Okorocha Asks Corps Members To Lead ‘Buy Made In Nigeria’ Campaign.

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to join the campaign for patronage of Made in Nigeria goods in order to grow and develop locally made products to address present economic challenges.

The governor’s message was conveyed by the Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, to the corps members during the official opening of the Orientation Course for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps members deployed to Imo State.

Mr Madumere stressed that buying Made in Nigeria products would help galvanise Nigerian economy and put it on the part of growth and sustainable development.

The nation’s economy is currently in recession.

“The initiative will not only encourage Nigerian investors but will spur other Nigerians to put to work their ingenuity in bringing solutions to Nigerian myriad problems since there will be a guaranteed market thereby saving foreign exchange,” he stressed.

The deputy governor, however, urged the corps members to partner with the Imo State government in its Back to Land Policy, which is one of the State government’s effort to boosting agricultural activities and agro-allied business in the State.

He reminded the corps members deployed to Imo State of the essence of NYSC scheme, which remains unity, love, patriotism and spirit of brotherhood.

Mr Madumere further assured the corps members that the Okorocha-led administration in the state was committed to ensuring that the corps members were comfortable throughout their service year.

Earlier in his address, the State Coordinator of the NYSC scheme in Imo State, Mr Olugbodi James, averred that the scheme placed high premium on the orientation course since it was a prelude to other major programmes lined up for a given service year.

He highlighted that it was organised to promote discipline, encourage positive attitude and introduce them to available skills and ventures through noble skills acquisition, entrepreneurial development.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Okorocha for numerous projects he had carried out for the scheme, informing the corps members that the governor had promised to build extra two structures as requested by the scheme.

22nd Nigerian Economic Summit Opens with “Made in Nigeria”.

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group has called for concerted and all round effort from relevant stakeholders,  for the Nation’s goal of self-sufficiency to be realised.

The Chairman, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) Board Committee, Adedoyin Salami, made the call on Monday in Abuja at the opening of the 22nd edition of the Nigeria Economic Summit (NES 22).

If made-in-Nigeria must succeed, it should not be the challenge of the federal government alone. All the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital territory (FCT) must have a role to play,”

The NES Board Chairman, who lamented that the country’s current economic indices were far from ideal, stressed the need to embrace the imperatives of local competitiveness and productiveness, as well as ability to create and add value to the economy.

Commenting on the obvious change in the Oil sector, Salami advised on a deliberate move away from overdependence on oil. “The dynamics of oil has changed, with the production of shale oil. The cost of producing shale oil imposes a cap on oil prices, with 72 countries in the world potentially capable of producing shale oil, with Nigeria’s key customers, United States and China already producing shale oil or looking for alternatives to our oil,” he said.

He maintained that Nigeria would overcome the domestic economic challenges if the country embraces a deliberate move away from oil dependence in line with a policy framework to articulate national development and attainment goals.

Salami also warned that failure to make the private sector the engine of growth and development would not make the country attractive to investors and called on government to encourage and support the private sector to contribute to the economy.

Also speaking at the event, The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, said the current administration has acknowledged the private sector as the anchor of the country’s economic growth, assuring that government would continue to encourage and support them to grow in a competitive environment.

As a Government we have taken steps to encourage our officials to buy made in Nigeria products. We have also been working with the private Sector and other related stakeholders to encourage more consumption of Made in Nigeria goods and services. We believe that with more patronage, Nigerian producers will be encouraged to improve on quality and create jobs for our teeming youth.” He added.

President Muhammadu Buhari who declared the summit open called on participants to ensure that they reach conclusions and come up with resolutions that will support government’s effort to diversify the economy in the face of challenges posed by dwindling global oil prices.

Made in Nigeria lies at the heart of so many efforts we are making to lead us through this troubled times and lay a firm foundation for the future,” President Buhari said.

The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Made In Nigeria’ with organisers and participants looking to come up with strategies that will spur economic growth through heightened patronage of made in Nigeria goods and services
On Day two, the Summit will continue with parallel sessions on the ICT, Small and Medium Enterprises, Micro Credit, services and finance.

We’ll Make Nigerians Buy Made-In-Nigeria Products – FG

The Federal Government says it intends to make Nigerians look inwards by buying products, especially vehicles made in the country.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, said this when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja. Onu explained that it was the only way to make Nigeria a producer country and to encourage local manufacturers to produce and grow the economy.

“We already have made in Nigeria car.

“We want to champion the idea of Nigerians looking inward and thinking Nigeria promoting made in Nigeria products to encourage our own local manufacturers.

“It is very important. That is the only way that we can ever become a producer nation.

“We cannot continue to be a consumer nation alone; it wouldn’t help us.

“We must help our own local producers.

“We must all start thinking of how we can do so.

“It shouldn’t be only the automobiles; it should be on all products. “

The minister assured Nigerians that the government would ensure that vehicle manufacturers in the country maintained the minimum standard obtainable anywhere in the world.

Onu, however, said the time for the proposed launching of a made-in-Nigeria satellite, earlier planned for 2018, might be extended due to logistic issues.

According to him, space science and technology is a huge asset that a country such as Nigeria should take advantage of.

“Space science and technology has direct impact on agriculture, environment, and health.

“Satellite can help you in education regarding distance learning; also in defence.

“If you have the right satellite to monitor what is happening in areas where there is insurgency, you can now go exactly there and get what you want.

“It is very important to our economy; we just have to ensure that we are not excluded from that,“ he said.

Melaye Asks Senators To Patronise Made In Nigeria Girls

The debate on the motion on the need to patronise made in Nigeria goods took a new dimension when Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi Central) asked his colleagues to patronise made in Nigeria girls.

Melaye had while contributing to the motion sponsored by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South) said the campaign should not be limited to goods alone.

He later said: “ With due apology to my Comrade Governor of Edo State, we must start to campaign for made in Nigeria girls. It is time for my colleagues to start patronising made in Nigeria women.”

It was after he stated this that the Senate President Bukola Saraki interrupted and said that motion was clear enough.

Earlier while moving the motion, Abaribe said until Nigeria adopted a “pro-made in Nigeria” procurement policy, made in Nigeria would continue to lag behind both in competition and acceptability.
