The Onus to combat terrorism lies with government.  But it has become inchoate amidst socialists and oppositions (strong, weak, yet-to-be- formed) political parties in Nigeria, owing largely to fragility and systemic flaws of Nigeria Armed Forces to tackle the menace. Nowhere is this deadly attack more evident than in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where recent massacre by Boko Haram claimed lives of many civilians and left lots recovering from injuries.

Yet, centenary celebration  was glamorous as its fun fair put smile on faces, of many whose antecedent of treachery,  abysmal human right record and looting made the vast majority of  Nigerians consider them as bagging home an undeserved award.

As a thinker, one rising from Nigeria as a contemporary political analyst. I once engaged myself in logic and reason, just in an attempt to arrive at “Lietmotif” of Insurgents activities up North. I arrived at the conclusion, knowing fully their activities is purely          anti-western both in ideology and execution.

Though, religiously inclined intrinsically, with appellation pronouncing anti-western education, the recent Buni-Yadi’s massacre in Yobe State is the most shocking to me in recent time. No Islamic scholar or any adherent of that great and prestigious religion would support such an attack on promising young citizens.

Needless to say, the resultant effect of activities of this marauders and bomb bugs on Nigerian economy is that “outsiders perception will be that Nigeria is a hostile and            high-risk environment for foreign companies to operate in”, thereby reducing our Foreign Direct Investment FDI in coming years.

Overtime, Boko Haram has spread its principles, not only with words but with deeds. Nigeria military expressed assurance about containment of Insurgents activities, but all to no avail hitherto.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE SPECIAL LEGISLATION ON TERRORISM

Demographically, North is much more important to Nigeria than Nigeria is to North. 2006 Census figure permitted such leverage.

It is pertinent to advise, if not suggest, that in the course of the National Conference which will commence on 17th March, 2014. Special sessions should be held in consonance with terrorism vis-à-vis Islamic terrorism, such legislations must involve consultation to leading authorities on SHARIA LAW. Such dialogue must be developed under the auspices of the Sharia Courts, invited notable Grand Khadis, whose previous pronouncements on Sharia Cases merits them to interpret what is truly entrenched in the Holy Quran and Hadiths on what action(s) is to be meted on Islamic terrorists if apprehended.

This move will prevent resurgence of terrorism. It also serves as a pre-caution to terrorism by any groups from other part of the country.

All parties engaging in this CONFAB, regardless of their religion, ethnic or political differences should endeavour to be co-operative towards enhancing Nigerian’s collective security.

Internally, any ability to provide lasting solutions to terrorism in Nigeria by ourselves opens the prospect of getting fair hearing and respect in international forums.

CONCLUSION

I urge the government of the day to expedite actions in institutionalizing TSANGAYA/ALMAJIRI education system. This proposal was part of the 644 memoranda that was forwarded to the Sen. Femi Okurounmu led committee on National Dialogue in December, 2013.

Such orientation acquired from this education system goes a long way in instilling concern for humanity in the child, the male fold will also desist from engagement in any act under the flavour or disguise of Islamist revolutionary Jargon.

Negligence and inertia to critically address issues ranging from terrorism to insecurity during the course of the national conference could render Nigeria’s security project a long hard slog, one that seeks to exacerbate, permeate and snowball into a deteriorating security situation in the North and other regions of the country.
