Jigawa Inaugurates 15-Member Advisory Council On Prerogative Of Mercy

The Jigawa Government has inaugurated a 15-member advisory council to advise the governor on the exercise of prerogative of mercy.

 

Malam Isma’il Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said that the council was inaugurated by the SSG, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir.

 

Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse that members of the council were advised to discharge their duties with probity and fear of God.

 

The spokesman quoted Abdulkadir as saying that the council’s function was to advise the state governor on the exercise of his prerogative of mercy as conferred on him by section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

 

The SSG said the members were appointed based on their individual track records and experience in their different professions and endeavours.

 

Ibrahim said that the council had Alhaji Usman Baffa as Chairman, Khadi Bashir as Vice Chairman and Alhaji Abdu Garba as Secretary.

 

Other members include Dr. Fatima Ibrahim, Muhammad Abdu, Dr. Nasiru Adamu, Isah Sa’idu, Babaiyo S. Yaya, Dayyaba Sha’aibu, Abdullahi Umar and Abdulkadir Musa.

 

The state Attorney General, Comptroller of Prison Services in the state and a Senior Legal Officer from Ministry of Justice are also members.
