Gunmen kill man, injure another in Plateau.

Gunmen have shot and killed a man and injured another at a drinking pool in Alheri, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

 

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Terna Tyopev, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Monday.

 

Mr. Tyopev said the victim who survived the attack with bullet wounds revealed the identities of the attackers to the police.

 

“Information was received on the night of Saturday 21st January 2017 that Ifeanyi Ozue and Chibuze Ogbukagu were shot in the stomach and neck respectively at Ximan Lounge, Alheri Zaria road Jos,” the police spokesman said

 

“One of the victims was later confirmed dead at Evangel Specialist Hospital Jos, where they were both rushed for medical attention. The corpse is deposited at the hospital morgue.”

 

Mr. Tyopev revealed that the injured victim was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

 

He said efforts were being made to bring the gunmen to justice.

JUST IN: Gunmen shoot Plateau commissioner dead, “kidnap” council chairman.

Suspected armed robbers have shot dead Sargwak Wazhi, a former commissioner who served in the administration of Jonah Jang in Plateau State.

The armed persons also injured the victim’s driver and whisked away a serving transition council chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, Nicholas Vongsing.

A witness told reporters on Friday that the incident occurred Thursday night along Mangu Barkinladi road.

Our source, a senior staff of Langtang South Local Government pleaded not to be named because was not authorised to speak on the incident. He, however, explained via telephone interview that the suspected robbers opened fire on the vehicle of the former commissioner, which had Mr. Vongsing as one of the passengers.

“The incident occurred last night (Thursday) at about 7:45 p.m. along Mangu/Barkinladi bypass. Honourable Nicholas Vongsing, our council chairman, was in the car with Honourable Sargwak Wazhi.

“The robbers shot at the car, killed Hon Sargwak Wazhi; his driver was also shot, but he didn’t die. When we arrived the scene, we didn’t see Honourable Nicholas Vongsing, the robbers had left with him.”

Our source explained further that “both Sargwak Wazhi and his driver were taken to the General hospital in Mangu, where he was confirmed dead.”

“This morning, the driver have been referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, for more medical attention.

“But, for Nicholas Vongsing, till now that I’m taking with you, none of us has heard from him, all of us are worried.”

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police in Plateau State, Terna Tyopev, said the command had not been briefed on the development, but would investigate it.

The victims were said to be returning from an official function held at the southern zone of the state, where more than 30 communities from six council areas agreed to end years of hostilities, which led to the death of hundreds of people and destroyed property worth millions.

The reconciliatory meeting attended by Governor Simon Lalong was organised by the Geneva, Switzerland-based Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, HD.

Gunmen Kill Chinese Miner, 1 Police, 2 Others In Nasarawa State

Some unidentified gunmen has killed one Chinese national, a police officer and two other workers of a mining company at Alongani village in Nasarawa Eggon local government area of Nasarawa state.

The State Police Command spokesman, DPS Kennedy Idirisu, who confirmed the killing, said that the victims were returning from their mining site in a company truck at about 4:00pm Monday before they were ambushed at Alongani village by the gunmen who shot at them from different directions.

Idirisu said that a Chinese, a police escort and two others workers were killed during the ambush while another Chinese national survived with bullet wound and currently being treated in the hospital.

Idrisu added that the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, had deployed officers and men of the command to the area to work in collaboration with other security agencies as well as the vigilante in order fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

He noted that the Commissioner of Police had visited the chairman of the Nasarawa Eggon local government area as well as the mining company office with the view to tackling the disturbing situation in the area.

Gunmen Attack Oil Facility, Kill Four NSCDC Officials

Gunmen have killed four Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps guarding a facility operated by the Nigerian subsidiary of Italian group Eni, local and security officials said Wednesday.

Four members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a paramilitary agency of the government, were killed on Monday at the installation at Omoku, near the oil hub of Port Harcourt,  they said.

They were shot dead by gunmen in military camouflage, they said.

“The (security) operatives had engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle on realising that the intruders were not military men,” state NSCDC spokesman Michael Oguntuase told AFP.

A community leader in Omoku who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident.

“Dressed in camouflage, they came in a speed boat at about 6:40pm on Monday, exchanged gunfire with the operatives, leading to the death of four,” he said.

He said an unspecified number of NSCDC personnel were wounded.

Officials at Agip, the local subsidiary of Eni, were not immediately available for comment. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Since the start of the year, several militant groups, Including the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), have bombed pipelines and facilities operated by oil companies, including Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Eni and state-run NNPC in the restive oil-producing south.

The attacks have slashed Nigeria’s oil output, hammering government revenue at a time of global low prices.

Nigeria is currently struggling to come out of a recession since August.

The attacks on oil infrastructure have continued despite government’s peace moves.

Gunmen abduct 2 wives of Nasarawa State commissioner.

Gunmen on Thursday night abducted the two wives of Nasarawa State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aliyu Tijani, from his residence in Nasarawa town.

 

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello confirmed the incident on Friday in Lafia in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

 

Mr. Sadiq-Bello said the police was on the trail of the kidnappers and would soon apprehend them.

