Panic As Soldiers Begin Operation Stop & Search On Niger Bridge

Fierce military men of “Operation Python Dance” recently launched by the Nigerian Army in the South East, on Thursday, combed the surroundings of the River Niger Head Bridge in Asaba, Delta State, leaving motorists in fear of the unknown while they disciplined those who refused to take orders.

The soldiers heavily armed, descended on motorists who failed to obey their rules of “Stop and Search” before moving as some of them regarded as deviant drivers were put on frog jump for several minutes before they were let off the hook.

Expectedly, the soldiers’ presence caused serious traffic gridlock with commercial motorists/ passengers, including privately owned vehicles traveling to the Eastern states forced to queue for long.

But the Delta State Police Command in a swift reaction through the Deputy Police Commissioner in-charge of Operations, Mr. Undie Adie, allayed fears of the unknown, saying that the presence of the soldiers would collaborate with the personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), including the police, to ensure free flow of traffic and crime free period ahead of the Christmas/ New Year celebrations

His words: “There is no cause for alarm, we the police will collaborate with FRSC, the military to ensure hitch free crimes, and free flow of traffic ahead of the Christmas/New Year seasons.” Investigation revealed that miscreants, including pick pockets who used to have their field days of activities around the head bridge have disappeared into the thin air while the road-side traders, many of who allegedly sell Indian hemp to trailer drivers, have moved into Asaba town to avoid the wrath of the soldiers, who only understand Hausa language and orders from their bosses. One of the soldiers, Musa Mohammed, who spoke to our reporter, said: “Oga we dey here to protect lives and property, we don’t want any miscreants around the head bridge, and we will discipline more of the motorists who will not obey us.”

But a human right activist, Emeka Okonta, told our reporter that the soldiers “stop and search” on major road to the South East was creating hardship for the people even before the Christmas/ New Year periods. He noted that the gridlock has also brought untold sufferings and waste of several hours, adding that Onitsha Head Bridge is the only route to the South East states.

JSS III dropout impersonates doctor, performs operation, kills mum, baby.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 32-year-old Nonlonfun Celestine, a Junior Secondary School dropout for allegedly parading himself as medical doctor.

The suspect was paraded on Monday in Lagos by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.

The father of two met his waterloo when he conducted a surgery on a pregnant woman who died alongside her baby.

The family of the deceased, who were angered by the death of their daughter and grandchild, wrote a petition to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba to investigate the sudden death of the woman and her child.

They said they suspected foul play.

When police operatives stormed the clinic, it was discovered that the suspect, who hails from Badagry in Lagos State, had been parading himself as a medical doctor with fake certificates.

Investigations revealed that the University of Ibadan Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery certificate, certificate of annual practicing license from the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria and the Certificate of Registration of Business from the Corporate Affairs Commission, with which he had registered his hospital, were all fake.

Celestine said he was enrolled in an auxiliary nursing school in Benin Republic before returning to Nigeria.

Celestine said: “I am from Lagos State but my mother is from Benin Republic. I lived with my mother for over 18 years over there and it was in the country I graduated with a certificate of nursing and returned to join my father in Nigeria in 2004. I started selling drugs at Badagry but later moved to Tomaro in Apapa area where I started a clinic and taking care of the sick within the community.

“The pregnant woman was brought to the clinic by her husband and her brother at about 4am on November, 12. She was convulsing seriously. I administered first aid treatment but she didn’t get better. About four hours later, I called her husband to take her to another hospital for proper medical assistance, but he begged me to continue trying my best because he didn’t have enough money to take her.

“He gave me N8,000 to continue with the treatment and left and came back at about 8pm. I carried out a surgery on the woman and she gave birth to a baby boy who died almost immediately he was delivered?

“Two hours after, the mother also died. I called the husband who was at the waiting room and gave him the news. He was bitter about it. He however came with his family member to take her remains and the dead baby for burial.

“I learnt the woman was buried the following day. I was surprised when some men came to my clinic to look for me. When I stepped out of my office to see who the person was, it was then I discovered they were police officers.

“The policemen then told me they had received a petition about my illegal operation of a hospital in the area by the community leaders and I was arrested.

“unfortunately for me, when I was about taking money from my drawer to bribe the policemen, my fake medical certificate fell off and the policemen picked it up and asked where I got it from and I told them it wasn’t original that I paid to get it from a friend when I wanted to register my clinic.

“I presented my nursing certificate to the Corporate Affairs Commission for registration of my clinic but they turned it down. So I had to pay N35,000 to a friend to get the fake certificates. I did not kill woman and the baby intentionally.”

Owoseni stated that the suspect would be charged to court after completion of investigation.

Robbery Gang Leader Confesses How He Consults Fetish Tortoise Before Operation

A suspected leader of a notorious armed robbery gang, Nasim Aliu has confessed that he got his power from a magical tortoise.

