It’s been a good weekend for fans of Frank Ocean, who has released two albums since Thursday — but it’s been a long wait, one he vaguely acknowledged in a note posted to his Tumblr.
“I had the time of my life making all of this,” he wrote. “Thank you all. Especially those of you who never let me forget I had to finish. Which is basically every one of ya’ll. Haha. Love you.”
By “all of this,” Ocean’s referring to visual album Endless, released Thursday, and Blonde, a collection that dropped Saturday. He also released a Boys Don’t Cry magazine at pop-up shops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and London Saturday. A car-themed excerpt from the magazine is now available on his Tumblr.
These records are the first Ocean’s put out since 2012’s beloved Channel Orange. He’s been teasing new music for over a year now, and Channel Orange producer Malay Ho recently addressed the holdup in a Reddit AMA.
“To be fair, art cannot be rushed,” he said. “It’s about making sure the perfect aesthetic for the situation has been reached, to do that, takes constant tweaking, trial and error… That goes for any creative [situation].”
Endless is now available to stream on Apple Music, while Blonde is available both to stream on the service and for purchase on iTunes.
