Students leader accuses Bauchi government of intimidating oppositions

A factional leader of National Association of Bauchi State Student Union (NUBASS), Nasiru Nuhu Cigari has accused Bauchi State Government of frustrating and intimidating pressure groups that refuses to play to its tune.

He stated this in a statement while reacting to the refusal of the state government to allow the conduct of the Aminu Saleh Memorial Lecture and Award, slated for Saturday 14th January 2017.

Cigari accused the government of dictatorship, anarchy and tyranny.

He alleged that the Chief of Staff of the State government was the one behind the cancellation of the event because he was nursing a grudge against late Aminu Saleh’s Family.

Cigari said that as a law-abiding citizen, he had earlier notified the police of the proposed event in a letter which was duly signed and acknowledged nine days before the event.

“Few hours to the event, I received a phone call from the Nigeria Police, Bauchi Command and the Department of State Security Service, inviting me for some clarifications. When I arrived the headquarters of the police command, I met the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations who informed me of their decision to put a halt to the event and blamed me for not properly notifying the police,” he said.

He however said that the Assistant Commisioner of police showed him a government letter which described the event as an illegal gathering and threatened to arrest him if he goes ahead with the proposed event.

While reacting to the allegations by the National President, the Senior Special Assistant to the Bauchi Governor, Sabo Mohammed said that the Factional National President was an impersonator who was not legally elected as the president of the association.

He said that the factional president was sponsored by his Abuja based politicians who were fighting the government who he alleged were using various ways to fight.

“I advised the so called National President to concentrate on his studies and graduate from the university instead of allowing these politicians to use him in achieving thier selfish ambitions”, he said?.
