DSS Mission To Arrest Suspect In Edo Ends In Tragedy

A midnight mission by the Department of Security Service(DSS) operatives to arrest one Omozokpia, over an alleged fraud, has ended up in tragedy in Ekpoma, Edo State, with the killing of his father, Christopher Irabor, who was a potter in the School of Medicine, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma,

According to Sun ,the victim was allegedly shot inside his room when the officials stormed his residence at Uwene quarters of Illeh village in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government.
The operatives, who came from Benin City, were on the trail of Omozokpia.
According to Christopher’s widow, Faith, the DSS men came to their house at about 12 midnight and
forced everybody outside.

She sad her husband held the door to their room to prevent the security operatives from gaining entry, but they were overpowered.

Mrs Irabor narrated that one of the DSS officials shoved a gun into her husband and she heard a loud bang after which her husband fell in a pool of blood.
She said the operatives shot sporadically and later took away her younger son because Omozokpia, the first son they came for, was not at home.

However, a DSS operative who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the late potter was shot because he attempted to disarm one of them, adding that the victim first hit one of the men with a cutlass before struggling the gun with him.
He said they got to the residence with the suspect’s friend and when the friend knocked, occupants of the building refused to open the door.
According to him, they broke in and started assembling occupants in the house, but those in a particular room refused to come out, explaining that it was when they attempted to break into the room that the landlord used a cutlass on one of them and attempted to collect the gun, prompting then to shoot.

PDP Crisis Intensifies As Staff Lay Siege, DSS Storms Secretariat

The national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was Monday almost turned into a battle ground as the staff members laid siege at the premises, spoiling for war with members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Reports gathered made members of the NWC to stay away from the party’s headquarters, for fear of being attacked by the aggrieved workers. Following the mounting tension, operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) stormed the party’s national secretariat, obviously to assess situation on ground.

Three of the DSS officials were sighted at the premises at about 12.15p.m., when they went upstairs and stayed for over 30 minutes as the directors were meeting with leaders of the aggrieved workers. The DSS officials left the party premises shortly afterwards.

It was further gathered that the NWC had resolved to dialogue with the aggrieved staff, following the meeting held by the party directors with leaders of the workers’ welfare committee at the party’s national secretariat yesterday.

A  member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, said the problem started when some workers were brought into the party by their godfathers who had since defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The fear at the party headquarters is that these workers, who owe allegiance to the godfathers that facilitated their employment in the PDP will be passing sensitive information and documents to their godfathers in the APC,” he said.

Director General Of The DSS, Lawal Daura Is An APC Member – PDP

Press statement from the PDP…

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its meeting today thoroughly considered a number of very important issues pertaining to the state of affairs in our nation.

The NWC brings to the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to some disturbing development in the polity which, if not nipped in the bud, might significantly affect our democracy and stability as a nation negatively, and that is the growing and unwarranted intrusion of some over-zealous security operatives on issues bordering purely on politics.

In particular, the NWC wishes to draw the attention of the President to the continued intimidation, harassment as well as the hounding, arrest and detention of Electoral Officers and members of election tribunals by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other PDP states.

The NWC notes that this unfortunate development has been the case since the appointment of the new Director General of the DSS, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, whom we learnt was a critical intelligence stakeholder of the APC as a card-carrying member of that party during the campaigns. This is ungodly and unacceptable.

We do hope that in his new job, the Director General of DSS is not mixing issues on the APC presidential candidate and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hence the need for Mr. President to rein him in as the development is capable of eroding the cherished independence of the judiciary and the electoral commission, a sine qua non for a virile democracy, which guarantees our unity and stability as a nation.

Similarly, we urge Mr. President to take a critical look at the issue of the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as Acting Chairman of INEC for which our party has severally raised some salient issues why she is not suitable for that position. It is incontrovertible that Mrs. Zakari by virtue of her blood relationship with Mr. President cannot preside over the affairs of an Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nigeria belongs to all of us irrespective of political, religious and ethnic affiliation and as a responsible political party we shall not fold our hands and watch while our nation drift along dangerous line.

Furthermore, the NWC commends and congratulates the PDP caucuses in the Senate and the House of Representatives on the smooth emergence of the Minority leadership in the National Assembly. We note that the process was without any interferences whatsoever from the leadership of our great party in keeping with the dictates of the independence of the legislature.

