How teenager’s friend bathed her with acid on her 14th birthday

Family of 14-year-old Victoria Emmanuel is battling to safe her skin after her friend bathed her with acid on her birthday. The incident occurred on March 29, around the night market at Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos State, when the victim’s friends were celebrating her new age.

It was learnt that while her peers were pouring water on her body, one Moshood Yusuf, 13, entered a woman’s shop, brought out a bottle and emptied its content on Victoria.

Yusuf, it was gathered, thought it was a liquid water disinfectant known as Izaal when he poured it on the girl.

Victoria, who just returned from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where she was being treated, said she told Yusuf not to pour the content of the bottle on her since they did not know what was inside.

“It was my birthday. I had gone to fetch water at the night market when my friends stopped me on the road and started pouring the water on me to celebrate my birthday. Some were pouring dirty water on me and others were pouring sand. That was how Moshood ran into Iyawo pastor’s shop and brought out a container. There was something inside and I told him not to pour it on me because we didn’t know what was in it.

“He opened it and said it was smelling like chemical. We told him again that he shouldn’t pour it on me but he didn’t listen. As I walked pass him, he poured the content on my body from behind. I screamed and ran towards the tap but he got there before me and opened it so that water would pour on my body. While I was under the tap, the woman who owned the place chased us away that I was wasting her water. That was the last thing I remembered. I was later told that I fainted and was rushed to the hospital.

“Although one Ganiyu claimed that he told him he was going to hurt me, I don’t know if it is true. He insisted that he thought it was Izaal that was inside, but the shop owner has denied keeping any acid in her shop. The woman was crying and swearing that she didn’t keep anything like that since she has little children, who could have easily gotten to it.”

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Chidinma Emmanuel, lamented the hardship the incident has brought on her family, adding that she has not been able to concentrate on her petty trade. She said her family was not interested in making a case with the other family, but stated that they would appreciate if the expenses incurred were reimbursed.

Moshood’s mother, Mrs. Ganiyat Yusuf, said they were awaiting the final outcome from LASUTH before knowing what to do. She insisted that the incident was a mistake, adding that her son would not hurt anyone intentionally.

“It was just a mistake. In fact, Moshood also got burnt by the acid on his chest and leg. He didn’t know the content of the bottle and since they were jubilating, he poured it on her without knowing. It’s a regrettable mistake. But what we want is for peace to reign. We don’t want a situation where both families would start fighting over it or the two children becoming enemies.”

Married Man Baths Lover With Acid For Refusing To Be Second Wife

A married man, Mr. Chidi Nbosiadinjo, has been accused of hiring two thugs to pour a bucket of acid one Miss Ogochukwu Nwosu, his girlfriend, who turned down the proposal to be his second wife.

The incident took place at about 7pm on 6 October, 2016 at Ilasa bus stop in Lagos State as Ogochukwu returned from work. A relative of Ogochukwu told SaharaReporters that those who witnessed the acid attack said it was carried out by two men, who came on a motorcycle. The one with the bucket of acid jumped down and drenched Ogochukwu with the corrosive substance.

Mr. Peter Nwosu, a brother to Ogochukwu, said Mr. Nbosidianijo became a friend of their family when he helped the first son secure a Malaysian visa after he had been duped four times.

“Mr. Nbosodianijo helped our eldest brother get an original Malaysian visa after our brother tried four times and was duped. Somebody introduced us to him and he connected my brother to someone who eventually helped in getting original visa. Since then, he became a part of the family and our neighbors know him as such,” he said.

It was gathered that Mr. Nbosidianijo, who is married with two kids, proposed to Ogochukwu after about two years of dating, but knowing he is married, she turned down the marriage proposal. This made him angry and he allegedly vowed that he would not let Ogochukwu marry another man because he had spent so much money on her.

“He said if he can’t marry her, another person will not marry her. He said he cannot sow for another man to reap,” Mr. Peter explained.

Ogochukwu’s mother was also said to have told Mr. Nbosidianijo to obtain the approval of his wife to take another wife. She said her daughter’s life was being threatened by Mr. Nbosidinajo’s wife.

Ogochukwu’s brother said he was told by a neighbor that he saw Mr. Nbosidinajo with two men loitering around the victim’s house at Lawason, Lagos a day before the attack.

“A day before the sad event took place, one of our neighbors saw Mr. Nbosidinajo on the decking of our house at Lawason in Surulere late in the evening. He was said to have pointed at our room. This neighbor told our mother and when our mother called Mr. Nbosidinajo to confirm if he came to our house, he admitted that he came. Before that, Ogochukwu also told us that he had gone to her photographer’s place to collect one of her pictures,” said Peter Nwosu.

He added that Mr. Nbosidinajo’s wife called a few hours after the attack to say Ogochukwu had not seen anything yet. “That he said my sister wouldn’t be able to marry another if she doesn’t marry him and his wife calling to issue fresh threats show that the husband and wife ordered the attack,” said Peter Nwosu. Since the attack, Ogochukwu has undergone five major surgeries, and she is preparing for another to open her eyes, which remain shut.