 

“We are aware of the abduction and as we speak now, we have gotten information about their location and we are closing in on them,” he said.

 

When contacted on phone, Mr. Tijani said the family has not been contacted by the kidnappers.

 

“As I speak with you now, we do not know where my wives are being kept and no one has contacted us. We shall continue to pray for their freedom,” Mr. Tijani said.

 

Meanwhile, a witness who would not want to be mentioned said that the gunmen numbering about 10 stormed the house in Nasarawa town, at about 8 p.m.

 

He said the gunmen shot sporadically into the air before whisking away the women in their vehicles.

Unknown gunmen kidnap soldier in Cross River.

Unknown gunmen on Thursday kidnapped a soldier, Musa Lawal, attached to the 13th Brigade of the Nigerian Army while stepping out of a bank along Calabar Road, Cross River State.

 

It was gathered that Lawal was bundled into a vehicle and whisked away.

 

An eyewitness, Emma Abang, said the incident happened at about 10a.m in the presence of security officials in the bank

 

He said, “The army officer was kidnapped in front of one of the popular banks along Calabar Road after he had finished his transactions.

 

“It was not clear whether they kidnapped him because of the transaction he went to carry out; but they just whisked him into their vehicle and zoomed off. They took him to an unknown destination.”

 

However, the Army Public Relations Officer in charge of 13 Brigade, Calabar, Capt. Kayode Owolabi, said he was not aware of the incident.

Gunmen Storm Ikorodu, Kill Pregnant Woman, Three Others

There was pandemonium in the Ikorodu area of Lagos as gunmen stormed the Ibeshi area of Ikorodu killing a pregnant woman, her two children and another man.

Witnesses said that the woman identified as Afusatu Kazeem, her two children and the other victim of the gun attack who was also identified as Sunday Roberts were rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital were they were confirmed dead.

Many other persons were wounded in the gun attack, which cannot be explained, but the Police spokes person in Lagos, Dolapo Badmus confirmed that the woman  was killed in the attack but her two children and Mr. Roberts were receiving treatment at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation by Daily Sun indicate that four persons were killed including the woman.

DVC escapes as gunmen kidnap DPO’s daughter, govt official.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Cross River University of Technology, Prof. Gabriel Ikpi, is currently recuperating from gunshot wounds sustained after he escaped being kidnapped.

The incident, which happened over the weekend, had thrown the university community into panic.

Also, an unidentified daughter of a former Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, Mr. John Umoh, was kidnapped in Calabar on Monday.

This came just as the Executive Secretary of Obudu Urban Development Authority, Mr. Canice Atsu, was on the same day abducted by unknown gunmen in his Obudu home.

Southern City News learnt on Tuesday that while the deputy vice chancellor was said to be recuperating from gunshot wounds, the abductors of Umoh’s daughter had demanded N20m, even as the police officer offered to pay N115, 000 to the kidnappers.

A source, who spoke on Ikpi’s kidnap attempt, said the deputy vice chancellor escaped from the vehicle after the gunmen had cornered him.

The source said, “The suspects attempted to kidnap the deputy vice chancellor for ransom, but luck was on the side of the Professor of Agriculture as he successfully fought his abductors.

“He escaped in the end with a gunshot on his leg. He is believed to be traumatised, but recuperating in the hospital.”

The Registrar of CRUTECH, Mr. Gabriel Beshel, who confirmed the incident, said the deputy vice chancellor was responding to treatment.

On the kidnap of Umoh’s daughter, a source said the policeman, who is currently the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mbo Division in Akwa Ibom State, had offered to pay the N115, 000 but the kidnappers would not accept that.

It was learnt that Umoh’s wife also sustained bullet wounds during the encounter with the abductors in Calabar.

He said, “The gunmen had a gun duel with the DPO before they succeeded in taking the daughter. I understand that the wife was shot when she struggled to save her daughter. She is said to be in the hospital.

“The kidnappers have demanded N20m but the DPO could not raise the money. He was only able to raise N115,000 and it is not clear if the abductors have collected that money.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the abduction of Umoh’s daughter and the executive secretary of Obudu Urban Development Authority.

She said, “For the case of the Obudu kidnap, no official report was made to the police, but the commissioner has asked the DPO to monitor and investigate the situation. For that of Umoh’s daughter, we are on top of the situation.”

Gunmen Invade Lagos School, Kidnap Principal

Gunmen suspected to be militants on Thursday morning invaded Igbo Nla Model College in Epe, Lagos, whisking away the principal.

It was however unascertained if students of the college were kidnapped, as there were contradictory reports as at the time of filing this report.

It was learnt that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud  (SARS) have been deployed on a rescue mission in the school.

Gunmen Kill 10 In Benue

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders have killed at least 10 people and injured many in Logo local government area of Benue state.
The attacks on Logo have  become regular in recent times despite a peace meeting held last week between stakeholders of the affected Tiv speaking people and Fulani herders.

