It was at the 2013 African Cup of nations triumph that Victor Moses emerged as one of the leading lights of the Super Eagles along with Mikel, Emenike and a host of others as Nigeria lifted the continental trophy.
Since arriving at Wigan Athletic in 2010, Roberto Martinez had faith that Moses will fulfill his potential as a real star of the game. In return, Moses served met the expectations of the fans at the DW Stadium with performances that showed value for their investment in him. And it was not long before he eventually signed for Chelsea Fc in 2012. He went on to make 43 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions scoring 10 goals.
However, with the arrival of the former “Special One”, “The Only One” and now “The Happy One”, I am not too sure if Moses is still in the plans of the football club. The following reasons suggest that for Moses to continue to improve; he might have to take the hard decision of looking for regular football somewhere.
Playing Time
For a young and talented footballer like Moses; the only thing that ensures he eventually fulfill his potential is to play football and nothing else but football. It is evident that players who play for big clubs but due to a reason or the other sit on the bench without commensurate playing time never realized their full potentials. For Moses, this should not be an issue at all as a lot of great footballers in time past had opted for regular playing time to develop their game. It is my opinion that should Moses realize that regular paying time will afford him the opportunity to improve his game; then, he might have to leave Chelsea Fc now.
The Arrival of Andre Schurrle
Andre Schurrle became the first player to be signed by “The Happy One”. The implication of his arrival is that Moses will now have to share his playing time with him as competition for starting places on the Chelsea wings gets tougher with Hazard and Oscar as firm favorites to start most of the games. Once again, to ensure that Moses continues to develop; he must depart Chelsea FC.
Roberto Martinez
After guiding Wigan Athletic to a memorable season where they won the FA Cup and got relegated from the English Premier League, Roberto Martinez, the man who nurtured Moses at Wigan had since moved to Everton. The rumor mills have it that Martinez would be interested in reuniting with his prodigy once again. I am of the opinion that should such an opportunity presents itself, Moses must realize that he can never become the world star he wishes to become sitting on expensive benches across Europe. The world needs a Victor Moses who plays week in week out. And Everton could be the team that presents Moses with that kind of platform. Football is played on the pitch and not on the bench!
