Man, 24, Rapes Neighbour’s Three Year Old Daughter

A 24-year-old unemployed man, Blessing Agboola, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for defiling a 3-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, remanded Agboola in prison after he had pleaded guilty for defiling the minor.

Elias adjourned the case to Dec. 5 for sentencing.

The accused, who resides at Odutola St., Alimosho, a suburb of Lagos, was charged for defilement.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rafael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed on Oct. 28 at the accused residence.

Donny said that the accused defiled a 3-year-old daughter of his neighbour in his room.

“It was the cry of the baby that alerted her mother and caught the accused in the act,” he said.

He said that the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Domestic Servant, 24, Jailed 8 Months For Stealing Gold Worth N250, 000

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a domestic servant, Sarah Akapa, to eight months imprisonment for stealing her employers gold neck chain and two earrings worth N250, 000.

Akapa of Ketu, a suburb of Lagos State, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
Delivering her judgment, the Magistrate, Mrs O. S. Amzat, advised the convict to turn a new leaf while in prison after sentencing her to eight months imprisonment with no option of fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the offence was committed on Oct. 31 at the complainant’s house.
Ihiehie said the complainant reported the incident at Ketu Police Station in the early hours of Nov. 6.

“The complainant, a trader, said that on Oct. 31 her house help stole her gold neck chain valued at N100, 000 and two gold earrings valued at N150, 000.

“When she was questioned, she confessed that she had given the items to her ex- boyfriend who came down from Ajah to collect them from her.
The offence committed contravened section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Multinational Military Task Force Arrests 24 Boko Haram Fighters

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) fighting Boko Haram, said it intercepted 24 fleeing insurgents along the Cameroonian borders.

The spokesman for the task force, Muhammed Dole, said the insurgents were among those trying to escape the combined onslaught of Nigerian troops and the MNJTF within and around Sambisa forest.

Mr. Dole said several arms cache were recovered in the operation that led to the clearance of six major enclaves of the outlawed group.

His statement reads:

“Clearing operation to flush out the fleeing Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Area of Responsibility (AOR) continues to yield positive results. The troop of Sector 1 with its relocated Tactical Headquarters in Makary, Northern Cameroun intensifies clearance operations along the borders between Nigeria and Cameroun to block the fleeing terrorists. Recently, the terrorists in attempt to escape the firepower of MNJTF troops were migrating to some villages adjacent to the Sector 1 AOR.

“Acting on credible information, the troops successfully cleared the six villages occupied by the terrorists, seized some logistic equipment and apprehended Twenty Four suspected Boko Haram accomplices.

“The cleared villages are SAGUI, KIRTA-WOULGO, GORE MAHAMAT, GORE BLANGAFE, CHAUGRY and DAMBOURE. The recovered equipment are 20 x Outboat Engines, 2 x Motorcycles, 9 x Generating sets, 1 x Solar panel, 1 x Grinding machine, 1 x Handset, Flags and some Islamic religious books. However, one soldier was killed by Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and another fatally wounded and lost his one of his lower limbs during the operation.

“Addressing the troops during his operational assessment tour in Makary, the Commander, MNJTF, Major General Lamidi Adeosun commended their display of exceptional bravery and charged them to keep up the good work, while encouraging the traditional authorities in the area to set up vigilante groups to compliment the effort of the security forces.

“Equally, on a similar visit to Sector 2 troops (Chad) at their temporary Harbour Area in Littri, the Commander expressed delight for their initial operational exploits, which despite difficult terrains and other operational challenges were able to clear terrorists from some villages on the Lake Chad Islands. He couraged them to maintain their high fighting spirit and keep up the momentum of the operation despite the challenges of the slow go terrains”.

US Donates 24 Armoured Personel Carriers To Nigeria

As part of its effort at supporting the fight against Boko Haram, the United States’ Government donated 24 Mine-Resistant, Armour-Protected (MRAP) Vehicles to Nigeria.

The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, presented the vehicles to Nigerian Government at the 9 Brigade Parade Ground in Ikeja, Lagos.

Represented by the U.S. Defense Attache, Col. Patrick Doyle, Entwistle said the gesture was part of his government’s continued support for Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.

“The sacrifices that have been made by Nigeria to help the Nigerian people and the West African countries in the fight against Boko Haram is commendable.

“I believe that the U.S. commitment to Nigeria is second to none.

“We will continue to support the Nigerian Government in its fight against Boko Haram.

“We are, therefore, presenting these 24 vehicles to the Nigerian Army to aid them in their assignments,’’ he said.

Entwistle said that his government was donating the vehicles through its Excess Defense Articles Programme, adding that the Nigerian Government arranged for the transportation of the vehicles to Lagos from the U.S.

The Envoy also said that it would be the responsibility of Nigeria to repair some of the vehicles that were not in good condition.

Entwistle said that the U.S. government was currently downsizing its troops, and had decided to donate some of its MRAPs to his partner countries like Nigeria.
