The Nigerian Defence Headquarters said on Thursday that government troops have taken full control of Mafa, Borno State, after clearing Boko Haram terrorists from the town on Wednesday evening. The information was conveyed in a statement posted on the official website of the Defence Headquarters.
“Troops are now in full control of Mafa, Borno State, after completing the operation to clear terrorists from the town yesterday evening,” the military said.

Defence headquarters of the Nigerian Army claimed that they recaptured Gombi, Pelia and Hong in Adamawa State, towns that were earlier ran over by Boko Haram Insurgents.
The news was welcomed with doubts and criticisms, of which many said the Defence Headquarters was fond of lying about it operations, referring to the fake cease fire that was agreed between the Federal Government and the insurgents.

Operations are ongoing within those areas as the military says it will not render mercy to any terrorist.
The operation is called ‘Operation No Mercy against Terrorists.”
The Nigerian army said Sunday it had recaptured the northeastern town of Chibok, where Islamic militants abducted more than 200 schoolgirls in April, provoking a wave of global outrage.
Control of Chibok is crucial to the reputation of the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and the military, which have both come under fire at home and abroad for their failure to rescue the girls.
The army recaptured the town from Boko Haram militants late Saturday, spokesman General Olajide Olaleye told AFP in a text message.
“Mopping up ops ongoing. (The) town is now secured,” he said.
The operation came just days after Jonathan on Tuesday announced his bid for re-election, vowing to defeat Boko Haram whose brutal five-year insurgency has plagued his first term in office.

Defense Headquarters in Abuja has ordered retreating troops to go back and recapture the Mubi from the insurgents.
Reports say that Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, whose hometown, Vimtim, less than 15 miles from the location of the insurgents, is angry at the action of the fleeing soldiers.
Sources say that the soldiers who fled yesterday have now been ordered to converge at Song, a small township and await final orders to march on Mubi to confront the insurgents and try to dislodge them, adding that there was no aircrafts set to assist the relaunch.