A resident of the area and former government official, Chief Joseph Anawah said that yesterday’s attack on the community happened around 7:30 am while the farmers were heading to their various farms.
Anawah said that the persons killed hailed from Adayohov and Sontyo villages of Gaabe-Tiev in Logo LGA, and that more people were still missing.
But, the State Coordinator of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Garus Gololo, has denied any fresh clash between the farmers and herders.
“I have contacted my people there (Logo) and they said there was nothing like that,” Gololo said.
Conversely, the member representing Logo Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Kester Kyenge, said the casualty figures could be more because some bodies were still being recovered from the bush at the time of this report.
The state Police Command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu said that four persons were attacked by suspected herders at Tse-Adayol in Mbagbe ward of Logo and that one was killed, one missing while the other two were injured.

Gunmen Kidnap Foreign Contractors In Calabar

At least three Australian citizens and one Australian resident, who were contractors for Lafarge cement company have been kidnapped and their driver killed in Calabar, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Thursday.

There was an initial confusion over the number of victims and nationalities of those involved, as police in gave conflicting accounts, Reuters said in a report.

But media reports indicate that three Australians, a New Zealander, a South African and two Nigerians were attacked by the gunmen with one of them shot dead.

The two workers later escaped, police said. They were attacked on the outskirts of the city of Calabar at around 05:30 a.m.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull called the incident a “very serious kidnapping” in response to a journalist’s question and urged calm in reporting the incident.

“These are the facts as we know them: three Australians and one Australian resident were among seven people kidnapped in an attack on an Australia contractor’s operations in Nigeria. One person was killed in the attack,” Turnbull told reporters.

Two expatriates managed to flee, said Irene Ugbo, a spokeswoman for Cross River state police, adding that she did not know the nationality of any of the workers feared still held.

Ugbo had earlier said that only two of the kidnapped were Australians, and one was a New Zealander, while another police officer said a South African had been abducted.

The kidnappers had not contacted police, she said.

Kidnappings of foreigners are common in the Delta region, which holds most of the crude oil whose sales make about 70 percent of Nigeria’s national income.

Gunmen Invade Governor Ambode’s Mother’s Home

Heavily armed gunmen on Friday evening invaded the residence of Christianah Ambode, the mother of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, disarming the octogenarian’s police detail in an apparent attempt to abduct her, sources said.

The incident occurred at 24 Oguntona Crescent, Gbagada Estate I, Lagos at approximately 7:30 p.m., neighbours said.

The police officers manning Mrs. Ambode’s home were “overpowered and dispossessed of their rifles,” sources said.

Mrs. Ambode was, however, fortunate, as a swift reinforcement by the state’s police command thwarted the ploy of the assailants, who fled the scene. The back-up team arrived at 8:10 p.m., the sources said.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, said she could not immediately confirm the attack.

A senior Lagos State Government official close to Mr. Ambode said a commotion occurred near Mrs. Ambode’s home. He, however, denied that it was a case of attempted kidnap.

The source said a man went to invite military personnel attached to Operation Mesa to beat Mrs. Ambode’s police detail after he was ordered not to park his vehicle outside the building.

“We heard from the governor’s security that the matter was not about kidnapping,” the source said. “What happened was that a man parked his vehicle outside the home of the governor’s mother and the policemen there asked him to take his vehicle away.”

“He then went to call men of Operation Mesa to deal with the policemen, that was what caused the disturbance.”

Gunmen Kill 8 In Rivers

Gunmen suspected to be cultists Saturday night killed eight persons including the oldest man in Ozochi, Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State in an attack believed to be a reprisal.
A source from the community said the cult members invaded the community, shooting sporadically, but could not confirm which group carried out the act or the motive.

They also set shops and other property ablaze. The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East LGA, Britain Okpara Ewor and the lawmaker representing the constituency in the state House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, in separate statements, confirmed the incident, as well as the state police spokesman, Ahmad Muhammad.

Ewor, who spoke through his media aide, Monday Oyagiri, condemned the attack, describing the perpetrators as enemies of the state.   Similarly, Ehie urged security operatives in the state to investigate the killing and ensure that the culprits are punished.

NNPC Staff Abducted By Gunmen

A staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), identified as Yusuf Abdulkadir has been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen in Kaduna.
Abdulkadir, who is a staff in the NNPC Abuja office was said to have been abducted on Saturday at his residence in Rigachiku, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 10pm on Saturday when he was whisked away to an unknown destination.
According to a family source, the gunmen trailed him while he was returning to his house and picked him up.
”They trailed him to the house yesterday dragged him out of his car at gun point and whisked him away.
”He works at NNPC Towers, Abuja, but on weekends, drives to Kaduna, where his family members reside,” the source added.
The matter has been reported to police but efforts to reach the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, Zubairu Abubakar on the development proved abortive as his phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
Three clergymen, Dr Emmanuel Dziggau, Yakubu Talba Dzarma and Iliya Anto who eventually died in his abductors’ custody, were kidnapped on March 21 while another Colonel Samaila Inusa was abducted and killed on 26th of March, 2016, in the state.

