Report: Banker who allegedly hired assassins to murder husband gets bail.

A Lagos banker, Oluchi Tockukwu Onyebuchi, who allegedly hired two assassins to murder her husband, was on Tuesday granted N1 million bail by an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Magistrate M.O. Olajuwon also ordered that the two alleged hired assassins, Chigozie Nworie (32) and Kingsley Ofelete (36), be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

The prosecutor, Insp. Julius Babatope, told the court that Onyebuchi, 32, contracted Nworie and Ofelete to assassinate her husband on October 9 at No. 18, Fatai Kofo St., Agungi, Lekki.

“Onyebuchi had informed the two accused on where she had hidden machete, cutlass and acid in her husband’s compound which they were to use in eliminating him.”

Babatope said that Nworie and Ofelete were arrested with the victim’s bloodstained Range Rover on their way to deliver the car to Onyebuchi’s brother in Anambra.

The trio are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, robbery and attempted murder. The accused plea was, however, not taken. The offences committed contravene Sections 228, 294 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Olajuwon adjourned the case to January 23, pending legal advice from the DPP.

‘Banker Hires Assassins to Kill Her ex-Husband in Lagos’

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected hired-assassins and a female banker over failed attempt to assassinate her ex-husband identified as Tochukwu Onyebuchi.

The banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, and the two assassins arrested by the Ogun State Police Command

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

He said the banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, hired the suspected criminals to assassinate her husband in his residence at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

Iliyasu named the two suspected assassins as Chigozie Smart (32) and Kingsley Ikechukwu (36).

He said they were intercepted and arrested on Oct. 19 at Ijebu-Ode while attempting to escape to Onitsha with the victim’s Range Rover Jeep.

He said Oluchi was arrested at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

He said, “One Oluchi, a 32-year-old banker, who is married to one Tochukwu Onyebuchi years ago, got separated from her husband following some matrimonial problems.

“The custody of their only child is currently being contested in the court but Oluchi has another plan.

“She connived with the trio of Chigozie Smart, Kingsley Ikechukwy and one other who is now at large to eliminate her husband.

“She arranged for the weapons which includes cutlass, iron rods and acid which she kept in her husband’s compound at Ayobo area of Lagos State and described where she kept it to the assailants.

“The suspects went there on Wednesday as planned and matcheted the man severally on his head and poured the acid on him.

“The suspects thereafter abandoned the victim and took away his range Rover Jeep which Oluchi instructed them to drop at her brother’s place in Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Luck ran against them when a patrol team of the Ogun State command on Wednesday sighted the vehicle along the Ijebu-Ode/Benin expressway and stopped it for search.

“While searching the vehicle, blood stain was seen and the two occupants were unable to give satisfactory account of the blood stain, hence, they were arrested.

“It was during interrogation that the suspects revealed all that transpired to the police.”

The commissioner said that the victim, who had been treated at an undisclosed hospital, was in the custody of the police helping them in the process of investigation.

Oluchi, however, denied contracting the duo of Chigozie and Kingsley and one other at large to assassinate her husband.

Oluchi, who acknowledged that her three-year-old marriage to her husband had crashed, told journalists that she had no reason to kill him.

Meanwhile, Chigozie told newsmen that it was Oluchi who hired them to kill her husband with a promise to purchase “Tokunbo” cars for each of them after a successful operation.

Hollywood Actress Alleges That Pope Francis Will Be Assassinated This Week

Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon has alleged that Pope Francis will be assassinated this week during his upcoming visit to the U.S. if the security operative do not act fast to avert the murder.

The head of the Catholic Church is set to make his first official trip to the country later this week, starting his tour in Washington, D.C. before heading to New York and Philadelphia.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has already promised to step up security in the Big Apple to make sure the pontiff is kept safe during his visit, but Sarandon fears the Pope may still come to harm.

She tells the New York Daily News, “I think they’re going to assassinate him. I think he’s done some
major, major cleansing of the whole system … I love this pope. He’s humble … He doesn’t live in the palatial whatever. I think he’s a pope of the people.”

De Blasio previously said of the security arrangements for Pope Francis’ visit, “[There is] a great partnership between the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI. We’re ready. We have the personnel, we have the equipment, we have the planning.”

