KWIRS Clamps Down on License Offenders, Impounds 200 Vehicles in 2 weeks.

Since the commencement of its Road Tax Enforcement Drive, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has impounded over 200 vehicles in two weeks.

The Vehicles were impounded for various offences ranging from expired vehicle particulars to lack of driver’s license by a collective enforcement team of KWIRS, Federal Road Safety Corps, Vehicles Inspection Officers, Nigeria Police and staffers of Kwara state Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA).

Speaking during the exercise on Wednesday along University Road, the Director of Enforcement and Legal Department, Dr. Isaac Gbenle said the enforcement has begun to yield in voluntary compliance.

According to him “a lot of people have seen that we mean business and they are working into our office to get the papers corrected and documented.

“we are on the road to ensure that the exercise continues and very soon we will move to the outskirts of the city and all the local government areas.

Gbenle explained that the Agency have covered most strategic areas within the metropolis like Asa-dam road, Government House, General-Sawmill, Flower-Garden axis, parts of Omo-Aran and Offa.

The Director advised road users to get their licenses updated and documented to avoid harassment on the road.

It would be recalled that KWIRS commenced tax enforcement on road, property, tenement, and Corporate Organizations on November 1st this year.

Police Arrest 18 Pipeline Vandals, Impound 2 Vessels, 20 Trucks

The Nigeria Police Force had a break through with  constant vandalization of pipelines, destruction of oil and gas infrastructure and the illegal dealing in Petroleum products in the country as they arrested 18 Pipeline Vandals, Impound 2 Vessels and  2o Trucks.

Parading eight of the suspects at the Force headquarters, yesterday, the Force PRO, DCP Don Awunah said “coordinated operations based on credible intelligence and assistance from the key players in the petroleum sector, the Anti-Pipeline Vandalization of the Nigeria Police Force arrested 18 suspects, impounded two vessels and twenty trucks loaded with stolen petroleum products as summarized below.”

He stated that in order to halt this trend of wanton destruction of lives and property in a critical sector of the economy, the IGP, Ibrahim Idris has reorganised and empowered the Anti-Pipeline Vandalisation Unit of the Force to decisively tackle these criminals and their collaborators.

Among the suspects arrested include Tumbiri Ezekiel (captain), Thomas Arimoro Azamosa  (Company’s Representative), Godwil Offeh  (Chief mate), Alfred Iwanefun (Engineer),   Emmanuel Uyoi (Deckhand), Godwin Tabiti (Electrician), Omokete Enengite (Engineer Cadet), Victor Onyenike   (Seaman),  Suleiman Ahmadu and William Okitikpo.

The 10 suspects and the exhibit, which include  Ellen Vessel, MB Opuda Vessel and  Eighteen Trucks; are in police custody in Lagos.

The FPRO noted that on November 1 through 3 2016 at about 0220hrs, when “a sustained surveillance and monitoring of Ellen vessel and crew members sailing from Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States water ways to Lagos State with illegally refined AGO (Diesel) on board was embarked upon by the IGP’s Task Force on Illegal Petroleum Bunkering and intercepted Ellen vessel at Satomen’s Jetty located at Amuwo Odofin in Mile 2 area of Lagos State where it had discharged the illegal refined AGO (Diesel)  into 18 Trucks, 33,000 liters each. The vessel, crew members, the eighteen Trucks and other suspects were promptly arrested and taken into custody by the IGP’s Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering.”

Other suspects included Harrison Chinedu, Mohammed Abdulkadir, Idris Bawa, Emmanuel Akighir, Suleiman Musa, Amechi Aduma, Ezechi Peter and Mamud Ibrahim.

They were all arrested in different parts of the country after they were trailed by the police monitoring team.

The FPRO noted that investigations into the cases are ongoing and the cases will soon be charged to court.