Gunmen Kidnap Three Kaduna Pastors, Demand N100m

Members of the Taraya Ekklesiyoyin Kristi A Nigeria (Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria, TEKAN), have been thrown into confusion following the kidnapping of their President, Dr. Emmanuel Dziggau.

Dziggau was said to have been kidnapped on Monday along with his deputy, Rev. Illiya Anto, and a retired reverend in the church, Yakubu Dzarma.

Anto was later released on health grounds.

TEKAN General Secretary, Rev. Moses Ebuga, told newsmen in Jos on Tuesday that the three men were kidnapped in Kaduna.

Dziggau is also the president of Haddiyar Ekklesiya Kristi A Nigeria (United Church of Christ in Nigeria) and the TEKAN/ECWA bloc leader in the Christian Association of Nigeria.

The three men were said to have been kidnapped at the church crusade ground along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Monday morning.

It was learnt that the masked gunmen stormed the crusade ground and picked the three men while other church members fled.

The General Secretary of the church and one of the eyewitnesses, Rev Jibrailu Wobiya, who confirmed the abduction to one of our correspondents, said Dziggau and some members were at the area to clear the crusade ground for a forthcoming church programme.

Ebuga called on the Federal Government and security operatives to do everything possible to ensure the safety of the clergymen.

He said the kidnappers had contacted him and demanded a ransom of N100m.

Ebuga described the abduction of the clerics as shocking, calling for their immediate release.

He said the three men might have been kidnapped because of the oncoming CAN national election.

He added, “We are not ignorant of the recent scheming against the Nigerian church with regard to the upcoming CAN national election, where the leaders have become the subject of attacks, particularly the leadership of TEKAN/ECWA bloc in CAN.

“As a body, we are calling on the government to do everything possible to ensure the safety of the leaders,  unearth their whereabouts and to have the perpetrators fished out.

Ebuga called on the TEKAN churches and the Nigerian church to rise up in prayer against the ugly development, asking them to pray that God would expose the sponsors and perpetrators of the kidnapping.

The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to confirm the kidnapping of the pastors on Tuesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abubakar Zubairu, did not return repeated telephone calls to his mobile.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kaduna State, Rev. George Dodo, described the pastors’ abduction as “unpleasant and shocking.”

The CAN’s chairman, while confirming the incident, said he just heard of the “unpleasant” development on Tuesday, calling on security agencies to do all they could to unmask the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

Dodo stated, “I heard about it this afternoon; it is an unpleasant news, a shocking news to everybody. Government should put in motion all its security apparatus to ensure the liberation of those abducted.”

The spokesman for the Northern States CAN, Rev. Josesph Hayab,  condemned the abduction of the clerics.

He called on the kidnappers to release the three men unconditionally or be prepared to incur the wrath of God.

Gunmen Behead One, Abduct Another In Rivers

Unidentified gunmen on Thursday morning, stormed Mgbuitanwo, in Emohua Clan, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, the home country of the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Saturday’s rerun elections, Chief Andrew Uchendu, killed and beheaded a 28-year-old man identified as Mr. Ukeoma.

It was learnt that the gunmen who laid siege to the community also abducted another resident. At the moment, residents are in shock and fear permeates the area.

Gunmen Kidnap Three Female Students In Lagos

No fewer than three students of Babington Macaulay ?Junior Seminary School, a private school in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, have been abducted by some gunmen.

It was learnt that the bandits stormed the school at about 8.30 pm on Monday and seized the children.

The ?Lagos State Police Command confirmed that three schoolgirls were abducted. However unconfirmed reports said the number of the abducted students was more than three.

How Gunmen Massacred 50 Villagers In Zamfara

About 50 persons were reportedly killed on Saturday night by a group of unknown gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers.

The armed bandits who besieged Kwanar Dutse community under Maru local government area of Zamfara state also razed half the number of houses in the community.

Witnesses said the gunmen attacked the community while majority of the residents were asleep.

A resident, Salisu Musa, said the bandits came prepared to wreak havoc.

“I rushed to the main entrance and peeped through a hole and spotted many motorcycles, each loaded with three persons armed with heavy rifles” he said.

He said he was horrified when he heard sporadic gunshots followed by horrible wailing sounds of men, women and children being killed in cold blood.

He said the gunmen operated till dawn without the intervention of the military, the police or any other security organ.

Though he could not ascertain the number of casualties, Musa said from his estimation during the burial of the deceased, ‘about 50 persons have lost their lives in the attack.’

Another witness, Hamza Bula, said he was awoken by the sounds of gunshots all over the community.

“I quickly realized that our community was under house to house attack by insurgents.’’

He told our reporter that the insurgents moved from house to house in a highly coordinated operation, killing everyone in sight.

It was gathered that the death merchants, at the end of the deadly operation, left unchallenged with an unspecified number of cattle.

Meanwhile, the state police command,  spokesperson, DSP Sanusi Amiru, confirmed that only 12 people were killed in the attack, adding that police and military squads have been drafted in the area to restore peace and provide security for the community.

