North Korea: Kim Jong-un’s Wife Reappears In Public After Long Mysterious Absence

The wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reappeared in public after a nine-month-long absence. The reasons for her disappearance are still not known, but speculation has been rife.

Ri Sol-ju emerged in public along with Kim during an air combat training competition conducted by the Korean People’s Air Force and Defense (KPAF).

Pyongyang’s state-run mouthpiece Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the event without many details about the presence of Ri. The exact date of the occasion is also unclear.

This is said to be the first time in nearly nine months Ri was mentioned by the North Korean state media as her last appearance was on 28 March.

Rumours have been doing the rounds that she might have been removed from Kim’s inner circle.

NSCDC Alerts Public Of Fake Recruitment

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Benue has alerted the public of the existence of employment racket within the command.

The NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Shuaibu Jibrin, said on Thursday that the racket had been collecting money from applicants in the guise of offering them employment into the organisation.

Jibrin, however, assured that its searchlights had already been beamed on the perpetrators while explaining that all recruitment exercises by the organisation “are properly advertised through the mass media”.

He said, “Currently, the NSCDC is not carrying out any recruitment, the NSCDC recruits based on certain criteria and merit which is always advertised through the mass media.”

He said applicants had never been charged during NSCDC’s recruitment exercises, and assured that those behind the syndicate would soon be apprehended and brought to justice.

He also expressed regrets about the frequent vandalism of public utilities, especially pipelines and cables by unpatriotic citizens.

The commandant said the command had stepped up its surveillance activities over such public utilities to prevent the operations of the vandals.

He disclosed that three vandals had already been apprehended and were facing trial in the state.

He, however, advised authorities of the electricity company covering the state to ensure proper identification of its staff working on transformers and handling underground cables to avoid arrest by his men.

Jibrin also commended the state government for pledging to donate brand new tyres for their functional vehicles which had old tyres to enhance the command’s work in the state.

Philippines President-Elect: Public ‘Can Kill’ Criminals

Philippines president-elect Rodrigo Duterte effectively said he supports vigilantism in a nationally-televised speech.

Faced with criminals who resist arrest or threaten citizens, the controversial politician suggested that it was fine for citizens to take the law into their own hands.

“If he fights, and he fights to the death, you can kill him,” said the former mayor of Davao City, who was elected to the presidency in a decisive victory last month.

During the address, Duterte also encouraged citizens to use deadly force against drug dealers who threaten them. “Please feel free to call us, the police, or do it yourself if you have the gun … you have my support,” he told the crowd and television cameras.

“Shoot him [the drug dealer] and I’ll give you a medal.”

NNPC Warns Public Against Fake Recruitment

NNPC has warned the public to disregard any invitation on recruitment exercise. In a statement made available to journalists by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe, the corporation called on members of the public to be wary of fraudsters sending letters to unsuspecting individuals inviting them for “the second process of recruitment” billed to hold on February 29, saying it is currently not recruiting. “The scam invitation letters, which directed recipients to pay the sum of N21,500 into a certain account number with Zenith Bank purportedly for ‘onshore and offshore/training kits/materials’ should be disregarded as they were not sent by the corporation,” the NNPC warned. It further warned that “anyone who entertains such invitations or deals with peddlers of such invitations does so at his or her own risk.”

The corporation urged anyone contacted for the purpose of the purported recruitment by the corporation to report such persons to relevant law enforcement agencies. Meanwhile, the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, has assured of ample products supply in the Lagos area following a hitch in the products supply system in the Lagos environs. The PPMC, a subsidiary of the NNPC, says it has intervened in the crisis which is arising from the leadership tussle between the Mobil branch and national office of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union. The PPMC stated that it has intervened in the dispute, assuring that normalcy will soon be restored. It further assured that there was sufficient stock of products in Lagos and across the country while advising motorists not to resort to panic buying, stressing that the situation was under control. The corporation further reiterated its commitment to uninterrupted product supply to the general public in keeping with its mandate of ensuring products sufficiency across the country. However, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, while insisting that the supply to Lagos is inadequate, has called on NNPC to step up import of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol to avert another round of scarcity.

Couple Brutally Caned In Public For Crime Of Affectionate Contact In Indonesia (SEE PHOTOS)

A woman who was accused of being too friendly with a man she is not married to, as well as the man himself, were caned at a mosque in Indonesia’s Aceh province on Monday.

According to the Jakarta Post, the caning took place before a yelling crowd at Baiturrahim Mosque in Banda Aceh after the couple was sentenced according to the city’s Sharia bylaws, which criminalize “khalwat (affectionate contact by an unmarried couple).”