Finally, the NWC deliberated on the state of the party in Ekiti State and resolved that it only recognizes the state Exco led by Chief Idowu Faleye. The NWC however summons all critical stakeholders in the party administration in Ekiti State to a meeting with the national leadership on the issues in the state chapter.

DSS Probe Of Rivers REC In Order – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has thrown its weight behind the current probe of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Gesila Khan, by the Department of State Security (DSS).

The party in a statement by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, berated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for seeking to stop the DSS from carrying out its constitutional duties because of its well-known dalliance with Mrs. Khan.

“By petitioning the DSS over the probe of Mrs. Gesila Khan, the PDP Reps have publicly exposed the unholy alliance between their party and REC Khan, of which we have been crying even before the March 28 and April 11 elections, in which she brazenly took sides with PDP and worked overzealously to return the party’s candidates for all the positions so as to justify the huge sums of money she collected from the then ruling party and please her relation, the then president Goodluck Jonathan,” Rivers APC said.

The party in the statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt pointed out that if for nothing REC Khan should explain the source of the humongous sum of N700m reportedly found in her account which suspect must be funds the Jonathan Presidency and Candidate Nyesom Wike paid out to the woman to buy the mandate of Rivers people in the last general elections. Sadly, they did not tutor her well enough on how to deal with such huge amount of money.

The party further stated that Under the new dispensation, the law is not a respecter of individuals, stressing that Mrs. Khan and some of her key staff invited for questioning by the DSS are not above the law. “If they are sure of the results of the elections in Rivers State, all they need to do is to report to the DSS and prove their innocence,” Rivers APC said. It lambasted the Rivers Federal Lawmakers, saying: “The petitioners here are beneficiaries of the alleged crime perpetrated by REC Khan and her INEC collaborators, so they have no moral justification to protest. Since when did the Reps become defenders of INEC officials?”

According to Rivers APC, “If Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), former National Security Adviser, former ADC to one-time Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), a scion of the royal caliphate in Sokoto, can be investigated by the DSS, then why the cry over the move to investigate Mrs. Khan and her collaborators? Are they bigger than Gordon Obuah, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Chief Security Officer, who is also being investigated by the DSS despite being a senior DSS official and still in service?”

The party advised PDP to come to terms with the fact that it is a new dawn in Nigeria and that everyone should be prepared at all times to defend his or her stewardship. “Power has CHANGED hands for good and no one is a sacred cow. Even President Buhari has made it clear that NO ONE SHALL ESCAPE JUSTICE,” Rivers APC stated.

Charge Jonathan’s CSO To Court Or Release Him – Lawyer

Andrew Itsekiri, the lawyer of Gordon Obuah, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s chief security officer, has asked the Director General of the SSS, Lawan Daura, to either charge Mr. Obuah to court or release him without further delay.

Mr. Obuah is being detained by the State Security Service although the service has yet to officially speak about the arrest.

In a statement, Mr. Itsekiri said Mr. Obuah is held without a charge and his continued detention by the SSS is placing life-threatening strain on his health. He said Mr. Obuah, who is diabetic and has a serious case of high blood pressure is being “sadistically” denied water, food and life sustaining medications. Continue…

Mr. Itsekiri also said family members and friends of Mr. Obuah have been prevented from seeing him.

Mr. Itsekiri explained that Mr. Obuah’s ordeal began a week before he was detained by the SSS. He said Mr. Daura told his client to report daily to the SSS headquarters for questioning over an allegation, the nature of which was never disclosed to him.

He said he was eventually detained last Thursday after he showed up at the SSS office for the daily questioning. Mr. Itsekiri explained that before Mr. Obuah was finally detained, Mr. Daura had asked him if Mr. Obuah wanted him to personally investigate him or delegate a junior officer to do so.

Since the news of the arrest and detention of Mr. Obuah broke last week, the SSS has yet to issue a statement on why he is being held.

DSS Arrests Radio Biafra Engineer

A major accomplice of rogue broadcaster Radio Biafra, an engineer based in Enugu has been apprehended by the Department of State Security operatives. The suspect as Daily Sun exclusively gathered yesterday was being transported to Abuja as at Press time of filling this report.

