35 entrepreneurs share Japheth Omojuwa’s N2.7 million BSF grant.

Nigeria’s biggest social media influencer and  entrepreneur, Japheth Omojuwa’s Businesses Support Fund has raised N2.7 million for 35 entrepreneurs in Nigeria and according to beneficiaries; they have started to receive the grants since the weekend.

According to a spokesperson for the initiative, who spoke with Entrepreneurship+ at the weekend, in what started as a personal gesture by Omojuwa to support 10 small business owners with N500,000, the initiative has been scaled up to N2.7 million, in which more than 70 per cent of the winners were women.

The 35 winners are small businesses were among thousands which responded to Omojuwa’s call to apply for funding, announced through his personal Twitter account on December 31, 2016.

Since the call, which stipulated that 10 small business could be helped with N500,000, the initiative, within a week, raised up to N2.7 million, to which 35 small business owners were beneficiaries.

According to the spokesperson, access to funding, being one of the major challenges confronting small business owners in Nigeria, prompted Omojuwa to support small businesses.

With the second batch of the funding slated to come up in mid-2017, a N5 million target, the spokesperson said Omojuwa is confident that more entrepreneurs in the country would have access to funding as “a lot of people have shown interest in donating to the project and some commitments have been made for the next batch in June/July.

“Personally Omojuwa is committed to giving N500,000 every six months to keep the project running. The hope also is that some of the businesses supported now will be able to support others in the nearest future.”

Omojuwa, on his own, said he’s hopeful that the initiative would revolutionise credit access for small businesses in Nigeria.

“If we have enough businesses thriving, there will be less of these. Also he was impressed by the number of young people using Twitter to promote their businesses instead of waiting for government to give them jobs,” Omojuwa said.

Girl Lead Hub Chats With Japheth Omojuwa

On Friday September 16, 2016, we invited Mr. J.J. Omojuwa to our WhatsApp chat room where we discussed the use of social media to enhance our #PledgeforGirls campaign.

Mr. Omojuwa introduced himself to us and told us a little about what he does; which held a lot of interest for me as I also enjoy writing. He told us about the positive energy he felt for the principles of agriculture. Then we got down to the business of learning more about effective social media campaigns. He gave us tips on running a successful social media campaign; He said to write a fact-based emotional story that is strong enough to touch the hearts of people, then get that published with the hashtag of the campaign in the headline. After writing the story, the next step is to get as many blogs as possible to publish the appeal for funding.

We asked him about challenges he may have encountered with leading similar campaigns, and he noted that top on the list is “people looking to make it look like you are trying to scam others”. Mr Omojuwa also educated us on the good and bad of social media, making it clear that we “must choose what we want out of it. Social media gives me platforms all over the world, helps me make quite a lot of money and keeps me connected with friends all over the world. But it destroys people too. Choose what you make out of it but do your best not to play yourself.”

On best practice for running a good blog Mr Omojuwa had this to say: “Just look to yourself and find out about your strengths and interests. Read a lot. Read like if you don’t, you will go to hell. Read. Study. Learn and never stop learning about your interests. When you do that constantly it will show in your tweets and your blogs. People are attracted to who you are and that is a function of your character and what you know.”

Our awe-inspiring chat came to a close with Mr Omojuwa’s surprise donation of FIFTY-THOUSAND NAIRA to our campaign; which had the curator of the Girl Lead Hub in tears (sincerely speaking!).

On behalf of the Girl Lead Hub and every girl who benefits from this, I would personally like to thank Mr. Omojuwa for his donation, for changing my life and theirs.

President To Sell Off Some Aircrafts In Presidential Fleet

This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to sell of some aircraft which make up the presidential fleet.t

This was disclosed by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

Shehu said via Twitter on September 8

“There is a govt committee already in place, working to reduce the number of aircraft in the presidential fleet,”

The presidential aide made the comment after being challenged by Omojuwa.com Chief strategist Japheth Omojuwa following the launch of Buhari’s “Change Begins With Me” campaign.

During the launch, Buhari urged Nigerians to start changing their bad habits before expecting change of the government.

Omojuwa however urged the president to reduce the presidential fleet before expecting Nigerians to change.

“Change begins with selling the presidential jets.

ONLY a genuinely rich country should think of having up to 3. We have about 10 jets,” he tweeted.t1

Meanwhile, civic organization, BudgIT has also called on Buhari to lead change in the country by setting a good example for citizens to follow.

JJ, Omojuwa: An Exposé, Critics versus Wailing Wailers

I felt led to drop this note against the fact that some Nigerians, especially on social media, just do not get it.

My criticisms of President Buhari and his administration are often met with statements like, “come and collect your Wailers form,” or “Wailers form has finished,” or “welcome our new wailer” or “Aso Rock has delayed your alert” amongst other predictable inanities. It has become necessary to define the context of some of the terms in the subject matter.

It is the right and responsibility of every citizen to hold the government accountable, this right does not suffer any limitation based on whether you voted for the government in power or not, it is your fundamental human right. Citizens who genuinely care about their country never fail to do same. Holding government accountable includes calling out public officers when they are wrong, continually demanding for transparency and accountability in the running of government and putting the government to task at all times. Take what the Bring Back Our Girls advocacy group are doing for instance, that is a classic way to hold your government accountable. You demand for your rights and that of others until at times you are seen as a pest.

