Since the emergence of the internet and social media, information gathering and dissemination has been done with a lot of ease across different platforms. Individuals, organizations and other multinationals have continued to use the platform for numerous purposes in line with achieving set targets.
However, with the rapid growth of social media and its usage among masses, such is also the increase in the rate of ills that is done via the platform. The platform has been used in propagating wrong and unverifiable claims as well as committing atrocities that is damaging to the images of persons and brands who fall victim.
Such is the case of Zenrise Marketers located at 1, Olabisi Close, Mende in the Maryland axis of Lagos. The group, an affiliate of popular multi-level marketing firm, GNLD, were in a viral WhatsApp message, alleged to be involved kidnapping and other shoddy deals which they perpetrate in the building they occupy on Olabisi Close.
According to the viral message which surfaced on Monday, February 27, 2017, the user got a job invite after applying on a job vacancy site. To the user’s amazement, the job posters were ritualists who were only searching for the next victim.
However, in debunking the claims, the de-facto Councilor in the community, Hon. Abdul Adelekan told InsideMainland that “I was overwhelmed when I got the post about a company or group of persons purportedly into ritual activities on Olabisi Close which is where I reside. The occupants of the building are into legitimate network business and the question I asked was, how would such happen in a busy environment I have lived all my life?”
“At first, the residents in the community registered their fears when the lady (Cynthia Audu, CEO of Zenrise) moved in early 2016. This is because the number of people who throng the building increased few weeks after she moved into the apartment. After we asked questions, we then realized the company is an affiliate of GNLD and into multi-level marketing. So those who come there daily are the job seekers who they have invited for an interview,” he added.