It is believed that the Enugu-based accomplice assisted the main radio pirate in London by placing not so large equipment on abandoned NITEL transmission polls and a few transmitters owned by other mobile telecom providers.

This is even as the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Emeka Mba, in an exclusive chat with Daily Sun on the issue, said the satellite signals from the malicious station
will be blocked from reaching Nigeria by the end of yesterday (Thursday).

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information, Shade Yemi-Esan, had on Wednesday told State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that NBC had successfully jammed the signals of station.

Mba, who declined comment on the arrest of the accomplice of the radio station which he said sent signals to Nigeria through a London-based content provider, however, noted that beyond jamming the signals, once it is discovered to have hacked into a Nigerian station, the commission was optimistic of completely cutting off its ability to broadcast in the country via satellite yesterday.

He denied the rumor that the commission was slow at clamping down on the station which he described as broadcasting nonsensical garbage. The NBC had to “catch the station in the act” before taking action.

He said: “When they were broadcasting on the internet it was not much an issue, until they started appropriating FM frequencies in various cities across the South East and it became for us an urgent national security matter. We had to trace them. They are using more sophisticated equipment and we had to upgrade our own equipment to track them. To be honest it was difficult dealing with them because they are on satellite and while we are able to neutralise the terrestrial frequencies on the FM band, satellite is very a different thing, and they are outside Nigeria where you have different protocols with how you deal with this issue. They also online and you know how difficult it is to deal with this kind of thing online.

“But then again they are as using what we call frequency agile transmitters through which they hop from one frequency to another. So once you block them in one frequency, they move to another. So what we have done is to upgrade our capacity to follow and block them where ever they are transmitting. To give you and instance, they were transmitting through 104.7 FM Enugu yesterday (Wednesday), they moved to 102.1 FM Enugu and we also jammed it. This is why it is more important for us to catch them than the process of jamming.

“I can assure everyone that these people will be caught and we will support the security agencies to ensure that they face the full wrath of the law. It is no longer a matter of running a pirate station. It is now a matter of subverting the state. There is a possibility of it becoming a matter of sedition as some of the content of the broadcast is declaring war on Nigeria. Our job at the NBC is to use our technical capacity to ensure that we are able to neutralise them wherever they crop up. I am confident that before the end of today we should be able to take them off satellite. This will deal a major blow to their ability to send signal to Nigeria from where they are based abroad.

President Buhari’s ADC Orders DSS Operatives Out Of Presidential Villa

The inter agency rivalry between the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army came to head, yesterday, as the Aide de Camp to the President, Lt. Col Abubakar Lawal ordered personnel of the DSS out of the villa.

The incidence which happened at the residence of the President at the Presidential Villa was extended to all other points that had been manned by the personnel of the DSS.

But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said what happened was a realignment of security around the President which entailed that members of the armed forces would man the inner perimeter of the President security while operatives of the DSS would man the outer perimeter.

It will be recalled that since assuming office as the President, there has been an intense rivalry
between DSS personnel and the army over who is to provide close body security to the president.

Some members of the armed forces were drafted from the Infantry Corps to the villa after the inauguration of President Buhari to man all the strategic points at the villa, a move that was resisted by the DSS personnel who had constitutionally provided close body protection to the President.

The issue, however, came to a head yesterday evening when the ADC to the president ordered members of the DSS at the Presidential Villa to hand over to men of the Nigerian Army.

The directive, however, almost caused an altercation between the army and men of the DSS whose chain of command is different.

It took the intervention of the Chief Security Officer who directed his men to “stand down,” a euphemism for complying with the directive of the ADC.

According to a soldier who was present at the incidence, “the ADC directed that they should hand over to us and leave the villa. We have now taken over fully as directed by the ADC and we are in charge.”

Already, military personnel have taken over all the strategic points at the villa with a firm instruction that no DSS personnel should be  allowed into the villa.

This is the first time that the DSS which has the professional capability and capacity would be striped of its constitutional responsibility of providing close bodyguard protection to the President and his immediate family.

But reacting to Vanguard enquiry, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Adesina said the action was part of  a realignment of the security apparatus around the President.

According to him, what happened is a realignment of security personnel from various services, saying: ”Rumours that personnel of the Department State Services have been expelled from the Presidential Villa are unfounded. President Muhammadu Buhari has given no such order.

