Another PDP lawmaker, Emmanuel Ukoetu defects to APC

Barely 24 hours after Senator Andy Uba formally defected to the All progressives Congress, APC, another House of Representatives member, Emmanuel Ukoetu (Akwa Ibom) has decamped from the PDP to joined the ruling party.

Hon, Ukoetu cited irreconcilable differences between the factions of Ali Modu Sheriff ad the Makarfi team as the reason for his defection.

Kuwaiti Lawmaker Loses Consciousness During Parliament Session & Dies

Kuwaiti lawmaker Nabeel Al Fadhl died this morning, December 22, as he was taking part in the regular parliament session. Al Fadhl reportedly lost his consciousness inside the hall where the lawmakers were holding the session. (lawmakers pictured around him after he collapsed.).

The session was suspended as a medical team rushed to provide necessary assistance. A lawmaker, Khalil Abdullah, placed a flag of Kuwait on Al Fadhl’s seat following the announcement of his death.

Court Orders N’Assembly To Disclose Allowance Paid To Lawmakers

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the National Assembly to disclose financial details of its highly secretive constituency allowances, in a landmark judgment that may unearth the true scale of allowances earned by Nigerian lawmakers.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Abdu Kafarati in a Freedom of Information suit, filed against the National Assembly by a nongovernmental organization, the Legal Defence and Assistance Project, LEDAP.

Details of the judgment shows the court directed the Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, to declare all budgetary allocations to members of the National Assembly for Constituency Projects between 2011 and 2013.

Adamawa Lawmakers Move to Impeach Fintiri

There was unease at the Adamawa state House of Assembly complex, Yola, during Monday’s plenary as the speaker, Ahmadu Fintiri, scuttled an attempt by a group of lawmakers to impeach him.

Mr. Fintiri, who had spearheaded the impeachment of the former state Governor, Murtala Nyako, has been at daggers-drawn with the state governor, James Ngilari, and some lawmakers who see him as a traitor that failed to secure return tickets for them during the controversial primaries in Abuja.
