The top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL 2015/16 season, Godwin Obaje, has received N100,000 as well as a golden boot from the Rashidi Yekini Foundation.
Obaje, who scored 18 goals last season, also received a commendation letter from the Foundation which was signed by the Late Yekini’s daughters, Yemisi and Moriam.
The duo welcomed the Wikki Tourists player into the league of top scorers where their father held sway in his active football days.
Jubril Mohammed, the lawyer to the late legend, who presented the award to Obaje in Ijebu-Ode over the weekend, told Premium Times that the foundation would continually work towards sustaining the legacies of the Yekini.
“The Foundation has institutionalised this award so it won’t be a one-off,” he said.
He added: “We at the Rashidi Yekini Foundation feel it is important to do something to keep his memory alive, it is our belief that his efforts must not go without immortalising his name appropriately.
On his part, Joshua Obaje, who received the award on behalf of his brother who is away in Europe, thanked the Rashidi Yekini Foundation for the gesture.
