FIFA Rankings: Nigeria moves 10 places up.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved 10 places up in the November FIFA World ranking, to 50th.

In the rankings on the website of the world football governing body on Thursday, Nigeria is now placed joint 50th with Burkina Faso and Slovenia.

Nigeria garnered 616 points for the month of November after defeating Algeria 3-1 in the 2018 World Cup qualifier earlier in the month.

With this movement, Nigeria is now joint 7th with Burkina Faso at the continental level behind Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria and Congo DR.

The are several movements in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, thanks to the FIFA World Cup Russia qualification matches so far played over the past few weeks.

On the global scene, Argentina remains top for November, but has seen its command on the summit weakened by close rivals, Brazil (2 up 1).

The December ranking will be the final ranking for 2016 and will be published on Dec. 22.

It will reveal the winners for the “Team of the Year Award’’, given to the team in first place by year’s end.

“Mover of the Year’’ is awarded to the team that has won the most points over the course of the year. (NAN)

Nigeria Rise To 67th On FIFA Rankings

Nigeria senior football team, Super Eagles, rose three places in the latest FIFA rankings to berth at the 67th position.

The Super Eagles were last July rated 70th globally and 17th on the continent. However, in August ranking, Nigeria moved a place in Africa to 16th behind Algeria, Ghana, CIV, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Congo DR, Cape Verde, Mali, Congo, South Africa, Uganda, Guinea respectively.

There were no changes at the rankings summit, with the top 20 retaining their July position.

Argentina remain top, followed closely by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.

Just two international matches, both friendlies, have been played since the July Ranking, meaning that the changes that have taken place are generally minor.

Super Eagles In Free Fall On FIFA Rankings

The fortune of Nigeria on the monthly Coca-Cola FIFA World Rankings witnessed a further downward trend as the Super Eagles did not only lose seven places, but failed to make Top 10 on the African continent.

Nigeria, who were on number 52 in October, fell to 59 in the latest ranking made public by FIFA on Thursday. While the likes of Cape Verde climbed nine places, from 41 in October to 32 in November and DR Congo climbed five places, from 60 in October to 55 in November, star studded Nigerian team failed to make positive impact on the world ranking.

Ivory Coast dethroned Algeria from their number one spot in Africa as the North African team lost seven places in the latest ranking. Algeria were on number 19 last month, but dropped to 26 this month, while the Ivorians are 22 in the latest ranking.

Ghana’s Black Stars are third in Africa with their number 30 on the ranking with Cape Verde (32), Senegal (39), Tunisia (41), Cameroon (51), Congo (52), Guinea (53), DR Congo (55) completing Africa’s Top 10 in that order.

Egypt (57) and Nigeria are on numbers 11th and 12th respectively.
