#HesNotMyPresident: Americans distance themselves from Donald Trump.

Billionaire businessman Donald Trump was today declared the next President of the United States after winning the 2016 election.

Trump opened up a lead against opponent Hillary Clinton in the early hours of the morning before making a victory speech when the news was finally confirmed.

As riots break out across the USA, Americans against Trump’s presidency have been taking to social media to voice their despair, disbelief and terror at the news – with some even comparing the outcome to 9/11.

And many are immediately distancing themselves from the decision by using the hashtag #HesNotMyPresident. Below are some tweets some Americans tweeted in defiance of Donald Trump’s election victory.

Kuje Prison Riot: Boko Haram Prisoner Caught With 25 Phones

Sporadic gunfire caused pandemonium at Kuje Prison, Abuja, on Monday, following a riot by some inmates, who resisted the attempt by prison officials to search their cells for banned items.

It was gathered that security operatives fired gunshots and tear gas canisters to restore law and order and control the rioters.

This happened 11 days after a similar incident in Abakaliki Prison, Ebonyi State, that led to the death of six inmates and injuries to four prison warders.

The Monday riot occurred two months after two inmates, standing trial for culpable homicide, escaped from the Kuje Prison on June 25. The fleeing inmates have yet to be re-arrested.

Sources in the prison said the violent protest was brought under control by the armed squad of the Nigerian Prisons Service supported by soldiers providing additional security cover for the formation.

The incident, it was learnt, caused panic among residents of Kuje community, who believed that the prison was under attack by terrorists.

The Controller of Prisons, FCT Command, Daniel Odharo, in a statement, confirmed the crisis at the prison but said there was no injury or escape by inmates.

Odharo said, “At about 1000hrs on Monday, staff of Kuje Prison carried out a routine cell-search which is a part of the prisons operational guidelines to prevent the breach of security within and around the prisons.

“Some inmates tried to resist the exercise, which led to an altercation between the search party and the inmates. This was quickly put under effective control. No prisoner was injured, no property damaged and the yard is calm and peaceful.”

Investigations indicated that the violence was instigated by convicts, who refused to allow  warders to carry out a search on their cells for prohibited items.

It was gathered from a reliable source in the prison that during the search, 25 mobile sets were recovered from a suspected Boko Haram inmate.

The source stated, “The incident happened this morning. The warders, who were acting on instructions from the prison authorities, decided to search the cells and seize prohibited items.

“During the search, they found 25 handsets with a Boko Haram suspect. After a search of the convicts’ cells, they moved to the awaiting-trial cells.

“But those men, who saw the warders approaching with some ‘already’ seized items, decided to resist them.  They attacked the warders with stones and every object they could lay their hands on, and in the process, many of the warders were injured.”

It was gathered that after a search, some substances, suspected to be cannabis, were also uncovered in some cells and confiscated.

Another prison source said that the warders, who were overwhelmed, retreated for reinforcement.

They were said to have opened fire on some of the inmates, during which some of them were injured, though it could not be ascertained if any of the inmates died as some suspected.

“I can’t say the total number of casualties among the inmates, but I can confirm to you that many of the warders were injured,” he added.

The source explained that the inmates resisted the warders because the prohibited items were brought in by warders after being tipped.

He said, “The rot in the Nigerian Prisons Service is serious. The prohibited items that the warders wanted to seize were brought into the yard by the same warders.

“The inmates had been enjoying this privilege through trafficking by the warders. It is only natural that they will fight back, and it is a bad trend for the prisons service.”

Kuje Prison Riot Under Control, No Inmate Shot- NPS

The FCT Controller of Prisons, Mr Daniel Odahro, on Monday confirmed there was a ‘minor riot’ by inmates at the Kuje Prison.

“There was a minor riot at the Kuje Prison, but the situation has been brought under control,” Odahro told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja.

He explained that a ‘disagreement’ ensued at about 10.30am on Monday, when some inmates resisted the routine search in their cells.

Odahro said the situation was subsequently brought under control by the security operatives on duty and that no inmate escaped from the facility.

He dismissed claims that inmates were shot and insisted that the situation had been completely taken care of.

“There was nothing like an attempted jail break, yes we had a minor disagreement between prison officials and some inmates, who refused the routine morning search in their cells.

“I can categorically tell you that no inmate escaped and the situation has been brought under control, ’’he said.

Odahro said security had been beefed up in and around the prison to forestall a recurrence.

52 Die In Mexico Prison Riot, As Families Rush Out To See If Relatives Are Alive

A battle between rival groups at a prison near Monterrey in northern Mexico has left 52 inmates dead. Nuevo Leon state Governor Jaime Rodriguez said 12 other people were injured in Topo Chico jail after prisoners fought with “sharp weapons, bats and sticks”.

A fire was also started in a storage room. Officials say the situation is under control and no inmates escaped.

Crowds of relatives outside the jail blocked roads, demanding information. Some threw sticks and
rocks and tried to pull the prison gate open as riot police blocked their way. The incident comes just days before Pope Francis is due to visit a prison in the northern city of Ciudad Juarez, an area notorious for violence between drugs cartels.

Riot In Bauchi Over Appointment Of New Emir, Govt. Imposes Curfew

The Bauchi State Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Misau town following a riot that trailed the appointment of a new emir by the state government.

The curfew, which the government said is parts of measures to safeguard the lives of the people, will last between 6pm and 6am each day.

It has been reported that riot broke out in the town following the appointment of the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Sulaiman, as the 11th Emir of Misau by Governor Mohammed Abubakar.

Some residents apparently had expected one of the scions of late emir or a close member of the Gwani Mukhtar ruling dynasty to be appointed to the throne.

A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Abdul Ilelah, said: “Reports reaching the State Government have indicated that after the official announcement of the appointment of the 11th Emir of Misau and the successful conduct of all the traditional rites, some mischief makers have taken advantage of the apparent jubilant mood of the people and instigated youths into smashing vehicles parked at the? emir’s palace.

“Government views this development as the handiwork of the evil doers who are bent on destroying the prevailing peace and security being enjoyed in the state in order to enjoy selfish objectives.”
