Buhari Departs For Germany Tomorrow

President Muhammadu Buhari will begin an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from tomorrow, 13 October. The visit will end on 16 October.

In Berlin, President Buhari, will confer with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on issues of shared interests between Nigeria and Germany, including further cooperation on security, the humanitarian situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and rehabilitation of the North-East, as well as trade and economic relations between both countries.

Thereafter, the President, who will be accompanied by Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo and representatives of the National Assembly, will meet with Federal President Joachim Gauck.

In furtherance of the administration’s objective to attract more foreign investment and create economic opportunities in the country, President Buhari will participate in a Business Forum in Berlin with leading German companies already active in Nigeria and other prospective investors.

Before returning to Abuja, the President is expected to meet with representatives of the Nigerian community in Germany.

President Buhari is committed to deepening relations with Germany and building on the very cordial relations both countries enjoy in several areas of bilateral cooperation including the fight against terrorism, economic relations, rebuilding of the North east, support for IDPs, vocational training, energy partnership and cultural relations.

Buhari Departs Nigeria For Egypt Tomorrow

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Friday for Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt to participate in the Business for Africa, Egypt and the World Forum.

A statement by the president’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the forum, which opens in the Egyptian resort town on Saturday, is organized by the Egyptian government under the auspices of the African Union Commission.

“The forum’s objective is to accelerate private sector engagement and investment within Africa and promote the development of African ties and partnerships.

“President Buhari, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt and the Presidents of Togo, Sudan, Kenya, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia are among confirmed speakers at the forum.

“Other confirmed speakers include the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and the President/CEO of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.

“The president will be accompanied on the trip by the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama and the minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelama.

“He will return to Abuja at the conclusion of the forum,” said the statement.

Osinbajo Takes Over As Acting President As Buhari Begins Short Vacation

President Mohammadu Buhari has begun a short vacation today. A statement by Special Adviser to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says that while Buhari is away, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President.

The statement added that in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Buhari Departs To Malta Tomorrow For Commonwealth Summit & UN Climate Change Conference

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Thursday for Malta to participate in the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which begins on Friday.

The Commonwealth is made up of Britain, Nigeria and 51 other countries that work together to pursue common goals and promote development, democracy, peace, security and good governance.

President Buhari and other Heads of State and Government, who will be in the Island nation for this year’s summit, are expected to deliberate on fresh Commonwealth initiatives on development and climate change with a view to adding greater value to ongoing global efforts in these areas.

At the summit, a new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, who will take over from the incumbent, Kamalesh Sharma, will be announced.

Buhari’s Aide Departs New York With Ministerial List

In his bid to fulfil the promise to make his ministers known by the end of September, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday handed over the list of his ministerial nominees to his special adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang.

A top Presidency source who is a member of the president’s entourage to the ongoing 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly reliably told our correspondent that the presidential aide departed J. F. Kennedy International Airport in New York last night so as to get to Nigeria and deliver the list to the National Assembly before the promised date.

The source said further that the president who is presently in New York had already briefed the Senate president, Senator Bukola Saraki, on the development, stressing that Ita Enang is expected to hand over the list to either the Senate president today at the resumption of the plenary or tomorrow depending on the mood of the upper legislative chamber.
