Photojournalist Yinka Adeparusi Confirmed Dead

Ace photojournalist and video editor, Adeyinka Adeparusi, is dead.

According to a report by his employers, NAIJ.com, Adeparusi, was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja. He died on the spot.

The photojournalist who had a stint at The National Mirror newspaper, was last seen at his apartment at Kugbo area of Abuja on Sunday, November 13.

He was however declared missing on Tuesday, when his family, colleagues and friends could not reach him on his cell phone. A report was subsequently lodged at a police station in his area.

His body was discovered in a morgue in Abuja, Tuesday.

The 37-year-old journalist graduated from the Lagos State University, with double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography.

The Ife-Emure-born journalist is a recipient of numerous awards, including the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and photojournalism award at the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011.

First Foreign Victims Confirmed In Istanbul Blasts

An Iranian and a Ukrainian have been confirmed as the first foreign victims in the Istanbul airport suicide attack, a Turkish official said Wednesday.

“I confirm one Iranian and one Ukrainian national have been killed in yesterday’s terror attack,” the official told reporters on condition of anonymity.

At least 36 people died in Tuesday night’s triple suicide bombing at Ataturk airport, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said early Wednesday.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi as saying five Iranian nationals had been injured in addition to the person killed. Iranian Foreign Minister Javed Zarif tweeted on Tuesday night: “Terror rears its ugly head yet again in our friend & neighbor’s airport.

“Extremist violence is a global threat; we must confront it together.” The Ukrainian foreign ministry said a female Ukranian was killed and another national injured.

Calabar CBN Gas Explosion: Four Victims Confirmed Dead

At least four victims of last Friday’s gas explosion at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s office in Calabar have been confirmed dead out of 15 taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Doctors said the degree of damage meted on them by the explosion led to their death.

The Chief Medical Director of UCTH, Dr Thomas Agan, confirmed their death when reporters were at the hospital to get get an update on the present state of the victims.

It was a dark Friday for Staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Calabar Branch when a gas explosion rocked the financial building, leaving scores in critical condition and others dead.

The casualties were rushed to the UCTH, General hospital as well as the Nigerian Navy Hospital.

Other patients are lying in critical condition at the UCTH and the General Hospital, with lots of internal and facial injuries as a result of inhaling the fumes from the blast. The doctors said they are responding to treatment.

Dr Agan said, the CBN boss and other staff had so far been supportive, as their visits to the hospital had given the victims hope.

“They look forward to getting back on their feet in the shortest possible time,” he said.

He assured reporters that, the hospital would put in their best in ensuring that, the condition of the remaining victims improved.

First Case Of Lassa Fever Confirmed In Delta

The Ministry of Health in Delta on Monday announced that it had confirmed the first case of Lassa fever in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr. Churchill Oyewo, Public Relations Officer of the ministry and issued to newsmen in Asaba.

The statement said that the index case occurred after a 65-year-old woman from neigbouring Anambra was admitted at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Asaba.

It said that the woman was referred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, when her conditioned worsened.

The statement said that the case was later confirmed as Lassa fever at the Virology Laboratory, Specialist Hospital, Irrua, Edo.

Lassa Fever Confirmed In Lagos

One case of Lassa fever has been confirmed in Lagos. The case, which was diagnosed at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, involves a 25-year-old student from the Ahmadu Bello University.

The patient is said to have been admitted first at a private hospital in Ojokoro area of Lagos State.

According to the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, the patient is responding to treatment.

The death of a Lassa Fever victim at the National Hospital in Abuja, the nation’s capital, had brought the total number of deaths to 43 in the country, from 10 states.

Announcing the death at the National Hospital on Wednesday, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, called on Health workers at all levels to be more vigilant and look out for patients with symptoms of Lassa Fever.

Katsina Mosque Bomb Blast Confirmed, Suspect Nabbed With Explosive Remnants

Explosion rocked a mosque at Yartabki village near the headquarters of Funtua local government in Katsina State on Tuesday.

The state’s police public relations officer, Aminu Saqiq, confirmed the incident to the New Agency of Nigeria. But said no one was injured in the incident.

The police spokesman said a suspect had been arrested, disclosing that two mobile cell phones and remnants of the explosives were also recovered.

He added that the recovered items were being ascertained by experts.The worshippers, who were reportedly scared after spotting a black polythene bag inside the mosque, informed the police, but the explosives detonated before the arrival of the security team.

According to NAN, the paint on the wall and carpets of the mosque got burnt.

Mecca Crane Crash: 6 Nigerians Confirmed Dead, 4 Missing

Six Nigerian pilgrims have been confirmed dead while four have been declared missing in the crane accident which took place in a Mosque in Kaabah, Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Friday. The deceased, it was learnt on Sunday, had been buried in Saudi Arabia.

The spokesperson for National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Mr. Uba Mana, confirmed the death of the six Nigerians in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday.

He said, “There are six Nigerians that lost their lives; in Islam, you don’t bring corpses back home. You bury them where they died. Preparations are on the way for their burial as I speak with you now. But I’m sure they will be buried here (Saudi Arabia).”

The News Agency of Nigeria also reported on Sunday that four female pilgrims from Gombe State had been declared  missing following the crash. One other female pilgrim got injured during the incident.