Gunmen Blow Up Agip Gas Pipeline Over Suspect’s Arrest

A group of armed men believed to be cultists have blown up a gas facility in Akala Olu village, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State for the arrest and continued detention of a suspect, Mr. Emmanuel Odum.
The attack on the gas facility, according to a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade in Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazarus, disrupted production activities of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company.
The suspected cultists believed to be members of Icelander cult group had demanded the release of Odum, who was said to be currently undergoing interrogation for his alleged involvement in pipeline vandalisation and cult-related activities.
The statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday indicated that the vandals and suspected cultists had also threatened to carry out further attacks on oil and gas installations unless their demands were met.
“In the early hours of Sunday February 7, 2016, pipeline vandals destroyed a gas facility in Akala Olu village in Oshie community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, thereby disrupting the production activities of Nigeria Agip Oil Company.
“The vandals threatened to carry out further acts of vandalism unless their demands are met. The vandals are suspected members of Icelander cult group.
“The group demanded for the release of a detained suspect; one Mr. Emmanuel Odum currently undergoing interrogation in connection with pipeline vandalism and cult related activities,” the statement read.

Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers In Kaduna

Gunmen on Sunday morning killed two mobile police officers at a security checkpoint in Nimbia Village, a boundary community between Kafanchan in Kaduna State and Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The spokesperson of the Special Task Force, STF, in Plateau, Ikedichi Iweha, stated this in a telephone interview.

Mr. Iweha, a Captain in the Nigeria Army, said the victims were not members of the STF.

“The two mobile police officers who were killed are members of Task Force in Kaduna State,” he said. “They were attacked at about 10:30 a.m. today (Sunday).”

The Army Captain said his troops trailed the attackers but did not get them.

He said no arrest has been made while the remains of the victims have been taken to Kafanchan in Kaduna State.

Mr. Iweha said the STF has reinforced its troops in the search for the suspects.

Gunmen Abduct Jonathan’s Cousin

Less than 24 hours after four armed gunmen kidnapped Governor Henry Seriake Dickson’s sister, Nancy Ke­merovo Dickson, another set of armed men have abducted cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

She is the Commissioner for Local Government in Dickson’s government.

Investigations indicated that the woman, identified only as Mrs Otazi, was kid­napped in Ewoi community, Ogbia Local Government area of Bayelsa State.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the community Sunday afternoon and went for their target.

Police Public Relations Of­fice (PPRO) of Bayelsa State police command, Mr Ansim Butwats who confirmed the  incident, however, said po­lice are investigating the mat­ter to know the identity of the woman.

A top security source said Mrs Otazi is Jonathan’s rela­tive and that security opera­tives are already investigat­ing the incident.

Gunmen Kill Lecturer, Son In Port Harcourt

A lecturer at the Rivers State owned Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Dr. Ebirien Fubara and his son, have been killed by unknown gunmen.

Fubara was on secondment to the Rivers State Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

?This is as the lecturer’s wife’s brother, Okwudiri, who was in the house when the hoodlums struck, is said to be in critical condition as at the time of filing the report.

The incident occurred at about 2a.m, at their residence along Peter Odili Road, Port Harcourt, even as the cause of the killings could not be ascertained.

A source close to the bereaved family said the hoodlums used hammer, iron and rod to attack the victims.

According to the source who did not want his name in print, the late Fubara’s son died instantly, while Fabura and Okwudili were rushed to the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, BMSH.

Fubara was said to have passed on shortly and his corpse deposited at the Military Hospital, Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

Gunmen Kill 4 In Lagos Community, Injure 20

It was gathered that the gunmen drove to the community about 9.30pm in two cars and shot sporadically at residents at Odofin, Kano Jebba, Osalanke and Bello Streets.

Residents said the gunmen wore face masks and operated   close to one hour without any resistance from security agencies.

When our correspondent visited the community on Tuesday, a team of policemen from the Denton Police station and the Rapid Response Squad were seen patrolling the community.

According to a police source, the team of policemen stormed the Ebute Onipomo area a slum community close to where the shooting took place and arrested four persons in connection with the shooting .

The police source also stated that three corpses were recovered from the scene of the shooting at Ebute_Onipomo . The three corpses whosw identities were yet to be revealed were killed in the wee hour of Tuesday.

When contacted over the incident, the Chief (Baale) of the Okobaba community, Alhaji Musbau Junadu said his son is among the residents shot by the gun men.

He said ” I left Odofin street to my house but as I was parking my car, I got a phone call that gunmen were shooting. I hurried back and saw that my son Muheed was shot on his two legs. He is a footballer but they want to render him useless.I am at the Igbobi hospital to ensure that he survives. He and other residents that they shot have been taken to the hospital for treatment. I cannot tell you who these people (gun men) are or where they came from. One Kazeem died from the gun shot he sustained”

It was further gathered that the gunmen were repelled from attacking residents at Apapa road by a combined team of policemen and the Vigilantee Group.

