Confusion As N2 Billion Is Declared Missing From Rivers State Government House

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has accused the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, of squandering a whopping sum of N2 billion ?of State funds, in supporting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in last Saturday’s Governorship poll, in Ondo State.
The APC, in a statement on Sunday, November 27, and made available to Post-Nigeria, asked Wike to immediately retrieve and return the N2 billion he donated to the Ondo State branch of the PDP.
APC, made the demand on Sunday, through ?the Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Senibo Chris Finebone, in Port Harcourt, ?shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, as winner of the election.“It is unfortunate that Gov. Nyesom Wike is still playing Father Christmas with the commonwealth of Rivers people, for his personal egoistic political voyage, despite that the Governor has cancelled hundreds of overseas scholarships, and the students repatriated home, among other important programmes.
“Agriculture is in its worst state, since Rivers State was created.“Songhai Farm is gone; the Banana Farm at Tai is gone; RSSDA is now a ghost of its former self, with the staff owed 17 months salaries.“The various fish farms at Buguma, Andoni, and other places that provided jobs for thousands of Rivers people, are now history.
“It saddens the heart that our Governor prefers to neglect important matters calling for attention at home, but rather lavish our commonwealth on his personal political pursuits.“Can you imagine that Governor Nyesom Wike, willingly donated a whopping N2 billion to the Ondo State chapter of the PDP?
“It is horrible, mind-boggling, and indefensible. ”Just like in the case of Edo, the PDP has lost, and the Governor should not wait to be reminded to return the N2bn back to the treasury of Rivers State immediately,” the APC demanded.
The party Spokesman speaking further, ?decried the rate at which the Governor, since his assumption of office, has been wasting the resources of the people on matters concerning the PDP, rather than concentrate on frugally applying the State’s resources to the needs of the people of Rivers State.
??”Whereas the PDP has States like Akwa Ibom, and Delta, that collect high monthly federal allocations, it is only Governor Wike that plays the party’s godfather.
“So far, he has wasted billions of Naira, hosting two failed National Conventions of the PDP, in Port Harcourt.“He has profligately donated billions of Naira, belonging to Rivers people to faraway Bayelsa, Edo, and Ondo PDP chapters, for purposes of elections, while medical workers, pensioners, and teachers, are owed back home.
?”Is it that Rivers State has been conquered by a small band of buccaneers, led by Governor Wike, and genuine elders are keeping quiet?” the Party queried.
?Finebone concluding, ?warned that if the Governor did not return the N2 billion he gave out to Ondo PDP, he will be forced to do so at the appropriate time.

Confusion In Abia As Ikpeazu, Ogah Lay Claim To Governorship Seat

Abia State descended into confusion on Thursday following the insistence of Sampson Ogah that he should be sworn in as governor of the state to replace the incumbent, Okezie Ikpeazu, who was sacked by the Federal High Court on Monday.

Mr. Ogah had left Abuja for Umuahia Thursday after he was issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission for his swearing in, expected to be performed by the Chief Judge of the state.

But as he was travelling to Abia, Mr. Okezie obtained an injunction from the High Court of Abia State stopping the Chief Judge of the State, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal and any other judicial officer from swearing in Mr. Ogah as governor.

Both Messrs Okezie Ikpeazu and Ogah are members of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The order made by Justice Chibuzo Ahuchaogu of the Abia High Court said among other things, “Upon this motion ex-parte pursuant to section 143 (1) & (2) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and pending the determination of the motion on notice, after hearing O.O Nkume, counsel to the applicant.”

Apart from the court order, Mr. Ikpeazu also declared Friday and Monday as public holidays in “honour of a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, who died on Wednesday”.

The federal government has already declared Tuesday and Wednesday public holidays to mark the Ed-il-Fitr.

The implication is that the judiciary in Abia State will not open for business until Thursday, July 7, making it impossible for Mr. Ogah to immediately challenge the injunction granted Mr. Ikpeazu.

Confusion Over MTN’s Payment Of N50bn Fine To FG

There was a mild drama yesterday when the Minister of Communication Technology, Adebayo Shittu, distanced the ministry from the negotiation deal which culminated in the payment of N50bn by MTN Nigeria Limited instead of N1.04trn fine imposed on the telecommunications giant by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for SIM deactivation defaults.

Also, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), denied entering any agreement so far with MTN over the fine.

The revelations were made yesterday before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Telecommunications on the heels of the payment of N50bn by MTN to the Federal Government as against as the actual fine imposed on it by the NCC.

The Committee had summoned both ministers, the executive vice chairman of NCC, Prof. Garba Dambatta, and the chief executive officer of MTN over the circumstances surrounding the payment of N50bn by MTN and an alleged offensive letter earlier written to the lawmakers by the MTN CEO.

