Police in Enugu arrest three suspected robbers with bullet wounds in hospital

The Police Command in Enugu State on Wednesday said that it had arrested three armed robbery suspects ridden with bullet wounds through hospitals’ surveillance in Nsukka axis of Enugu State.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Friday engaged bandit in a gun duel, leaving one dead and many with bullet injures fleeing at about 7:15pm in Odenigwe Road in Nsukka.

The command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, told NAN in Enugu that the first suspect was arrested following continuous surveillance and information from a public spirited individual at about 6:30am on Tuesday.

Amaraizu said: “One of the suspects, identified as Kelechukwu Isiani of Amukpa Ogboalla Opi in Nsukka Local Government Area, was arrested at a hospital where he had allegedly gone to treat bullet wounds he sustained in the hand and chest.

“Suspect is now helping the police in their investigations, which also led to the arrest of two other members of the gang at their hideout.

“The two arrested members of the notorious robbery gang who gave their names as Nnamdi Omeje, a.k.a. Obele, and a female member of the gang identified as Chiamaka Agbo.

“The three of them are currently helping police operatives in their investigation.”

The police spokesman noted that the command had already renewed and increased its onslaught against crime and criminality in the state.

The suspects, who were paraded at the state Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, included two exconvicts, who were released from prison few weeks ago. Police Commissioner, Mr. Leye Oyebade, while speaking with journalists, said all the suspects have given confessional statements and they would soon be arraigned in a court of law.

While warning criminally- minded persons to stay away from the state, he said the command would continue to improve on its crime bursting strategies to ensure the state was crime-free, adding that the command has re-engineered and re-invigorated its swift anti-robbery squad for effective crime bursting It would be recalled that two weeks ago, the state police command recovered 20 vehicles and arrested 15 suspected armed robbers.

Various items recovered from the suspects paraded yesterday include one locally made double barrel pistol, seven live cartridges, one Honda Accord car with registration number JJJ 691AX, one Toyota Camry car with registration number AKD 226 DN, a Toyota Camry car with registration number AAA 593 DL, one LG Plasma TV, one Toshiba Plasma TV, one unregistered Toyota Highlander, one green Toyota Highlander with registration number ABJ 42 KU and one ash coloured unregistered Toyota Camry, among others. Speaking on the armed robbery suspects and serial burglars that have been terrorising the inhabitants of Ibadan and its environs, the police boss said the four gang of robbers (Olusola Adenle, 37; Rasaq Femi, 23; Paul Olaitan, 20; and Sani Abdulahi, 26) had successfully broken into a home at the Egbeda area of Ibadan and carted away various household items.
