Plateau Govt. To Renovate Rural Primary Schools

The Plateau Government on Monday said that the renovation of dilapidated primary school buildings in rural areas was one of its major priorities.
Prof Mathew Sule, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that there was already a list of projects to be embarked upon.
He said only 47 per cent of the 19, 155 public schools in the state were in fairly good shape, and the government would renovate the structures based on a scale of preference.

“We are working towards addressing this challenge but are incapacitated at the moment financially.
We have paid the N1 billion counterpart funds required of us to access resources for such projects and are waiting for the release of these funds to commence work.
“We are aware that basic education structure, especially in rural areas, are clamouring for urgent attention and plead for more patience to have access to the resources required for such projects,’’ he said.
Sule said that the board was in the process of procuring learning materials to ensure quality basic education delivery.
He said that the board also intended to promote sporting activities in public primary schools, adding that equipment would soon be provided to ensure this.
The SUBEB chairman appealed to parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards in schools to ensure their education.
‘’ An idle and uninformed child can easily be cajoled to join deviant activities; parents should ensure their children are not susceptible to such influence by enrolling them in schools and training them in the way of God,’’ he said.