Military To Take Over Aso Rock’s Strike Force

Ahead of the relocation of President Muhammadu Buhari to the Presidential Villa, arrangements have been concluded for the Nigerian military to take over the activities of the Strike Force, The PUNCH has learnt.

The Strike Force, which is a special security outfit saddled with the responsibility of protecting the President and the seat of power, is currently comprising only officials of the Department of State Services.

A top Presidency official, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent on Tuesday that soldiers
might take over their responsibility very soon.

The source said a Lieutenant who will be leading 21 other military personnel had already been transferred to the Strike Force with an instruction to take over from the DSS officials.

He said, “DSS officials are the ones that have been serving in the Strike Force. “With this development military personnel will take over from them henceforth.

“We are aware that the situation is causing a palpable tension as there is a possibility of a showdown. But we are working hard to ensure that the situation did not degenerate.”

Operatives attached to the Strike Force are always trained abroad on counter-assault and other techniques aimed at making their jobs easier.

In explaining their duties, the source said its operatives were the ones former President Olusegun Obasanjo erroneously referred to as snippers in his widely-publicised open letter to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Another official, who is aware of the arrangement, also said that machinery had also been put in place to change the new Presidential Villa’s Administrative Officer, who was deployed by the DSS about two weeks ago and replaced with a military officer.

He said all DSS officials currently serving inside the Presidential Villa were not sure of their fate yet.

“The truth is that we are not sure of anything yet. Whichever way, we will only act based on signals from our headquarters whether to leave or remain inside the Villa,” he said.

Meanwhile, a major disagreement broke out on Friday between DSS officials drafted from the Presidential Villa, Abuja to the National Mosque, Abuja and some officials of a private security firm.

The PUNCH had reported last week that DSS officials were having a running battle with officials of the security outfit who were reported to have been securing Buhari before he was inaugurated as the President on May 29.

Their two earlier encounters in the same mosque were settled amicably with officials of the firm asked to leave the premises for DSS officials.

Our correspondent, however, learnt that trouble started again last Friday when DSS officials also sighted the officials of the private firm in the mosque.

A source claimed that trouble started when one of the officials of the firm was asked to identify himself.

“The DSS officials had asked the private guard to identify himself. One thing led to the other and the private guard was said to have held the necktie of one of the operatives. That led to a fisticuffs. It took the timely intervention of senior officers for the situation to be brought under control,” the source said.

Buhari Plans Military Shake-up, Angry With DSS – Report

There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may carry out a major shake-up in the top echelons of the military.

It was learnt that service chiefs and other senior officers across the various arms of the military might be relieved of their posts to pave way for new hands.

Findings showed that Buhari would replace the service chiefs with equally experienced officers.

It was gathered that all but one of the military chiefs would be disengaged by the President, while appointing new officers who would be expected to implement the new phase of the war against the
Boko Haram sect in the North-East.

Sources said that there was anxiety in the military over the looming change of guard which is expected to affect all the services, including the Army, Navy, and the Air Force.

It was gathered that the military chiefs were acutely aware of the fate that might befall them, having reached the pinnacle of their career.

A source said that the President may be considering one of the service chiefs to ensure smooth transition between the present military chiefs and their successors.

But another source said this was not likely, noting that the only service chief that might be retained is the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, who was appointed a few months ago by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

One of our correspondents gathered that Buhari would likely appoint his “loyalists” and those he had worked with into top positions.

It was also gathered that Buhari might have made up his mind to use policemen and soldiers as presidential security, while whittling down the influence and presence of the Department of State Services at the Presidential Villa.

It was also learnt that Buhari indicated his preference for policemen and soldiers trained in body guard protection instead of the usual teams of DSS personnel used by his predecessor.

A source said that the President is unhappy with the agency over the “various negative security reports it wrote against him during his struggle to become the President, including the report on the recent certificate saga.”

Security sources said the rejection of 253 DSS operatives by Villa authorities last week was informed by the President’s directive that he did not want the agency’s personnel around him.

One of the sources said, “The President has yet to forgive the DSS for what he sees as its antagonism against him before the last general elections. So, the President has decided to keep the agency at arm’s length and for his security, he will be using policemen and soldiers.”