Gunmen Kidnap Community Leader In Bayelsa

Armed men in military camouflage have reportedly kidnapped a community leader, identified as Chief Geoffrey Agorodi, at Ogbia Town, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The abduction, it was gathered, occurred at about 8.30pm last Friday some distance from Ogbia Town jetty.

The four gunmen,  allegedly bundled Agorodi into a waiting speedboat and sped off after shooting sporadically to scare people away.

Chairman of Ogbia clan, Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide, Mr. Osaanya B. Osaanya, condemned the incident, describing it as one abduction too many in the council.

He said: “Kidnapping has become a worrisome development at Ogbia. Kidnappers have laid siege to our council and at the last count, over five persons were abducted in the past one month.

“This is unacceptable. Most of the victims were elderly men and women, including traditional rulers.”

Gunmen Kidnap Bayelsa Monarch, Shoot Police

Again, dare devil armed men yesterday invaded a community in Bayelsa State and abducted the paramount ruler of the Biseni clan of Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Lucky Oberike.

In another separate incident also in Yenagoa, gunmen operating in black Lexus jeep attacked the residence of the former Senior Special Assistant to the former President on Domestic Matter, Dr. Wariponmowei Dudafa, shooting a Police Corporal on duty at the residence in the shoulder.

Report gathered provides that the invasion of the Biseni community, which led to the kidnap of the Clan Head occurred at about 8pm on Tuesday.

The abducted clan head, identified as the father to a senior staff of the Bayelsa State Treasury Department was said to have been whisked away to unknown destination.

Confirming the two incidents, spokesman for the State Police Command, Mr. Astimin Butswat, said “On the 14/10/2015, at about 0200hrs, unknown gunmen went to the residence of His Royal Highness, Mr. Luckson O Oberike, the Clan Head of Biseni community, in Biseni, Yenagoa LGA. The unknown gunmen abducted him and whisked him away through IDU waterways in Rivers State.”

Gunmen Kill 4 In Niger State

No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead in an attack by Fulani herdsmen in Kwanan Mariga, Rafi local government area, Niger State .

The State Police Command’s police public relations officer, Bala Elkana (ASP), who confirmed killing in Minna yesterday, stated that the attack was a revenge for the alleged killing of a herdsman by three youths who accused him of being part of those who killed three vigilante members two months ago.

The spokesman said it was alleged that three youths of the village had accosted the herder in front of a shop at the weekend during Sallah celebration and killed him in the process, leading to some of his colleagues retreating to mobilize for a reprisal attack which led to the killing of four of the villagers.

He also stated that four persons also sustained injuries in the attack, three persons were arrested by the police, adding that the police were on the trail of other herdsmen who carried out the attack .

Elkana disclosed that those injured were admitted at the Kalgara General Hospital and were receiving treatment, and vowed that all those involved in all the attacks would be arrested.

Gunmen Hijack APC Governorship Primaries In Bayelsa

Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday morning in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, as gunmen and suspected cultists hijacked the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

19 aspirants were expected to contest in the primaries, but trouble broke out when the former Governor of the state and party leader, Timipre Sylva, suddenly picked up a form and joined the race.

The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, who conducted the primaries, had ordered the arrest of Mr Fortune Panabi, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, for allegedly accrediting unknown delegates for the exercise.

However, three of the aspirants, Timi Alaibe, Editimi Angbare and Priye Aganaba, called for a shift in the exercise, saying that the atmosphere was not conducive for a proper primary to hold.

Dickson’s Aide Abducted By Gunmen In Bayelsa

Gunmen have abducted the Special Adviser to Bayelsa State Governor on Political Matters, Mr. Fyneman Wilson, in the state.

Wilson was abducted in the early hours of Wednesday in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state. The abducted top aide in Dickson’s government is a kinsman of the governor.

It was learnt that the Special Adviser was abducted around 4pm on Wednesday by five gunmen.

HAPPENING NOW: Gunmen Attack Tourist Hotel In Tunisia

A tourist hotel in the Tunisian town of Sousse has been attacked by gunmen, a security source said. Ongoing exchanges of gunfire were being reported between the attackers and security forces.

There were no other details immediately available. Tunisia has been on high alert since March when gunmen attacked the Bardo museum in Tunis, killing a group of foreign tourists in one of the worst attacks in a decade in the North African country.

Gunmen Abduct CAN Secretary In Ondo

Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have abducted the Executive Secretary of the Cocoa Association of Nigeria,  Mr. Michael Adewunmi, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday night.

After the abduction, which reportedly took place at Akinjo Junction, Oshokoti area of the state capital, his black Toyota Lexus SUV was found abandoned with four doors opened. They were also said to have taken his Ipad and mobile phones along.

The victim’s vehicle, with number plate ONDO ANG 149 AA, was reportedly  discovered  by men of the Ondo State Police command and taken to the Ijapo Police Station, Akure.

As of the time of filling this report, the abductors had not made any  contact with the family of the victim but it was learnt that the state police command had swung into action to secure his release.

When reached on the telephone for comments, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the Command had commenced investigation on the matter and will soon rescue the victim.