Mr. Peter revealed that the case was reported to Itire Police Station after which it was transferred to Alagbon Police Station where both Mr. and Mrs. Nbosidinajo were arrested and released a couple of days later. However, when our correspondent contacted Mrs. Joyce, the Investigative Officer in charge of the case, she flared up at being phoned and hung up when the question was asked about the incident.

Woman bathed with acid after accepting lover’s proposal

A 25-year-old woman, Ogochukwu Nwosu, is in a critical condition at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos State, after she was bathed with substance suspected to be acid.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ogochukwu was at Ilasa bus stop, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, when a man allegedly dropped from a motorcycle and poured acid on her.

He was said to have jumped back on the motorcycle and fled the scene.

The victim, who sustained burns on her face, neck, breasts, among other parts of her body, was reportedly rushed to LUTH by passersby.

Ogochukwu, who spoke with our correspondent from her hospital bed, accused one Mrs. Chidi, the wife of the man who had proposed marriage to her, as the culprit.

She alleged that Mrs. Chidi had been threatening her on the telephone and through text messages immediately she learnt of her husband’s intention to marry her (Ogochukwu).

She said she had turned down Mr. Chidi’s proposal because he was married, adding that the latter persisted.

“On Thursday, I had closed from Computer Village where I work. Around 8pm, when I reached Ilasa bus stop, I dropped off the bus.

“I was about to cross to the other side of the road when a man dropped from a motorcycle and poured something on me. He immediately fled on the motorcycle. People came to my rescue and took me to the hospital.

“I suspect Mrs. Chidi because she had been threatening me before the incident. And while I was on admission at the hospital, she called and spoke with my brother, saying that was just the beginning,” she added.

Ogochukwu’s brother, Peter, said he recorded a part of the conversation with Mrs. Chidi on his mobile phone.

Peter said he reported the incident at the Itire Police Division, adding that Mrs. Chidi was arrested and detained for two days before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

Our correspondent, however, gathered that the police admitted the suspect to bail shortly after the matter got to the SCIID.

PUNCH Metro learnt that counsel to the victim, Louis Nwaugbala and Anthony Obi, had already petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, over the matter.

A copy of the petition, obtained by our correspondent, read in part, “Sometime in 2012, one Mr. Chidi approached our client and started making advances to her and promised to marry her. But she vehemently refused the proposal. She told him that she was not interested in the marriage since he was already married.

“Upon Mr. Chidi’s insistence of wanting to marry our client and even making preparations to visit our client’s family to formalise the marriage rites, our client advised Mr. Chidi to inform his wife of his plans to take our client as his second wife, since both of them will be cohabiting in the same house.

“Immediately Mr. Chidi made his plans known to his wife, all hell broke loose as Mrs. Chidi started calling and persistently threatening our client’s life through phone calls, text and Whatsapp messages.”

The petition alleged that the suspect threatened to wreak havoc before December 2016, the purported month of the traditional marriage between Mr. Chidi and Ogochukwu.

It added that Ogochukwu was persuaded against reporting the threat to the police by Mr. Chidi, who allegedly promised to persuade his wife to accept the union.

It said tragedy struck when the victim was attacked while she was returning from work on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Nwaugbala, the victim’s lawyer, said justice must be served in the case, adding that Ogochukwu must be flown abroad for plastic surgery by the suspect and her husband.

“That is the only thing that can assuage the damage presently done to her. She should be flown abroad for treatment,” he added.

When contacted, Mr. Chidi declined comment, referring our correspondent to the police at the SCIID.

He said, “I cannot speak with you, neither can my wife. The case is under investigation at the SCIID. Go and speak with the police at Panti; they are the ones investigating it. We cannot make any comment.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She explained that Mrs. Chidi was released on bail because she could not be directly linked to the attack.

She said, “It was reported that the victim was bathed with acid by two men on a motorcycle. The victim alleged that she suspected the woman because she (the victim) is a girlfriend to Mr. Chidi and because she (victim) might likely marry the man, Mrs. Chidi might have planned the attack.

“Mrs. Chidi was picked up, made to undergo investigation and the command could not get any clue linking her to the case for now. And to protect her right, she was granted bail. Investigation is still ongoing to unravel what actually happened. Anyone linked to the case will be duly prosecuted.”

36-Year-Old Woman Jailed For Life For Attacking Her Husband With Acid

Vernicia Ruguru was yesterday, September 9, found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by an embu court for burning her husband, Patrick Njue with acid on July 16, 2012 in Embu North, Kenya.

The 36-year-old claimed she committed the offense in self-defense, after the husband attempted to splash the acid on her. However, Principal Magistrate Robinson Oigara dismissed the claim stating that she would have sustained some injuries if that was the case.

On the day of the incident, the defendant is said to have prepared the children for school, completed her house chores then later walked into their bedroom where Patrick was lying in bed, and splashed acid on him. She then locked the door and escaped only for the neighbours to hear screams from the house, before coming to Njue’s rescue.

Evidence presented in court proved that on hearing the husband was still alive, she rushed to the hospital Njue was admitted, in an attempt to finish her mission. Vernicia Ruguru was sentenced to life in prison but was granted 14 days to appeal the judgement.
