Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged Nigerians to see the 2015 elections as sacrosanct and not allow the Valentine Day celebrated on Feb. 14 every year to deter them from casting their votes. However, other speakers grumbled over the clash.
The residents, in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, expressed their resolve to vote during the elections, stressing that it was their civic duty to do so.
Those who grumbled, however, recognised the importance of the elections and the need for them to cast their votes, adding that it would not stop them from celebrating with their friends and loved ones.
While noting that Valentine Day was celebrated annually, voting in the forthcoming election was a good opportunity for them to participate in electing credible leaders.
Mr Emmanuel Gofwan told NAN that people wishing to celebrate the Valentine Day could still do so whichever way they chose to, after carrying out their civic duty.
“My family and I will come out to vote during the elections; no valentine will stop us.
“I have been married to my wife for over 30 years; we have celebrated enough Valentine in our lives, missing this one will not cause any problems.
“We will celebrate it at home this year; my children will partake in the celebration which is also a good one,” he said.
Also commenting, Mr Godwin Adzer, a resident of Wuse Zone 5, urged Nigerians to come out en masse to vote for their candidates, describing the 2015 elections as sacrosanct.
Adzer said: “Everyday should be celebrated as Valentine Day by couples. Everyday is Valentine for me and my wife.
