EFCC To Dock Ex-Works Minister, Ogunlewe For Alleged Fraud

Three principal officers of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, including the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, will on Friday appear in court on fraud charges.

The third person to be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a Federal High Court, Ibadan, is the institution’s Bursar, Mr Moses Ilesanmi.

Ogunlewe, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is a former Minister of Works.

A top official of the commission confirmed the development to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.

The source said that the trio would be docked on an 18-count charge bordering on stealing, abuse of office and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to him, the three men have been subject of investigation in an alleged case of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds.

Sources had earlier told NAN that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday morning following a petition written against them by the institution’s chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities in August.

EFCC To Dock Moro On 11-Count Charge

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finalized plans to arraign the former minister of interior Abba Moro on 11 count charges, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
According to EFCC sources Moro ?may be docked bordering on obtaining by false pretence, procurement fraud and money laundering.

 

It was gathered that Moro, Anastasia Daniel Nwobia, F. O Alayebami, Mahmood Ahmadu(At large) and Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd allegedly defrauding a total of 676, 675,000 Nigerian applicants to the tune of N676,675,000 representing N1000 per applicant through e-payment for their online recruitment exercise into the Nigerian Immigration Service on March 17, 2013.

The suspects are alleged to have contravened the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 in the contract awards by not following the necessary procedure laid down by the government.

The award of the contract to Drexel Tech Nig Ltd was said to have had no prior advertisement, no needs assessment and a procurement plan and was not carried out before award of the contract.

According to sources ?the contract was awarded through selective tendering procedure by invitation of four firms without seeking approval of Bureau for Public Procurement contrary to sections 40, 42 and 43 of the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 and punishable under section 58 of the same act.

EFCC Arrests 2 Tourism Travel Agents Over Alleged N70 Million Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two officials of a travel agency for allegedly swindling and defrauding several Nigerians to the tune of N70 million.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
It stated that the two officials, Mr Banabas Magi, an accountant and Mr Owoseli Samuel, General Manager of the agency were arrested on Monday and had since been detained by the commission.

According to the statement, victims of the travel agency had on June 5, petitioned the EFCC, alleging that they have been defrauded by the company.
It explained that the travel agency claims to provide tourism services to Nigerians by providing holiday vacation, including accommodation to them at resorts in some designated countries.
It stated that the petitioners also accused the agency of deceiving them through marketers into parting with their money for promised trip overseas that never materialised. It stated that the two officials were granted provisional bail by the commission but were yet to meet the terms.