Gunmen Kidnap Rep-Elect’s Mother

Gunmen abducted the mother of House of Representative-Elect in Benue State, Orker Jev, at her family house.

According to witnesses, the gunmen drove through a roadblock but were able to dismantle police through gun fighting. Jev has expressed that he is working for the release of his abducted mother and is yet to be contacted by the men.

Police are however investigating the abduction and the search is continuing to find the victim.

Gunmen Kill Policeman In Benue

Some yet-to-be identified gunmen on Wednesday shot and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Baba Ibrahim. Ibrahim was killed in the Kastina/Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, where he had gone on a special assignment on cattle rustling.

The spokesman for the Benue State Police Command, Austin Ezeani, said the murdered ASP was on a special assignment from Abuja. Ezeani said, “ASP Ibrahim was brought in from Abuja to lead a team of other officers to unravel the mystery surrounding cattle rustling in the state.

Gunmen Abduct Chairman Of President Jonathan’s Local Govt Council

Two unidentified gunmen on Wednesday abducted Enaye Abah, the Chairman of Ogbia, local government area in Bayelsa, and took him to an unknown destination. President Goodluck Jonathan comes from Ogbia local government as well.

It is not clear why Mr. Abah was kidnapped. The kidnappers are yet to contact Mr. Abah’s family but there are fears that the abduction has political undertones. The abducted council boss played a key role in election logistics for the Peoples Democratic Party in the State Assembly election.

The result of the election for the State House of Assembly Constituency seat remain inconclusive following the violence in the area. The Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to fix a new date over insecurity in the area. The Police Spokesperson for Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said the command had alerted Rivers and Delta Commands of the development.

The kidnappers allegedly trailed their victim, overtook his car and blocked him. They shot sporadically to scare away people around the area. “They abducted him in his car and transferred him to a blue mazda car and when they got to Okaka waterside they burnt the mazda car and escaped with a waiting speedboat into the river,” Mr. Butswat said.

Gunmen Kill El-Rufai’s Campaign Coordinator

Gunmen on Tuesday, killed a local campaign coordinator of the Kaduna state governor-elect, Nasir El-Rufai. Mr. El-Rufai’s spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement.

According to the statement, the gunmen trailed Markus Ishaya to his village, Atuku Kasa, Atuku Ward of Jema’a local government area of the state and shot him several times. He was the governor-elect’s coordinator in Atuku Ward and did very well in mobilizing support.

Mr. Aruwan said, “His family informed us that unknown gunmen stormed his residence and shot him several times. “The men, two in number, were well armed and did not pick any property in his residence except carrying out the ungodly act.

“The Police have confirmed the incident. The Police have also visited the scene of the crime and have commenced investigation.

“While we appreciate their prompt action, our expectation is that the security agencies will fully investigate this killing and prosecute the perpetrators.

“Security agencies must adequately protect all Nigerians irrespective of their status and standing,” he said.

Condoling the family, Mr. El-Rufai who prayed for the soul of the deceased said “Our empathy and prayers go to the family of Mr. Markus Ishaya and the entire community over this callous murder and desecration of human life. “May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family and friends the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”

Nasarawa Re-run: Gunmen Storm Polling Unit

Gunmen suspected to be political thugs on Saturday stormed Angwan Mangu and disrupted the ongoing re-run elections for Lafia-Obi federal constituency in Nasarawa state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared inconclusive the Lafia -Obi federal constituency elections and fixed Saturday 18 April for re-run in Chiroma ward before announcing the final result.

The gunmen, who came in three different vehicles, shot sporadically into the air to disrupt the exercise and possibly snatch election materials meant for the exercise.

Although the gunmen did not shoot anyone, but people took to their heels scampering for safety to avoid stray bullets.

However, unlucky for the gunmen, security agencies drafted to man the polling unit located close to the ECO bank along Jos Road, called for re -enforcement and arrested them with 7 Ak47 in one of their vehicles.

Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that the suspects were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad with seven AK47 in their cars after shooting in the air to disrupt the exercise.

John Tsaku said they came in three different vehicles, shooting in the air, scaring people during accreditation of eligible voters.

“The boys armed with AK47 first tried to snatch election materials but when voters on the queue resisted, they started shooting before the police, who were invited to arrest them, caught them with seven AK47 in the vehicle they parked across the road,” he said.

Gunmen Opened Fire At Amaechi’s Convoy In Wike’s Home Town

Armed attackers have opened fire on the convoy of Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State in Port Harcourt, the state capital. At least two people were injured in the attack which occurred Thursday evening, a witness said.

The Police spokesperson for Rivers State, Muhammad Ahmad, could not be immediately reached. He did not answer or return calls. The governor’s spokesperson, David Iyofor, said “thugs” shot at the governor in Rumuolumeni, Obio Akpor, area of Port Harcourt. Obio Akpor is the home of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike.