Aliu was arrested with the fetish tortoise by the operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Kogi State police command after several months of trailing his movements.

Aliu who hails from Agheva Obehira in Okehi Local Government Area of the state said he had operated for more than 12 times with the magical tortoise but expressed surprise how the operatives of SARS arrested him cheaply.

He said, “Yes, I am a leader of a robbery gang which robbed on major highways in Kogi and Edo States, we had operated for more than 12 times successfully without being caught and the success of these robberies was as a result of the protection of this tortoise.

“Anytime I wanted to go for robbery operation, I would consult the tortoise who will tell me whether the robbery would be successful or not. After saying some incantation to it, the tortoise would speak and tell me to go or not to go.

“In serious operation, I would hang the tortoise on my chest, covering it with my shirt and anytime I did that ,it helped to protect me from bullets. No enemy’s bullets can hit me any time I hang it on my chest.”

Aliu who looked ruffled, touched the tortoise in the presence of our correspondent and retorted, “but you my great magical tortoise, you failed to tell me that the police were around the corner of my house, you failed to speak and you failed to give your usual signs.” He looked up and said: “It is now that I believe this adage ‘every day for the thief, one day for the owner.”

Speaking on the arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu said Aliu and his gang members had been terrorising innocent motorists for a long time, saying they specialized in robbing along Lokoja/ Okene, and Okene/Auchi/ Benin high ways.

Lump Found On Woman’s Ovary Turned Out To Be Her 10cm-Long Unborn Twin

A logistics officer and a mother-of- 2 was horrified to discover a seemingly harmless lump on her ovary was in fact the decades old remains of her unborn ‘twin’.

Jenny Kavanagh, 45, made the grim discovery after she went to the doctors to have a contraceptive coil implanted and medics insisted on an ultrasound of her ovaries due to her age.
Scans revealed a 10cm mass growing in her left ovary and concerned medics warned it could rupture and kill her at any moment.
Surgeons told her it was an undeveloped unborn twin which had grown inside her from birth – complete with face, an eye, tooth, and long black hair.
She said:

‘I feel very lucky that they found it and removed it before it killed me.

‘I try not to think of it too much because I don’t want to feel sad about it.

‘If I’m honest, I did feel sad when I first saw it, because of the size and weight of it, it had already been likened to a baby.

‘But I try not to feel sad about it. I try to remember that it had no heart and no brain.

‘And that it would have almost certainly killed me if they hadn’t found it and removed it.

‘But in one sense there was grief, mixed with happiness.

‘It was like a baby, but I was still glad it was out of me.’

Ms Kavanagh moved to Cyprus in 2005 with her then-husband, to escape the ‘rat race’.
She said she has always avoided doctors and has never visited a gynecologist, but had no problems with either of her pregnancies.
But when she started to have heavy periods she worried it might be due to a coil she had fitted 15 years ago and went to get a new one.
The consultant scanned her abdomen and while her right ovary was totally normal, the one on the left side had a 10cm dark mass, in May this year.
Her doctor assured her it was unlikely to be a cancerous tumour – and probably a teratoma or cyst – but she said she had ‘thought the worst’.
She said: ‘He advised me it would have to come out regardless. If it twisted or ruptured it could kill me.’
After tests proved inconclusive, 11 days later she underwent a three-hour operation to remove the mass at The Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus.
Doctors agreed to take a photo of the mass on her phone and showed her it when she came around, explaining it was a mass of cells which had been inside her since birth.

Chadian Army Kills Over 100 Militants In Anti-Boko Haram Operation

At least 100 jihadist fighters have been killed in an operation against Boko Haram Islamists holed up on the islands of Lake Chad, the Chadian army said in a statement Friday.

“117 terrorists have been killed, two Chadian soldiers died and two others were wounded” in the operation against the Nigeria-based movement, which began two weeks ago, army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermendoa Agouna said.

“For two weeks, Boko Haram terrorists have been trying to infiltrate our islands on Lake Chad to varry out attacks on peaceful citizens,” Azem said, adding that military operations were ongoing.

Lake Chad is a strategic region where the borders of Chad and northeast Nigeria converge with those of Cameroon and Niger, further north.

Boko Haram has carried out raids and suicide bombings in all four countries, which have formed a military alliance along with Benin to tackle the movement.

“Our armed forces and security forces have launched a vast offensive to dig out and neutralise these terrorists on these islands,” Azem said.

“Several boats have been destroyed and several weapons of different calibres have been recovered,” added the colonel, who specified that the operation had notably targeted the island villages of Koungya, Merikouta, Choua and Blarigui.

“The sweep continues and the definitive toll will be released later,” the spokesman said.