Catholic Priest Assassinated In Imo State

During the weekend, a Claretian priest of the Catholic Church was murdered in Owerri, Imo state.
The priest, whose full identity could not be ascertained at press time, was an academic staff of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, he said the priest was murdered by assassins on a bush path.
Enwerem said:

“The police are suspecting that it was a clear case of assassination. The priest was gruesomely murdered along a very lonely bush path that would have led him into Port Harcourt Road.”

While noting that whatever happened to the priest might be connected with the bickering and happenings in Imo Polytechnic, Enwerem, however, wondered why the Catholic priest chose to use such a lonely bush path.

He said:

“The police are suspecting that whatever happened to the priest cannot be far from the ceaseless bickering emanating from the polytechnic.

“Again, I wonder why the priest chose to use the lonely bush path on his Toyota SUV.”

He confirmed that although the police have recovered the vehicle, no arrests had been made in connection with the crime.
The PPRO said that police patrol teams were despatched to the area as soon as the information was passed on to them.
He said:

“The youths of the community joined the police in combing the surrounding bushes. The hoodlums simply perfected and carried out their damnable act before vanishing into the thin air.”

Enwerem confirmed that the command had not only expanded its dragnet to all corners of the state, but were following all available leads.
Enwerem said: “There is the likelihood that the assassins carefully monitored the priest’s movement and laid ambush for him on his track. Honestly, it was a gruesome murder.”

Photo: Lagos Killer Squad Names Bode George As Sponsor?

*It’s a lie, says aide

“Chief Bode George bought our operational bus for us and stocked the vehicle with arms and ammunition whenever we were going on operation to confront our opponents.” This was the claim of one of the suspected thugs arrested by the police for the killing of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otun Azeez, in Isale-Eko area of Lagos Island last year. The suspect, Adebayo Dipo, 30, and two others – Alade Ogbulu, 30, and Kofi Olumede, 21 – were paraded yesterday by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

Aderanti said the suspects were apprehended by a Crack Squad led by Joel Oguwe. Dipo, who police described as a sharp shooter, was said to be the one who shot Azeez on the chest. At press time, George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was said to be
out of the country. But a very close aide, who craved anonymity, said it was a ploy to tarnish George’s name. He said: “Since Baba (George) started his political career, he has not bought gun or ammunition for any political thug to kill for him. “Baba has not come across anybody with the name Adebayo Dipo who claimed he (George) bought their operational vehicle and ammunition for them.”

The late Azeez was in his house that fateful morning, when someone alerted him that one Abija, a chieftain of PDP and his ‘boys,’ were fomenting trouble in the area. Immediately he heard the news, he rushed to the scene, to check if his boys were among the fighters. He reportedly tried to pacify Abija and his boys who were returning from former President Goodluck Jonathan’s rally at Tafawa Balewa Square. When the late APC chieftain got to Adeniji Adele Plaza junction, he was hit twice in the chest by gunshots from the PDP thugs. He fell down. Olumede, who hails from Ghana, said he came to Nigeria in 2007. He said: “I was into confectionery when I arrived in the country. When the money I was making was not enough, I went to join the PDP gang through a friend. “I was not the one who shot the late Azeez that fateful day.
We were coming from the PDP rally at TBS when some boys confronted us. It was in the process of exchanging fire that gunshots hit him. “Three of our members were also killed that day. To avenge their death, we regrouped and went to Isale-Eko the following day, which was on Sunday, and shot five people to death at Enuowa area of the Island.” On his part, Ogbulu said his duty was to drive the gang whenever it was going out during the campaign period. He said: “I have not killed anybody in my life. All I did was to drive the gang’s vehicle whenever its members were going on operation.

Those of us who were with Abija were not earning salary. All he gave us in return was to fix us at motor parks to collect tolls.” Ogbulu said it was Olumede, Dipo and other members of the gang who went to Isale-Eko a day after Azeez was killed and shot dead five followers of the late APC chieftain.

Dipo said Abija was persuaded by top PDP leaders in Lagos to come to their fold. He added: “Our defection to the party did not go down well with some leaders of APC; that was what led to our fight.” Items recovered from the suspects included one singlebarrelled rifle, four rounds of cartridges, two cutlasses and one axe.
