Fire Guts Memorial Hospital Quarters In PH

The management and staff of Braithwaite Memorial Hospital in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital have expressed concern over the fire incident that occurred at the doctors quarters on Monday.

The fire which started at about 3pm damaged the top floor of the 2-storey building.

Although the cause of the fire outbreak remains unknown, the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has assured the management of the hospital of the state government’s intention to rebuild the affected quarters.

A panel of inquiry has also been set up by the Ministry of Health to ascertain the cause of the incident. Eyewitnesses said that no life was lost in the inferno but property worth thousands of naira were destroyed.

VP inaugurates 5 ultra modern rail coaches in Benue

Vice President Namadi Sambo will on Friday in Makurdi, inaugurate five ultra modern 68-seater passenger coaches, delivered to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) by a Chinese firm.

NRC’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Mr Akinwoye Abdulrauf, told Newsmen on Thursday in Makurdi that the inauguration would also signal the beginning of operations of the Makurdi/PortHarcourt intercity passenger service.

He assured transporters that the corporation was committed to the provision of high tech rail services in the country. The vice president will also commission the newly-acquired two 16-seater air-conditioned rail buses and 18 five-seater motorised trolleys. Abdulraouf assured that the facilities would be properly serviced and maintained to ease transportation problems in the country.

He said the delivery of the coaches was accompanied by relevant spare parts to avoid intermittent service failure. He said the Nigerian technical crew, charged with the maintenance of the facilities, was adequately trained to ensure continued service delivery.
