Martha Binabo, the kidnapped wife of the former acting governor of Bayelsa, Nestor Binabo, has been released.
Ms. Binabo, abducted on June 29, was freed on Sunday.
A family source who wished to be anonymous said on Sunday that the woman was handed over to a negotiator at Buguma area of Rivers in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the source, the family complied with the kidnappers warning not to involve the police. The kidnappers gave their victim N18,000 for transport and a big fish when she was released. They reportedly told their victim to prepare pepper soup for her husband with the fish.
It was gathered that a ransom of N8.2 million was paid to secure her freedom. The spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Astimin Butswat, who confirmed the development, said the command is yet to get full details on her release.