The source added that though a DSS operative would still occupy the post of the Chief Security Officer of the villa, “the CSO will be a mere figure-head because he would have no control over the security at the villa.”

Further findings showed that since Buhari was sworn in, information about his itinerary and schedules were no longer passed to the DSS as is the tradition under the former President.

Our correspondents learnt that under the last administration, the CSO would always be informed about the President’s movement and daily itinerary, but this was said to have changed since Buhari assumed office. Presently, it was gathered, it is only the President’s Aide-de-Camp that knows Buhari’s daily schedule and the CSO had to rely on his contacts within the villa to know the President’s movement.

When contacted, the DSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, had told one of our correspondents earlier in the week that she could not comment on the issue of posting of the service officers at the villa.

“I don’t have such information and I cannot comment on it,” she said.

Also, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Sheu, declined to comment on the issues of appointment.

He said Buhari could not make any pronouncement on appointments or any other issue until he received the report of his transition committee.

Shehu recalled that Jonathan submitted its handover note to Buhari on the eve of his (Jonathan) exit from office.

He said the President thereafter handed over the note to a committee led by Ahmed Joda to study and make recommendations.

He added, “The Joda committee was given two weeks to study Jonathan’s handover note and make recommendations.

“This committee just finished its assignment on Wednesday evening and may present its recommendations to the President on Friday.”

Mani’s appointment was announced by the director general of the DSS Ita Ekpenyong last week when he paid a courtesy call to Buhari.

Mani’s appointment also came with accelerated promotion by the secret service.

INEC PVCs- DSS arrests Sani Musa ,Owner Of ACT technologies

The officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested Sani Musa, the owner of the company, ACT Technologies Ltd…Though no reason was given for his arrest,Thisday reports that,it may not be unconnected with the controversy trailing the production and supply of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the 2015 general elections.

Sani was arrested at a private location in Abuja and Thisday was told his arrest may not be connected with the allegation that he is a member of the APC and only him has the code to the smart card reader.

According to a source, his arrest by the DSS was to try to solve some of the controversies over the Card Reader and make him incommunicado throughout the Presidential Election.

Only on Wednesday, the spokesman of the PDP Presidential Campaigns, Femi Fani Kayode, called for his arrest, accusing him of being part of the plot to rig the election in favour of APC.

According to Fani Kayode, “Our concerns stem from the fact that the moving spirit and a major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the card reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Mohammadu Buhari and the APC. That man’s name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company’s name is Act Technologies Ltd. and the Chairman of the company is one Engineer SK Danladi.

“How and why INEC would give the contract to supply the card readers to a fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices, needs to be explained. Sani Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and General Buhari and his hatred and virulent opposition to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan openly and publicly on his Facebook wall.”

DSS Uncovers Plot To Announce Election Results Before INEC

The Department of State Service has uncovered plans by some persons to announce election results ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, warning Nigerians and international observers to disregard any such announcement.

The DSS made this known yesterday in a statement signed by the Service spokesman, Marilyn Ogar and made available to LEADERSHIP Friday, in which she warned Nigerians who have no business with the elections to stay away from polling centres.

“Information at the disposal of this Service has revealed that certain mischievous persons or groups have concluded plans to announce election results before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concludes its collation exercise.

“This statement therefore is to advice all citizens of Nigeria, election observers and the International community to disregard election results which are not announced by INEC, as the commission remains the only authentic body authorized to do so.

“Once more, we reiterate our call on all eligible voters to come out and exercise their franchise as security is guaranteed. We also want to seize this opportunity to remind voters to remain vigilant and to warn all those who have no business with the electoral process to keep away from Polling Units and Collation Centres,” Ogar said

DSS Invites Pastor Musa-Dikwa Who Claimed Jonathan Gave N7bn to CAN

A Borno-based Pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, who claimed that the money given to Pastors by the President Goodluck Jonathan was actually N7billion and not N6billion as alleged by Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has been invited by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Report provides that Pastor Dikwa said: “I have just been invited by the DSS. On my way to Abuja.”

Dikwa’s allegation had caused a stir among the Christian clerics, with the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the Northern State Christian Elders Forum asking him to name the church leaders, who collected the huge bribe.

