Ijaw Group Counters Clark, Lists What He Benefited From Jonathan

A group, Ijaw Justice Forum, IJF, in Delta State, Wednesday, said it was malicious for former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, to say that he did not get anything from the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration.

In a statement jointly signed by the president and secretary, Karona Etonye and Ekenwan Akwagbe respectively, the group said it was surprised at media report quoting Clark to have said among other things to that he did not get any contract and never asked for job slots for either his children or relatives in Jonathan regime.

“This is the peak of ingratitude from a man, who called himself the ‘father’ of the former president.
He attracted patronage from the high and mighty from all parts of Nigeria and received gifts of cash and kind because of their perceived closeness of him to Dr. Jonathan.

“It is wicked and mischievous for Clark to say that he did not get anything from the Jonathan administration, including contracts. Perhaps, Clark made this statement to the Vanguard reporter in his dream, has he forgotten that his company was awarded a contract for the reclamation and shore protection of Amadi-ama community in Rivers State by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs during the Jonathan era? The group added.

They asserted, “It can be said and indeed correctly that Clark is the proverbial fowl that eats and cleans its beak or mouth on the ground so that there will be no trace of food particles on the sides of its mouth. This, he has done to several persons that occupied public offices in the past.

“Between 1999 and 2007, Chief Clark was one of the elders that benefitted most from the administration of Chief James Ibori in Delta State. As it is characteristic of him, he sponsored a so-called Delta Elders and Stakeholders’ Forum to petition the EFCC alleging that Ibori committed monumental corrupt practices while in office.

“It is quite unfortunate that Chief Clark at 90 can peddle lies and make them appear as if they were true. How would Clark say that he did not ask for jobs for his children or for his relatives? Has he forgotten the note he wrote to the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe asking him to use his good offices to make his younger brother, Mr. Isa Clark the Coordinator of the Sure- P programme in Delta South Senatorial District? The group further said.

It asserted, “Under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Chief Clark applied for and was granted licence to establish a private university, the E. K. Clark University in his hometown, Kiagbodo. The launching, which took place in the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja was attended by the who- is- who in Nigerian politics, including Dr. Jonathan himself.”

“To complement the federal government gesture, the NDDC awarded contract for the sinking of a bore hole in the university campus. It is incontrovertible that he had that huge patronage because of the former president. If he doubts it, we challenge him to come up with a new project and see how many Nigerians of substance will attend,” IJF said.

According to it, “There are many more gains that Clark made in the Jonathan era, never before in his political life has he gotten the kind of patronage he had under Jonathan.”

The group pointed out the Chief Clark contributed hugely to failure of the former president in the March presidential polls, saying, “The insults and abuses he rained on leading political figures across Nigeria attracted hatred to Jonathan and that affected negatively the outcome of the election results.”

Read Words Edwin Clark Has About President Buhari

A former Federal Commissioner of Information, Chief Edwin Clark, has once again canvassed support for President Muhamadu Buhari. He described the President as being capable of leading the country; therefore, he should be supported by all Nigerians.

Clark, a resolute supporter of former President Goodluck Jonathan, spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at his residence when he received a group, known as Probity Ambassadors Organisation of Nigeria.

He said though he was among those who campaigned against the emergence of the President during the election, Clark said since Nigerians voted for him (Buhari), the President must be supported in order to enable him succeed in the task ahead.

The foremost Ijaw leader added that the way former President Jonathan conceded defeat had also made the task of running the country easier for the President.

He said: “I have congratulated President Buhari and today, he is our President. He’s not the President of a section of the country. Buhari is fit for the job and he’s capable of leading us. We will support him. Campaigns are over and a winner has emerged. We must come together after the election and give our support to the President. The loser of the election, who had all the powers to do and undo, came out to congratulate the President”.

Clark added that he is an elder statesman, he has to support anyone whoever wins the election. Commending Jonathan’s action, he said: “That action of the former President is the best thing that has happened in this country. You can only be the President of the country when it is intact. All of us must join hands together to support President Buhari”.

He further said the former President Jonathan took that action of congratulating President Buhari because of his love for the country.

I Won’t Die Because Jonathan Lost His Election – Edwin Clark

A former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, has said it is wrong for anyone to think that he would die because President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election.
Clark, who was one of the supporters of the President, spoke with journalists on Friday in Abuja.
He said some people had been going round with rumours that he collapsed when he heard about the outcome of the presidential election.
It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), defeated Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the election.
Clark, who said he was travelling to London on Friday night, said he decided to speak with journalists before the rumour mongers would go to the market again and say that he had been flown

abroad in air ambulance.

The Ijaw National leader wondered why some people could be thinking he would die when he was not the one that contested election.
He said even the President that stood for the election had conceded defeat and congratulated Buhari.
He said, “I am here today to tell you that I am not dead. Or am I dead? In every election, there would be winners and losers. The same thing happened during the last presidential election.
“I am alive. Today, I won’t talk about what happened before, during and after the election. That will come another day.
“I am talking to you now because I am travelling tomorrow and some people will go into the streets and say I was carried into air ambulance.
“President Jonathan that contested election had congratulated the winner and the whole world acclaimed him for conceding defeat.
“Jonathan was the one who contested election, I didn’t. So, why should I die.”

Insurgency Is Not The Presidents Problem Alone- E.K Clark

Former Federal Commissioner for Information, Edwin Clark has again reacted to the believe in some quarters that President Goodluck Jonathan is not doing enough to tackle the Boko Haram violent sect.

According to him, insurgency was a national problem, which was spreading all over the world.

He said citizens must stop the blame game and join hands with the federal government to confront the challenge.

“It’s not the president’s problem alone. It’s not a North East problem alone, it’s not the ruling party’s problem alone; It’s not the problem of the opposition party. It’s everybody’s problem”, Clark told Daily Independent.

“We must put our differences aside and fight a common enemy trying to invade our country. The soldiers alone cannot do it. The Armed Forces alone cannot do it. It requires the cooperation of everybody.

“Also I believe the victims of insurgency should be taken care of. NEMA should give out enough relief materials. Major religious bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA should join hands to bring succour to the people displaced by insurgency”.

Asked if the president had done enough for Nigerians to vote him in for a second term, the Ijaw leader replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, he has. And if his party, the PDP, and the various organs of the party unanimously decide to make him the sole candidate, the party is a great party. That means they are satisfied that he has done enough. I think, without being immodest, he has done more than many other rulers in this country.”
