VVF centre cures 175 patients in Kebbi State.

The Kebbi Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) center cured 175 patients in 2016, Dr. Abubakar Dakingari, the Medical Director of the centre said.

Dakingari told on Monday in Birnin Kebbi said that the treatment was 90 percent successful and that most patients were affected following prolonged labour.

He, however, said some others became affected after genital mutilation.

He added that the center offered treatment freely to patients from within and outside the country, stressing that “we have patients from Benin and Niger Republics, as well as some states in the country.

“We have the best VVF treatment center in the country; we offer free drugs and feeding to patients.

The medical director said many women affected by the condition were from remote villages that lacked roads and functional healthcare facilities.

He, however, noted that the center had done series of awareness to educate the people about the ailment, especially among teenage girls giving birth for the first time.

“We embarked on community mobilization awareness; the awareness included religious and traditional leaders.

“It has greatly helped in reducing new cases in the both the urban and rural communities.”

He said the center was supported by USAID and Non-governmental Organisations (NGO).

“We received hospital equipment, theatre beds, surgical tools, family planning items and examination lamps from USAID as donation.

The surgeon said the center had assisted in the delivery of 37 women who were treated for fistula ailment.

“Because of the nature of their condition after undergoing treatment, we instruct them to come when their expected date of delivery is due in order to assist them to have a smooth delivery,” he said.

He then urged well-to-do individuals, stakeholders and philanthropists to provide additional support to the centre.

Farmers in Zagga district of Bagudo Local Government Area in Kebbi State have decried the persistent destruction of their farm produce by cattle breeders.

Alh Gazali Abubakar, the District Chairman of the All Farmers Association (AFAN) in the area, disclosed this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zagga village.

He lamented the instances of cattle breeders engaged in midnight grazing on their farmlands, adding that ”they sent their cattle to graze over our farmlands when we went to bed.

He said that many farmers in the area had lost significant quantity of farmland and produce, stressing that this has discouraged some AFAN members from partaking in agriculture.

Alhaji Mainasara Zagga, the District Head of Zagga, confirmed the incidences to NAN, saying that the matter has been reported to the police.

He called on the State Government to revive cattle routes with a view to safeguarding the farmers as well as preventing unnecessary clash between the farmers and the cattle breeders.

He also called on the affected farmers to exercise patience and caution as government is working towards handling the matter urgently.

Some of the affected farmers, Bello Umar and Aliyu Zagga, told NAN that they lost farm produce worth hundred of thousands of Naira as a result of the overnight grazing on their farmlands.

According to them, several complaint letters were submitted to authourities concerned but no action was taken to address the matter.

NAN reports that the farming communities in Kebbi have been enjoying relative peace with cattle breeders due to stringent measures put in place by them.

DPR seals 19 filling stations in Sokoto, Kebbi states for malpractices

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it has sealed 10 filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states for allegedly selling petrol above the pump price of N 145.

 

The Sokoto operations Controller of the Department, Mr Mohammed Makera, disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto on Tuesday.

 

Makera said 11 of the axed stations were in Sokoto State while eight were in Kebbi.

 

He said 18 of them were owned by independent marketers,while one was a major oil company.

 

Makera added that all the stations were allegedly selling petroleum at between N 148 and N 150.

 

He added that they were each fined N 100,000 per pump as well as placed on a two-week suspension.

 

Makera said officials of the department would ensure that the unsuspecting motorists were not cheated by the marketers.

 

The controller also assured that there were adequate supplies of petroleum products, urging motorists to desist from panic buying.

Kebbi Gets 7 More Commissioners

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, on Wednesday urged commissioners in the state to ensure discipline, prudence and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The governor said in Birnin Kebbi, after the swearing-in of seven new members of the state executive council, that they must also avoid sentiment in handling their responsibilities.

He said that henceforth, all appointments in the state civil service would be based on merit, in order to fast track the development of the state.

Bagudu stressed that the appointees must justify their selection by working selflessly to implement government policies targeted at ensuring the rapid development of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seven commissioners were sworn-in by Justice Ibrahim Kangiwa, on behalf of the state Chief Judge, Justice Bala Mairiga.

The commissioners are Umar Kambazza, Maigari Dakingari, Zailani Muhammad, Abubakar Besse, Muhammad Suleiman, Musa Kalgo and Garba Karaye.

NAN reports that eight commissioners were earlier sworn-in a month ago, thus bringing the total to 15 commissioners in the state.

The new commissioners are yet go be assigned portfolio.