But the MTN CEO earlier apologised to the committee members and consequently withdrawn the letter as demanded by the lawmakers.

“I will like to say categorically that MTN and I takes this body in high esteem. And I apologise wholeheartedly for not attending the previous meeting. I withdraw the letter the committee is referring to. I beg for your forgiveness,” he said.

For his part, Shittu told the lawmakers that he only got to know about the matter through a letter dated February 3, 2016 addressed to him, Finance Minister and the Accountant-General of the Federation on the settlement proposal by MTN.

Radio Biafra Back On Air, Prays For Confusion In Enemies Camp

Radio Biafra which has been off the air for some time, is currently streaming live across the Nigerian airwaves without Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Checks by an online medium, TheCable revealed that the station is live on Tune In, an Internet radio airing across the world. According to the TheCable, “the radio station has hit the airwaves pushing the same message of “freedom of Biafraland” while condemning the happenings in Nigeria, regarded as a Zoo. Radio Biafra is airing from “30 Sandlings Close, Pilkington Road, London, SE11 3SY England, United Kingdom”.

When TheCable tuned in, the anchor, who was referred to as the new deputy director of the station, was complaining about the state of power and energy resources in the country. After receiving a call from Nigeria to complain that the radio was not being aired via FM in some parts of south east Nigeria, the anchor responded by saying the problem would be resolved.

“There is no problem with our general platform, we would look into it tomorrow. We are not forgetting our leader, Kanu. Lord God almighty, grant our leader protection. Continue to set confusion in the midst of our enemies, grant us total freedom”, he said.

Security agents had earlier arrested suspected masterminds of Radio Biafra, and charging its leader to court for treasonable felony. The signals were also reportedly jammed after initial failed attempts, but the station is still broadcasting on the world wide web, after months off air.

Confusion As Two Lionesses Are On The Loose In Nairobi

Wildlife rangers on Friday hunted for two lions who escaped from Nairobi’s national park and meandered into “highly populated” areas of the Kenyan capital.

Kenya Wildlife Service issued an appeal, “for help to get two lionesses that strayed from the Nairobi National Park.”

Armed rangers, as well as KWS vets with dart guns, scoured bush and agricultural land alongside the Kibera district, one of Africa’s largest slums.

“Lions are dangerous wild animals. Avoid provoking the lions by confronting them,” said KWS spokesman Paul Udoto.

At least two lionesses are reported to have late Thursday left the park, spread over 117 square kilometres (45 square miles) where buffalo and rhino roam just seven kilometres from the bustling high-rise city centre.

Local media reported as many as six lions might be on the loose.

The Internet’s Newest Confusion: Is It A Dog Or A Bear?

A worker at a Tennessee pet business set off a fierce online debate with a picture of a “bear” brought in for doggie day care.

The picture posted to Reddit was captioned, “Somebody brought this bear into doggie day care,” and the photo sparked a fierce debate — in the grand tradition of pointless Internet debates — about whether the animal was a young bear or a cleverly disguised dog.

The debate went on for dozens of comments before being settled by the original poster.

Ryan Horn, a worker at the Dog Spot in Nashville, unmasked himself as the picture’s original author and revealed the animal is in fact a dog — a Pomeranian mix. The Reddit poster admitted he knew the dog’s identity when he started the debate.

Falae’s Abduction: Confusion As Police, DSS Parade Two Sets Of Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) was brought to the fore again yesterday as barely 24 hours after the DSS paraded two suspects in connection with the abduction of the elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae, the police yesterday said they had five suspects in their custody.

Falae was kidnapped by armed men who stormed his farm last September 21, 2015. He was released three days later after his family parted with a ransom of N5 million.

The DSS on Monday paraded two suspects, Babawuro Kato and Abdullahi Usman, who claimed that the abduction of Falae was carried out by a three-man gang, adding however that the mastermind, one Dantito, escaped with the N5 million ransom collected from Falae’s relatives.

Abubakar Garba, who addressed the press on behalf of the DSS, said two of the abductors were arrested by the department’s operatives on October 15 at J. Zebra Hotel along Ganaja Road in Lokoja, Kogi State.

But the Inspector General of Police (IG) Solomon Arase, during the monthly meeting of top police officers at the force headquarters in Abuja yesterday, said the police apprehended five of the eight-man gang which abducted the elder statesman.

He named the suspects to include Abubakar Auta, Idris Lawan, Umar Ibrahim, Masahudu Mohammed and Bello Tanu whom he said operated a statewide kidnapping ring.
