To fill up the vacuum in its health sector, the Kebbi State government has sponsored 32 students to study Medicine and Pharmacy in Sudan and India.

Out of the students, 12 were sent to Sudan while 20 to India under the sponsorship of the state government.

Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Usman Umar Kambaza, who confirmed this, on Wednesday, in Birnin Kebbi, said those that went to Sudan have returned to the state and start their medical attachment training while others will graduate this year and 2018.

Said he, “We have students who are studies medicines, laboratory in India, Sudan and all their needs were met by the government”.

Kambaza said that the state also employed about 17 doctors, 33 nurses, 18 laboratory scientist into the health sector to ensure prompt delivery of adequate health care to people at various hospitals in the state.

He disclosed that about 331,000 euro were received from international organization stressing that about 225 Primary Health care facilities have been rehabilitated in collaboration with European Union and UNICEF.

Kambaza said that the state would expand and renovate 13 general hospitals across the state stressed that it would improved delivery of health services to the grass-root.

Speaking on HIV/AIDS status in the state, Commissioner said the statistic before him showed that the state has less than one percent of the disease adding that the state continue its campaign against the killer disease and need for the people to stop stigmatized the people living with, HIV/AIDS.
