Celine Dion Says That Her Late Husband Is The Only Man She’s Ever Kissed

Celine Dion has us feeling all of the feelings once again, talking about her late husband René Angélil, who died this last January after a long battle with throat cancer.

During an interview with CBS’s Mo Rocca, the singer shared that Angélil, her husband of 21 years, is the only man she has ever kissed in her entire life.

“Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us,” Dion said. “For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved. Yeah. I never kissed another man in my life. So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering, I said to myself, he’s okay. And he deserves not to suffer.”

The couple had been together since Dion was 19 years old. After several years of quietly dating, Dion eventually revealed her love for him in the liner notes of her 1993 album The Colour of My Love and they married in a lavish wedding in 1994.

When Rocca asked her if she hoped to fall in love again in the future, she said, “not now.”

“I’m still in love with him,” she explained. “And I have the love of my children. I have the love of my fans. I love the people that I work with. So my life is not empty of love.”

Celine Dion Has Another Family Member Struggling With Cancer

Earlier this year, Celine Dion mourned the loss of her husband, René Angélil, who died after a long fight with cancer. And only two days after that, her brother, Daniel, also succumbed to cancer. Now, several months later, the music icon is reportedly dealing with another family member fighting the disease.

According to WENN.com, Dion’s sister, Claudette, told Echos Vedettes magazine that their sister Liette’s husband, Guy Poirier, is being treated for cancer that has spread to his lungs, brain, and bones. (Celine has 12 brothers and sisters.) Poirier is being treated at the Maison Adhemar-Dion, a palliative care facility named after Dion’s father, who died of bone cancer in 2003.

“My brother-in-law is at the Maison Adhemar-Dion and he is still conscious,” she told the magazine. “My sister (Liette) is with him and she is very strong. People of the Maison are angels and they are taking very good care of our brother-in-law.” The family is asking for any well-wishers to donate to the facility.

Dion is doing her best to jump back into her career and show strength after loss. She has been continuing her Las Vegas residency, touring around the world, and recording new music since her husband’s death. “I feel fulfilled because I was with the best man,” she told the Montreal Gazette. “He gave me so much knowledge. And he gave me three magnificent children and I look at them and I see him every day.”

Celine Dion Loses Husband To Cancer

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil, who discovered the Canadian pop diva and long managed her career, died Thursday aged 73 after a struggle with cancer.

Dion announced his passing in a Twitter message, saying: “Rene Angelil passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer.”

A spokesman for the singer, Marc Olivier, said more information would be given in the coming days, but for now the family wished to be left to mourn in private.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted his condolences to Dion and to Angelil’s six children, including three from a previous marriage.

Born in Montreal to Lebanese-Syrian immigrants, Angelil started out in music dabbling in yeye — French 60s music — before trying his hand at comedy, and finally settling on a career in music management.

As a talent agent, he signed one of the biggest names in Quebec music, Ginette Reno, but the arrangement ended abruptly in 1981, leaving Angelil destitute and desperate.

At age 12, Dion had recorded a demo tape with her mother and sent it to Angelil. He was so struck by her voice that he signed her to an exclusive management contract — mortgaging his house to finance her debut album.

Celine Dion Reveals The Secret Of Her Successful Marriage

Since marrying René Angélil in 1994, Celine Dion has stuck to the vows of in sickness and in health as she has been by her husband’s side throughout his battle with throat cancer. And for the singer, she insists she will be there until the end.

The 47-year-old has bravely opened up about how she and her family are coping with René’s illness and explained why she is returning to her Las Vegas residency now following a year-long hiatus. “I didn’t want to be here at first, I don’t need it. Don’t get me wrong, I love singing for people, but I have priorities,” Celine told USA Today of her return to Las Vegas. “But René really gave me a gift. All my grieving, it was during this last year. I think I’ve got this. For now. When it hits me, it’s going to hit me. But my biggest job is to tell my husband, we’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.”

René was diagnosed with throat cancer in December 2013. It is the second time the music manager has battled cancer, but sadly this time it appears René is fighting for his life. “We have asked (doctors) many times, how long does he have, three weeks, three months? René wants to know. But they say they don’t know,” Celine explained.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer says that she and her husband have had many emotional conversations over the past months with René sharing his greatest fears and wishes for the future: “I’ll say, ‘You’re scared? I understand. Talk to me about it,'” Celine confided. “And René says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms. ‘OK, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms.”