Be Very Vigilant As Boko Haram Plans Attack On Civilians, DSS Urges Public

The Department of State Services (DSS), has advised the public to be vigilant in crowded environment, especially when travelling as fleeing insurgents have resorted to attacking hapless civilians and soft targets.

The advice is contained in a statement issued by Marilyn Ogar, the spokesperson of the service on Friday.

The statement also advised commuters to desist from boarding unmarked vehicles along the road and only use designated motor parks.

It said the insurgents were in disarray following sustained offensive against them by troops in the North-East and they had resorted to vent their anger on civilians.

The statement added that the sustained attacks also accounted for the spate of attacks recorded recently in Yobe, Kano, Borno and Plateau states with intent of distracting security forces.

“We also reiterate our call on motor park managers to ensure proper screening of vehicles, persons and luggage entering their premises.

“They should also look out for new faces, who show up as drivers and conductors.

“Similarly, we want to encourage residents of recaptured towns and communities to return to their homes,” it said.

The statement called on people relocating from one part of the country to the other because of the forthcoming elections to desist from doing so.

“Adequate steps have been taken by security forces to guarantee security of lives and property,” it said.

It urged those with useful information of “untoward activities in their localities” to forward same to security agencies, adding that the security agencies were determined to end the activities of the terrorists.

DSS Invites Dokubo Over Inflammatory Statements

Department of State Services (DSS), said on Thursday that it had invited Mr Asari Dokubo, an ex-Niger Delta militant, several times over recent inflammatory statements credited to him.

The spokeswoman of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar, said this on Thursday while responding to a question at a news conference organised by the National Information Centre.

“First of all, whatever is the operational procedures that we take after we have issued out warnings, we do not make them public. And I want you to recollect that Asari Dokubo has been brought into the office – DSS, a couple of times. It is not in the position of the office to begin to tell you who has been brought in or who has not been brought in.

“We still stand by our words that whoever in any way would want to interfere or interrupt the peace that prevails, he or she would definitely be dealt with,’’ Ogar said.

APC Planned to Hack into INEC Database— DSS

The Department of State Services, DSS, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of an elaborate plot to hack into the voters registration data base of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. It alleged that the purpose was to clone voters and party membership cards to match those in the data base.

The DSS claim was based on what it allegedly recovered from the invasion of the APC data centre in Lagos on November 22, 2014.

The charges were immediately rebuffed, by the APC which described the findings as hogwash, a “disservice to Nigeria and an embarrassment to all intelligence-gathering organizations around the world.”

Revealing the alleged findings from the outcome of its investigations, DSS spokesperson Marilyn Ogar, at a press conference in Abuja, said its operatives recovered a computer hard drive containing a video of 21 hacking tutorials during the raids on the APC centre located at 10 Bola Ajibola Street, Ikeja, Lagos State.

Ogar, a deputy director, Public Relations in the DSS, said the tutorial video focused on how to become a hacker and steps to take to avoid detection in the process of hacking web servers.

Ogar also alleged that the video explained how to hack into the systems of media houses, with the purpose of broadcasting fake stories or headlines.

She said the DSS also discovered that the APC registered under-aged persons including several infants and babies, foreigners and security personnel as members of the party.

Court Orders Immediate Release Of Detained APC Workers

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered immediate release of five employees of the Data Centre of All Progressives Congress (APC), who were arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) on November 22, 2014.

Chinedu Atuche, Fayemi Olaposi, Augustine Onuchukwu, Ebun Ilori and Esther Enemy – all APC workers, were arrested by DSS operatives and police during a raid on a building which the APC said was its data office at Allen Avenue in Lagos.

But Justice Mohammed Yunusa, who ordered the release, equally restrained the DSS from further arresting the five employees pending the hearing and determination of a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the APC.

The judge, after entertaining arguments from lawyers on both sides, held that it was unjustifiable for the workers to have been detained beyond the period prescribed by Section 35 of the Constitution, without being charged to court.

Justice Yunusa ruled that the DSS could no longer continue to detain the applicants without filing a charge against them or bringing them before a competent court.

The matter was consequently adjourned to January 19, 2015.

Despite the ruling, it was gathered that DSS officials went away with the APC workers, who were produced in court as ordered by the judge.

The applicants – the APC and the detained staff – had filed an action before the court seeking an enforcement of their fundamental rights.
