Eid-el-Kabir: NSCDC mobilises 800 personnel in Sokoto

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, has mobilised more than 800 personnel to provide security in the state during the forthcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

The state Commandant of the corps, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Sokoto that the security operatives would be deployed to Eid praying grounds, public buildings and recreation centres to ensure safety of residents.

He said that the operatives would complement the efforts of other security agencies in the state to ensure security.

I strongly urge members of the general public to be security conscious and report any suspicious movements in and around their neighbourhood to security agencies for prompt action,” Aliyu said.

He also said that plain-cloth security personnel had been deployed on foot patrols to sensitive locations. Aliyu saidd that the measure was aimed at protecting the citizens against security threats.

According to him, NSCDC personnel in local government areas of the state have been briefed on security measures to be adopted to deal with any unforeseen circumstances before, during and after the celebration.

NAN reports that the Federal Government has declared Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 public holidays for the celebration of Eid-EL-Kabir by Muslims.

Eid-El-Kabir: Ram Sellers Lament Over Low Patronage

Ram sellers in Kaduna on Monday expressed regrets about the low sale they had recorded, barely a week to the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

Many ram selling points which include Zango, Bachama road and Rigasa markets in Kaduna metropolis saw the presence of many rams that remain unsold for days.

Alhaji Rabo Mohammad, who sells his rams at Bachama Road market, told NAN that the ram sellers had never had it so bad.

Mohammad, who came from Sokoto with rams, said he sold only five out of the 50 rams he brought to Kaduna two weeks ago.

The economic situation has contributed to the low patronage and is affecting even our pockets. There is still hope, as the festival is one week from now, we pray to make some sales before then. Returning the animals to Sokoto will be a great loss to me because of the expenses involved,“ he said.

Mohammad said prices of the animals ranged from N25, 000 to N120, 000.

Another ram dealer, Baballe Yaro, also blamed current economic recession as the main factor responsible for the low sales recorded so far.

The present economic meltdown has now become a threat not only to ram sellers but also to entire business activities in Nigeria. The Federal Government should do something urgently to address the suffering of the masses.

Although people want to buy rams for the festival, they cannot afford to due to the prevailing economic situation in the country.”

Yaro believed that the price may eventually crash as many traders would not want to return back with the animals.

According to him, some of the traders bought the rams from Niger Republic, Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina States.

But there is hope since we have one week before the celebration if all civil servants will have their salaries before Sallah,“ Yaro said.

Eid-el-Kabir : NSCDC deploys 40,000 personnel nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had deployed 40,000 personnel across the country to provide maximum security during the Sallah festivities.

This is contained in a statement signed by Emmanuel Okeh, the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, Abdullahi Gana, the Commandant General of the Corps, directed the deployment of the 40,000 personnel to ensure adequate peace and safety.

He assured Nigerians that adequate preparation was being made to protect critical areas such as places of worship, markets and schools and other soft targets during the period.

He called on citizens to be extra vigilant and security conscious at all time by reporting strange movements and objects to security personnel.

“The Corps is prepared to protect all critical national assets such as telecommunication masts and oil pipelines among others in collaboration with other security agencies.

“In our efforts to fight miscreants and criminal-minded individuals who see festive periods as the time to perpetuate their nefarious activities, all hands must be on deck.

“Most especially in the areas of intelligence-gathering and reporting all suspicious behaviour to relevant security authorities,’’ the NSCDC boss was quoted as saying.

While felicitating with all Nigerians, especially the Muslims on the Sallah celebrations, he urged them to continue to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence and tolerance at all time.

JNI Declares Wednesday Eid-el-Kabir Sallah Day

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, the umbrella body of Islamic groups in Nigeria, has declared that the month of Dhul Hajj begins today (Monday) which means Eid-el-Kabir Sallah would be observed on Wednesday, September 23.

The JNI, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, stated this in a statement on Sunday.

The statement signed by its secretary general, Khalid Aliyu, said the Sultan and the JNI “felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah over the successful commencement of Dhul-Hajj today Monday 14th September, 2015. This is indeed gratifying as Wednesday 23rd September 2015 will mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, In-Shaa-Allah”.

The JNI implored Muslims who can, to fast for the first nine days of the month, especially on the Arafat day, as recommended by the Prophet Muhammad, for non-pilgrims.

“We should also seek Allah’s forgiveness, glorify and extol Him more. This is so because of the special virtues of the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and the immense benefits therein,” the statement said.

Independence or Eid El Kabir?- Dinah Adams

These photos was taken from Area 1 roundabout, Garki, Abuja.

Following the preparedness of Nigerians and the Federal Government for the 54th Independence celebration of Nigeria, it is highly offending and disappointing to see that not even a single shade of green and white was visible on that major road.

In order not to be misunderstood, this post is written from the aggrieved heart of a Nigerian and not from a religious perspective.

Old Town Historic Alexandria

This is how the streets of America look like on July 4th, but some might say that America is not a very religious community, thus consider this other illustration.

indiaa saudi

Above are the streets of India and Saudi Arabia on their national day celebrations, considering they are among the world’s most religious nations.

So what excuse do we have as country to not honour even a tiny flag of Green and White on that major road but had the time to decorate the roundabout with lighting for a religious celebration that is a few days after 1st October.

Have we lost all sense of patriotism left that we no longer regard the freedom that our founding fathers suffered humiliation fighting for?

For goodness’ sake, this is a major round about in the FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY and it is a slap on the face of every Nigerian and let us please keep religion out of this, because ignoring our Independence and flaunting any religious celebration does not make us religious… Not at all.

The harsh tone of this post would remain same if it was a Cross or the sculpture of Sango or Amadioha or any religious symbol that was being lighted on that roundabout, without a decoration of Green and White to mark and celebrate our Independence.

The progress of our nation is not only dependent on our religious show offs but also on our dedication to this Nation that binds us and gives us an identity among other nations of the world.

Regardless of tribe, religion, beliefs and norms, being Nigerian is what enables us to raise shoulders anywhere we find ourselves in the world. There is a high probability of foreigners asking of your nationality first before your religion.

Hence, it is sickening to realize that the FCT had barely anything to show indicating that Nigeria is 54. It is even more sickening to realize that some people even celebrate the birthdays of their cats and dogs, but here is the our beloved country being neglected on Her birthday.

Let us however remember that we will all pay for it if we continue with this habit of carelessness and unpatriotism and also remember that the only heritage we can leave for our children is a united Nigeria, a nation that stands firm regardless of tribal and religious differences.

Happy Independence and Happy Eid El Kabir in advance.
