Ohanaeze Demands Apology From Keyamo Over Buhari’s Appointment Statement

The youth wing of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has demanded an unconditional apology from human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo, for dismissing the outrage by Ndigbo over their exclusion in federal appointments as “mere noise.”

Keyamo, had while defending President Muhammadu Buhari against the allegations of deliberate exclusion of the South-East in his political appointments so far, said those criticising the President “are political job seekers.”

The lawyer said the Ndigbo were the greatest beneficiaries of Buhari’s appointments so far, and had no justification to allege marginalisation.

His words: “We, the elite, should not be moved by this noise and selfish agenda. Imagine a whole ethnic group campaigning for a position! Initially, they said Chief of Staff, then Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“Now, with all the noise they have been making since May 29, imagine if one person from that region is appointed to that position. That person will then see himself as a champion of his ethnic group and his kinsmen will descend on that office in the area of contracts and gifts.”

The group described Keyamo as “a desperate political sycophant who sees insulting the Ndigbo as the fastest way to get the attention of Buhari for consideration for a political appointment.”

A statement by the National President of the Ohanaeze Youth Congress, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said Keyamo only resorted to attacking the Ndigbo for cheap public notice.

The statement issued on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State, regretted that “the likes of Keyamo will shamelessly deny obvious truths for selfish interest and political patronage.”

The statement read in part, “Ordinarily, we would not like to take issues with the likes of Keyamo as doing so will dignify him but we only want to warn him against the dangers of fighting a whole tribe.

“It is a pity that a lawyer like Keyamo, who should know better, has decided to see nothing wrong with the deliberate exclusion of a whole geopolitical zone from the over 30 key political appointments so far made by Buhari since he came on board.”

The OYC warned Keyamo to tread with caution over his remarks on issues affecting the Igbo nation.

Probe Alison-Madueke, NNPC, Keyamo Tells National Assembly

Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has asked the National assembly to probe the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and top officials of the corporation for “massive looting of state resources in collusion with some local companies in the oil and gas sector”.

Mr. Keyamo said NNPC’s Managing Director, Tony Moneke; the Executive Director, Commercial, PPMC, Frank Amejo; Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division, Gbenga Komolafe;  Former Managing Director of NPDC, and later NNPC Group Executive Director, E & P, Abiye Membere should all be probed.

The lawyer urged the legislators to beam their search light on the crude Oil Swap deals, an arrangement whereby about fifty percent (50%) of the nation’s daily quota of crude oil meant for domestic refining and consumption are given to some local companies in the oil and gas sector which then sell the products in the international market and thereafter import petroleum products, including derivatives or by-products on behalf of the NNPC and PPMC for sale and distribution in the country.

“The Offshore Processing Agreements (OPAs) involved in the allocation of the daily domestic quota of crude oil to some local companies in the oil and gas sector; the colossal fraud in both programmes have reportedly started and heightened in recent years,” he said. “The frauds occur when far less quantity of petroleum products, by-products and derivatives are imported into the country by the local companies in exchange for the crude oil allocated to them by the NNPC.”

The staggering shortfalls in the imported products are done with the active connivance, collusion and knowledge of the officials of the NNPC,” Mr. Keyamo said.

Orubebe’s Action Can Lead To War In Nigeria – Keyamo

Eminent lawyer has condemned the drama staged by a former Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe at the collation centre of the presidential election in Abuja to disrupt the proceeding.

Reacting to this ugly action, Lagos based lawyer, Festus Keyamo condemned the show of shame saying Orubebe’s action is capable of plunging Nigeria into a civil war if not checked.

“Orubebe’s action is very disgraceful. Secondly, it threatens the unity of this country. It was this same attitude that led to the civil war in Cote di’voire when Gbagbo’s agent entered the collation centre and tore the results that were to be announced.”

Keyamo who likened Orubebe’s action to what happened in Cote d’ivoire when agents of a former president Laurent Gbagbo tore the election result, said he deserved to the disciplined.

“That was what led Cote divoire to civil war that killed more than 30,000 people in that country. Orubebe should understand that his action is capable of threatening the unity and peace of this country. It is an action that we totally condemn,” Keyamo added.
