FIFA Cancels Yellow Card Shown To Mikel And Two Others Against Denmark

Three Nigerian players have been given the all clear by FIFA ahead of Nigeria’s semi final game against Germany, after it was confirmed that the cautioned they picked up against Denmark has been wiped out.

The trio of Muenfuh Sincere, Usman Muhammed and team captain Mikel Obi had their caution wiped out, hence will approach the tie against Germany without any fear of a possible booking that

will see them miss the final if they beat the Germans.

FIFA amended it’s tournaments rules few years ago, canceling single yellow cards picked up during quarter final games to stem the tide of key players missing final games due to accumulated bookings.

Going by the rules, only the deputy captain of the Nigerian team Azubuike Okechukwu is suspended for Wednesday semi final clash against Germany, as the booking he picked up against Denmark was his second of the tournament.

Barely 20 Hours to the kick-off of the much expected 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, a full schedule of the sporting activities in which Team Nigeria will participate has been released.

As the Olympics is scheduled to start on Friday, Nigeria will first feature in a Group B Men’s tournament football match against Japan after which the country’s flag bearer at the Olympics, Funke Oshonaike and her male Table Tennis counterpart Segun Toriola, will participate in the preliminaries of the table tennis singles.

Thereafter, Nigerian football team will play the second leg of the Group B match against Sweden on Sunday at about 2:00am Nigerian time.

Rio Olympics: Sports Minister, Dalung Hails Dream Team For Beating Japan

Youths & Sports Development Minister, Barr. Solomon Dalung has hailed the U-23 Eagles for their victory against Japan in their first Group B match of men’s football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Eagles despite arriving Manaus from Atlanta, USA, few hours before the game put up a strong showing in their win against the Asians.

Dalung, who took to microblogging site, Twitter to heap plaudits on the Samson Siasia tutored lads for their fighting spirit and patriotism, said: “I heartily congratulate the national U-23 football team for their outstanding 5-4 victory over Japan in their opening Group B game.”