Being a government critic is being a government critic irrespective of who the head of government is. When the government gets it wrong, it is your responsibility as a citizen to call them out. As usual, the so called Wailing Wailers decided to go petty yesterday after I called out the Buhari government saying, “Change begins with selling the presidential jets. ONLY a genuinely rich country should think of having up to 3. We have about 10 jets.” Now, irrespective of who is president, Nigeria has no business owning and maintaining 10 jets for the presidency. This particular statement came on the heels of the “Change-Begins-With-Me” campaign launched by the Buhari administration. An unnecessary campaign in my opinion and the reason for this position has since been treated on my @Omojuwa twitter timeline. No, criticizing the government does not make me a wailer, it makes me a normal citizen.

I do not know what was going through Mr. Femi Adesina’s head when he called out a group as “wailing wailers” but I do not know that its definition cannot wrap up everyone who rises in criticism against president Buhari. The reason is simple and intuitive enough. If you spent five years deifying and praising a largely corrupt and clueless Goodluck Jonathan administration, an administration whose high point was the fact that it left in peace when it got voted out by the Nigerian people, how do you justify your intentions on the altar of national interest when you suddenly realize just months into a new administration you were already calling for miracles, the miracles you did not expect with record breaking oil prices?

A wailing wailer is different from a regular critic in that the regular critic sees something wrong and points it out, he or she even gets to point out ideas to make change happen and the position of the regular critic does not change just because the head of government has changed. The wailing wailer is one who does not care about anything other than to show that Nigerians were wrong to have voted Goodluck Jonathan out. Period. For them, it is about proving a point; you all were wrong to have voted Jonathan out. If you regularly see those who voted Buhari often posting messages like, “even though Buhari is not impressing me, I do not regret voting Jonathan out,” that is because these wailing wailers wake up dialy reminding people they should never have sacked Goodluck Jonathan. For them, it is about nothing but Goodluck Jonathan.

This is why all of us cannot be wailers. Like I tweeted in July after another round of criticisms against the Buhari administration and the so called wailers came with their, “oya come and take form” pettiness again, “I am NOT a Wailer. I do not criticise govt because I hate those who run it or because of appointment, I do it because government needs it.”

I hope the so called wailing wailers continue to have the strength to wail against Buhari – it hurts to lose power but they should focus on that and not look to ascribe the I-lost-so-I-am-crying mentality to others who are just about our country’s collective progress. In the end, whether you wail or you criticize just because you care about your country, every administration needs to be called out when it gets things wrong. You cannot excuse maladministration for 5 years, praise a government globally renowned for corruption over the same period, suddenly find the eyes to see that government can actually be wrong after a government you worshipped got voted out and expect that your wailing against the new government and my criticism of the new government should have us get called the same name. Nah, I am not a wailing wailer and one million criticisms against this government or any other one after it will not make me one, because I am not crying over spilled milk, I just want a better country, irrespective of who is president.

Christopher Kolade, Oby Ezekwesili, Tunde Bakare & Audu Maikori Lead Intergenerational Dialogue As EiE Celebrates 5th Anniversary

“Of all the institutions of a democratic society, there’s none as formidable as an awakened and conscious citizenry.”

Shehu Sani

March 16th marked the 5th anniversary of the historic 2010 protest to the National Assembly led by young Nigerians – students, entrepreneurs, professionals & celebrities – to demand compliance with the rule of law.
At the time, President Yar’Adua was sick and had been out of the country for months and a group of people were bent on preventing then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan from becoming Acting President. In addition, the killings in Jos were at an all-time high, there was fuel scarcity and young people had just had enough!
After the Abuja protest, a Lagos protest followed on April 10th and the organisers decided to start an organisation that would focus on empowering young Nigerians to participate in the governance process starting with elections. That was the birth of Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE Nigeria).
On Monday, April 27th, EiE will mark its 5th anniversary with an Intergenerational Dialogue on Citizens & Governance in Nigeria. The theme – Building the Office of the Citizen – is taken from the teachings of Oby Ezekwesili that the ‘Office of the Citizen’ is the highest office in the land. The decision to focus on this is to reemphasize the power of citizens and EiE’s commitment to placing Nigerians at the center of governance.
Joining Mrs Ezekwesili will be Dr Christopher Kolade giving the keynote address and interventions by 6 influential individuals sharing how citizens can engage governance from their sector – Chude Jideonwo (Media), Tunde Bakare (Faith-based institutions), Idayat Hassan (Civil society organisations), Jeffery Hawkins (Diplomatic community), Audu Maikori (Government), Bolaji Owasanoye (Academia).
Kadaria Ahmed, just off her stint as an Elections 2015 consultant for Channels Television will moderate the conversation. Pita will share his gift of music and one of Nigeria’s leading comedians, Gbenga Adeyinka, will MC the evening.
The dialogue will take place at the Metropolitan Club in Victoria Island, Lagos from 4:30-7:30 pm and it is open to the public.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Don Jazzy & Omojuwa Collabo? (SEE PHOTO)

Head of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty (SMD), Don Jazzy, shared a photo on his Instagram account and it has got us thinking whether Omojuwa is dumping blogging for music.

Don Jazzy however, cleared our doubts via his caption, which does not indicate or suggest any form of musical collabo. He simply said they were sharing knowledge and rubbing minds.
