The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state has distanced itself from the results being announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Nation gathered that the party described the results so far announced as a predetermined fabrication, accusing the INEC and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of electoral fraud as well as militarisation.

#EdoDecides: Protesters Storm INEC Office In Benin

There is an ongoing protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Office in Benin, venue of the collation of results for Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The protesters, many of whom are from Esan West and Esan East local government areas, are protesting against the conduct of the election in their area.

They are asking INEC to stop the announcement of results from the area.

#EdoDecides: APC Leads PDP By 5,616 Votes Halfway To Results Announcement

The electoral commission, INEC, has announced the results of nine of the 18 local governments in Edo State.

The results show that the ruling All Progressives Congress won in 5 local governments while the Peoples Democratic Party won in 4 local governments.

The APC so far has 142,424 votes while the PDP has 136,808 votes.

The ruling party candidate, Godwin Obaseki, thus leads his main challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP by 5,616 votes.

#EdoDecides: INEC Denies Allegation Of Ballot Box Snatching, Gunshots

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has denied report of ballot box snatching and gunshots in some polling centres during the Edo governorship election on Wednesday.

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole had earlier said he received a report that some thugs allegedly snatched ballot boxes at Opoji in Esan North-East Local Government Area during the election.

Oshiomhole also alleged that the suspected snatchers shot sporadically before taking away the ballot boxes.

#EdoDecides: Obaseki Wins At His Polling Unit

 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Edo state governorship election, Godwin Obaseki, has won in his Ward 4, unit 19 by polling 160 votes against PDP’s 77.

Although the entire result of the ward has not been released, information indicate that the APC candidate won in the entire ward.

#EdoDecides: Sensitive Voting Materials Missing In Okpella Ward 6

Reports have it that sensitive voting materials are missing in ward 6 of Okpella community in Etsako East local government of Edo State.

The INEC officer in charge of the ward is said to be in dilemma as the electorates has insisted on explanation for the disappearance of the voting material.

Details of the confusion is still under investigation.

The card reader being used for accreditation in Unit 20 Ward 4 at Emokpae primary school has stopped working.

Voters that queued at the unit are now undecided on what to do.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said they have informed their superiors about the malfunction and another card reader is on the way.

The major contenders in the ongoing governorship election in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki of All Progressives Congress, APC and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have taken their campaign battle to the social media.

While Obaseki is selling himself as the best choice for Edo with the campaign hashtag, #Obasekiourchoice, supporters of Ize-Iyamu on the other side are countering the APC led Twitter crusade, with their own campaign, #IzeIyamuwillwin.

#EdoDecides: Abdulmutallab, US Bomber’s Portrait, Name Appears In Voters’ Register

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was jailed in the United States in 2012  for terrorism offences has appeared on the voters’ register in Edo state.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole drew attention to the existence of  AbdulMuttalab’s  portrait in a fake voters register now in circulation.

A high stake governorship election is due in the state tomorrow, with the All Progressives Congress candidate, Godwin Obaseki locked against Pastor Ize Iyamu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Oshiomhole spoke about AbdulMutallab  during a visit to him by the United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr F John Bray.

The Edo governor said he was shocked to see the portrait of the “underwear bomber” in the fake register, but with a Benin name.

Abdulmutallab was convicted of attempting on December 25, 2009. to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear on board an airline from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan.

Governor Oshiomhole who raised concern about the duplication of the voter’s register by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said “the foundation for credible election is the voter’s register. Once the voter’s register is manipulated, then you have problems.