“Take these punishments as a lesson. What has been done by these convicts should not be taken as an example. And, I hope their canings in Meuraxa district today will be the last ever,” Deputy Mayor Zainal Arifin told the crowd, according to the Post. “And to the public, I ask that you do not isolate those who have been convicted here today. And also, those who have been convicted are reminded not to repeat the same mistakes.“

Head Of Service Cautions Public Of Fraudsters Using Her Name To Defraud On Facebook

The acting Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Ekanem Oyo-Ita, has alerted Nigerians of a Facebook account, opened in her name, and allegedly used to defraud Nigerians seeking employment.

In a statement, the deputy director media relations, Mohammed Manga, said the account neither belongs to the service nor its acting head?,? Ms. Oyo-Ita.

“The attention of the Office of the Head of Civil Service has been drawn to the false face book account created in its name and that of the Acting Head of the Federal Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo- Ita?,” the statement said.

“The false account purportedly carried advertisements for vacancies in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation?.”

He warned Nigerians to desist from using the Facebook account?,? describing it as dubious.

“The Account is a scam created by fraudsters aimed at misleading and duping innocent job seeking public”.

“The Acting Head of the Civil Service has no such account, more so the office of the Head of service does not advertise vacancies for employment in the offices as dubiously stated in the page”.

“The public is therefore warned to disregard the face book account and any information it may carry”, the statement read.

Being famous comes with a cost, especially when it’s on Twitter. And they say original is an indication that the fake exists. And for that reason, JJ. Omojuwa, the verified twitter account has a counterfeit.

The impersonator uses the same avatar, same name, except for an additional letter “a” at the end. More so, the fake account has 5 followers… Pathetic… few mentions and therefore, cannot be verified.

Public Asset Declaration Should Be Made Compulsory- Ex-Finance Minister

A former Minister of State for Finance, Remi Babalola, on Tuesday proposed the expansion of the whistle blowing and fraud protocols by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to include payment of 10 percent of the total value of undeclared assets by public officials to whistle-blowers/informants, if successfully prosecuted.

Mr. Babalola said public asset declaration should be made compulsory for all principal officers in the executive arm of government, from the president to the ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general, and heads of parastatals and agencies to curb the alarming rate of corruption in the country.

Why President Buhari Didn’t Declare Assets Publicly- Aides

Aides of President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, explained why the president did not declare his assets publicly. They said he will make his assets known to Nigerians within the first 100 days of his stay in power in line with his assertions before the election.

Meanwhile, there were mixed reactions, yesterday, on the report that the president and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had submitted their assets declaration to the Code of Conduct Bureau without immediately making them public.

A civil rights group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, argued that it was imperative for the duo to make public their assets. It said the action will indicate “their desire and commitment to ending corruption in the country.” The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on its part, said it would allow Buhari to settle down for governance before taking him to task on his campaign promises.

However, some notable Nigerians disagreed over call for the public declaration of assets by the president and his vice president.

Among those who expressed divergent views were constitutional lawyer, Professor Itse Sagay, SAN; Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN; rights crusader, Mr Femi Falana, SAN; Mr Kayode Ajulo; Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed and rights activist, Mr Mohammed Fawehinmi.

A close associate of the president, however, debunked criticisms on the issue saying, yesterday, that the president still has 97 days within which to make his assets public as he promised during the campaigns.

President Buhari had in a document on his plan of action within the first 100 days of assumption of office as president promised to make his assets declaration public and influence his appointees to do the same.

“In the document the president said what he would do within the first 100 days and among them was that he would declare his assets publicly in the first 100 days. How many hours has he been in office? How many days after his inauguration?

“I think that the president should be given the benefit of the doubt. It is only three days since he came to office. Does he not deserve the benefit of the balance of the 96 remaining days? I think he deserves commendations”, the source close to the president said on the basis of anonymity.

Firing Rehearsal Of 21 Gun Salute For Buhari’s Inauguration, Army Tells Public Not To Panic

The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Monday in Abuja alerted the public on firing of artillery guns for Presidential Inauguration and Swearing in Ceremony come May 29.

This information is contained in a statement issued by Major Charles Ekeocha, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations in the Guards Brigade.

The statement quoted Ekeocha as saying “rehearsal for the Presidential Inauguration and Swearing in Ceremony has commenced since May 4 at the Eagle Square, Abuja.”

He said the rehearsal involved firing of the traditional 21 gun salute. He stated that “the practice session for the 21 gun salute will take place on May 20 and May 25, and on the inauguration day, May 29. “The public is hereby notified, especially those living within Asokoro area of Abuja and its environ not to panic at the sound of simulated firing of military weapons during the dates.”
