Eddy Macaulay insisted that it was only through an all inclusive dialogue that militancy could become history in the region.
Macauley condemned activities of militants including pipeline vandalism, even as he flayed leaders of the region for selling their place to militants, who now parade themselves as leaders of the region.
He said the agitation of a few claiming to be speaking for the region should be reviewed to accommodate all the critical interests in the region, rather than concentrating on the conditions or negotiators given by groups such as the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) as the basis for negotiations.
Macaulay emphasized that any negotiation on behalf of the Niger Delta should involve at least a representative from each of the oil producing community.
The statement which commended the FG on the decision to open negotiations with leaders of the region, charged the region’s stakeholders to wake-up to their responsibilities by standing for what is right regardless of who is involved.

“We’re Ready To Surrender” – Ijaw Militants in Lagos, Ogun States.

Just few days after Ijaw Youth Council claimed that the guys attacking, looting communities in parts of Lagos and Ogun states were not from Ijaw, some revelations are beginning to play out.
Militants and pipeline vandals within Arepo have indicated their commitment to surrender their arms to the Federal Government.

Leader of the Ijaw militant group – Forest Soldiers and Adaka Boro Last Born – General Agbala, told The Sun in a private telephone interview that they are agitators and not criminals.
The Army, Air Force and the Navy, have been giving them the heat through aerial bombardment to rid the Arepo area of criminal elements.

The operation which also involve the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has recorded substantial success.

The militants leader, Agbala who spoke partly in pidgin English in the wake of the bombardment of the areas, said he has been doing his best to rid the area of criminal elements, saying that kidnapping has never been in his line. He said a visit to Ogun State would reveal that he had in the past handed over a man named Ototo to the police, Bishibishi and other boys.

Agbala said, “something like kidnapping, armed robbery, I am not involved. But na some bad people dey spoil my name up and down. Na im make me dey vex.”
Speaking on their interaction with the government delegation that visited their camps, Agbala said the visit took place last year and he was the one who received the officials.

Agbala said they told the government delegation that they had no problem with anyone, even as he stated that they had since been waiting for the implementation of the negotiation before the ongoing crisis started. On how to end the pipeline vandalism, Agbala said the government delegation requested they stop vandalizing pipelines so that they would be given contract to secure the pipelines, some would be sent to school, while others would engage in vocational training.

Asked to distinguish between vandals and militants, particularly where his group belong to, Agbala said even though they are in Ogun and Lagos states, they are of Ijaw origin.
Corroborating Agbala’s submission, the General Secretary of Forest Soldiers and Adaka Boro Last Born, Honourable Omomoh, said they have always been assisting government in ridding the areas of criminal elements, saying they made some arrests in the past which the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ogun State can testify to.
“We are still waiting for them. We are always loyal to the government, but the casualties recorded are too high,” Omomoh declared.

Meanwhile, the Joint Force, Operation Delta Safe (ODS), has allayed the fears of people in the Niger Delta region over any possible break of law and order.

The Commander of the ODS, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie who spoke in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State vowed that the military would not abdicate its responsibilities to protect the territorial integrity, lives and property in the region.
While dismissing threats by those he stated have no social base, he assured that ODS with its multi agency composition is capable of nipping any security situation in the bud.

We Won’t Force Land Owners To Surrender Them For Grazing– FG

The Federal Government at the weekend said that it would neither force people to surrender land nor seize anybody’s land for grazing purposes in the country.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said this when he received in audience a delegation from Oyo State Government led by the Special Adviser on Projects to Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tolu Shadipe, in his office. Specifically, the minister stressed that government was not going to seize anybody’s land or force people to surrender land for ranches, disclosing that about 6,000 applicants had so far indicated interests in cattle breeding improvement programme in the country.
This is even as he explained that the focus of the present administration was on the sustainable development of agriculture to save the country from the present economic woes and assured that the Federal Government would continue to develop a strong partnership with state governments. Ogbeh also assured Oyo State Government of President Buhari-led administration’s support in the state’s efforts to optimally develop its agricultural potentials, while urging the state government to leverage on the abundant rainfall in the state to develop ranches for the cattle breeding improvement programme.
He said: “I think ranching is something that can be controlled and it is something that can be carried out in Oyo State by farmers who want to do so and for that we can give some supports”. The minister also advised the state government to expand its cocoa production with the newly improved variety of cocoa with 18 months maturity date, noting that Nigeria, being one of the leading countries in cocoa production after Ivory Coast and Ghana, should take its rightful position. According to him, the FMARD has mapped out various initiatives and programmes such as the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise (LIFE) project to support state governments, thereby creating jobs and wealth for mostly women and the youths across the country.
Ogbeh explained further that Oyo State, being the hub of poultry business in West Africa, should intensify efforts in expanding the business frontiers to take advantage of opportunities of the implementation of the school feeding programme, which would require a child eating 2 to 3 eggs per week, to boost the state’s economy.
On Federal Government’s plans to enhance agriculture nationwide, the minister said that the Buhari-led government would collaborate with state governments to expand the irrigation systems, noting that Kano and Oyo states, given the fact that they have the highest numbers of dams would benefit maximally from the irrigation projects.

ISIS Beheads 8 Syria Rebels who Surrendered

Islamic State group jihadists beheaded eight Syrian rebels who had surrendered in a town on the border with Iraq last week despite pledges of an amnesty, a monitor said Monday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the men were executed and their bodies hung on makeshift crucifixes in Albu Kamal in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

“The men surrendered in Albu Kamal because the Islamic State had offered amnesty to people who fought them if they turned themselves in,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Instead, he said, the eight opposition fighters were beheaded and then hung from crosses in a method often employed by the jihadist group.

The monitor, which relies on a large network of sources on the ground in Syria, said the men had belonged to a group that had fought against both the Syrian regime and the Islamic State.

Meanwhile, in the city of Deir Ezzor, the provincial capital, IS jihadists decapitated another three men, also hanging their corpses from crosses, the Observatory said.

The group said it was unclear when the executions took place, adding that two of the men were accused of collaboration with the Syrian regime and the third of fighting against the Islamic State.
