Fire Guts NPC Headquarters In Abuja

A mid-day fire outbreak, yesterday, gutted  the headquarters of the National Population Commission (NPC), in Abuja.

The fire incident which was caused by a faulty air conditioner affected the training unit on the ground floor of the complex.

In a statement signed by Mr Simon Otene, director, public affairs, NPC, at the time of the fire outbreak, technical staff of the commission were undergoing in-house capacity building training.

He said some furniture items, office equipment and personal effects were lost in the fire incident.

Otene however commended the Fire Service Unit of the FCT for their quick intervention which brought the fire under control.

He said fortunately, there was no causality as all the staff were effectively evacuated from the building.

He added that the logistics and operational capacity of the commission to carry out its activities was not  affected by the incident as it remains poised to pursue its constitutional mandate.

Fire Guts Memorial Hospital Quarters In PH

The management and staff of Braithwaite Memorial Hospital in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital have expressed concern over the fire incident that occurred at the doctors quarters on Monday.

The fire which started at about 3pm damaged the top floor of the 2-storey building.

Although the cause of the fire outbreak remains unknown, the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has assured the management of the hospital of the state government’s intention to rebuild the affected quarters.

A panel of inquiry has also been set up by the Ministry of Health to ascertain the cause of the incident. Eyewitnesses said that no life was lost in the inferno but property worth thousands of naira were destroyed.