Tunisia Attack Leaves 21 People Dead, Two or Three Gunmen at Large

Tunisia’s prime minister Habib Essid has stated 21 people are dead after the brutal attack on the National Bardo Museum in the capital city of Tunis Wednesday morning. Among the dead are 17 foreign tourists. He also said two to three gunmen are still at large. Moreover, Essid appeared on live national television and told reporters the foreign tourists included people from Germany, Spain, Italy, and Poland.

Two of the attackers were killed when Tunisian law enforcement officers, donning full combat gear, entered the building to take took control of the scene. Currently, Tunisian forces are searching for two or three other gunmen that were involved and fled the scene. Both a Tunisian citizen and a law enforcement officer died during the attack.

The attack on the Bardo Museum resembles the attack on Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine that was overrun by Islamic extremists just a few months ago, resulting in multiple deaths. This is the first attack on a Tunisian tourist site in years. In recent times, Tunisia has struggled as a young democracy, and has had trouble fighting advancing Islamic insurgents.

As of now, the identities of the museum attackers are unknown. Essid stated everything is being done to hunt down the remaining gunmen.

Senate Leader Demands Probe Into Benue Killings

Senate President, David Mark, has tasked security operatives to arrest culprits responsible for the recent killings in his homeland of Agatu local government area of Benue State. According to his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mark reacted after he was briefed by some of his constituents on the development.

He expressed grief over the incident and wondered why his constituents would be killed continuosly by their supposed neighbors. “This is condemnable. This guerrilla warfare must be stopped. All hands must be on deck to put an end to this. Whatever the issue is, resort to violence or killings cannot bring a solution,” he said.

“We must come together and resolve the matter. This animalistic and barbaric act is condemnable by any right thinking members of the society” Mark added. He called for the establishment of a joint commission specifically to forestall further outbreak of violence and killings.

The Senate President also requested the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to help provide relief material to displaced persons in the area and pleaded with the people to remain law abiding as government finds solution to the crisis. Scores of indigenes of Egba community in Agatu local government area of Benue state were on Monday ambushed and murdered in cold blood.

Gunmen Attack Ex Speaker, Other PDP Chieftains in Rivers

Unknown gunmen have attacked a former Deputy Speaker of theRivers State House of Assembly, and House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Hon. Dumneme Dekor.

He along with other party chieftains were attacked on their way back to Port Harcourt after attending the party’s campaign rally at Bori, headquarters of Khana local government area of the state.

The gunmen opened fire on Dekor’s vehicle and succeeded in shattering the car with bullets. Dekor and his co-occupants of the car, however, escaped unhurt.

Other party chieftains in the car with Dekor were the immediate past chairman of Khana local government council, Gregory Nwidam, and DineBari Loolo, House of Assembly candidates for Khana Constituencies 1 and 11 respectively.

Gunmen Abduct Sen. Joshua Dariye’s Father

Gunmen on Saturday night kidnapped Dariye Defwang, the father of Sen. Joshua Dariye, at Mushere, his village in Bokkos Local Government, Plateau State.

The media reports that the gunmen invaded the fenced area housing the former Plateau Governor’s family and started shooting sporadically, which scared the villagers.

A resident who is also Dariye’s relation, told the media that “the fear-stricken villagers scampered in all directions and initially thought the invaders were cow thieves, but unknown to us, they had a different mission.” According to him, the gunmen forcefully took away the old man to the main road where they dressed him up with a woman’s clothes before speeding off with him on a motorcycle.

Unconfirmed sources claimed the kidnappers left a note in which they made their monetary demands to be paid in dollars. They were also said to have left a contact number, but a family source said efforts to reach the line had not been successful as it had remained switched off.

Maj. Gen. Dave Enetie, the Commander, Special Task Force (STF) in charge of peace in Plateau, who confirmed the incident, said his men were combing everywhere for clues. “We have reached out to security agents in Nasarawa and other neighbouring states. We have also linked up with the Directorate of Security Services (DSS) in Nasarawa and the search lights are everywhere, but we are yet to trace the kidnappers or the victim,” he said. He, however, said that the STF was not aware of any note left by the kidnappers.

BREAKING: Gunmen Attack APC Chairman, Oyegun In Abuja

Latest reports coming in from the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, inform that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) national chairman, Chief John Oyegun has been robbed by gunmen.

It was gathered that Oyegun’s residence in Abuja was raided in the early hours of Monday by yet unknown invaders.

According to a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party stated that while it is hoping that a police investigation will unravel what happened, it is either those who attacked the residence at 1.30 am are robbers or assassins.

The statement disclosed that Chief Oyegun was away attending a previously unscheduled meeting in Abuja when the invaders struck.

Prison Break Frees 200 Inmates in Minna

Gunmen broke into a prison in the central Nigerian city of Minna, freeing around 200 inmates. A police spokesman and security sources said the gunmen stormed the facility late on Saturday in Niger state, near to the capital Abuja.

Islamist sect Boko Haram and al Qaeda-linked group Ansaru have been behind several prison raids in recent years, although it was unclear whether they had anything to do with this one. One of the security sources said it’s unclear if this is Boko Haram or some criminal gangs.
