Ipaja Residents Lament LAWMA’s Negligence In Refuse Collection.

Residents of Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Ipaja in the Alimosho axis of Lagos has expressed their displeasure on the situation of the Bravo G playing ground on E Street in the estate. The issue has grown into into a cause for worry for the residents as the street is loaded with refuse deposited by unknown individuals in that area.

Speaking on the issue, a resident of the area disclosed that the spot was turned into into a refuse dump as the officers of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) are not regular in the area. He stressed that as a result, residents opt to dump refuse on the road side in anticipation that LAWMA would come to take them.

“LAWMA comes here every 3weeks but recently, the arrangement has changed which is why I think people dump refuse on the road,” he added.

It was also learnt that dumping refuse by the road side has become a trend in the Ipaja axis due to the anticipation from residents that LAWMA will come pick them up when necessary.

A landlord in the area told InsideMainland that the community members have tried their best to curb the act of dumping refuse by the roadside but yet to get the desired result. He however added that measures a put in place to punish whoever is caught in the act accordingly.

He further appealed to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to ensure refuse in the area are picked up on time to avoid the health risk associated with such event.
