The only known wild jaguar in the United States has been caught on camera roaming parts of an Arizona mountain range.
The big cat, nicknamed El Jefe – Spanish for The Boss – has been living in the Santa Rica Mountains just north of the Mexican border, for over three years, the Center for Biological Diversity believes.
The seven-year-old animal is one of only four or five jaguars seen in the US in the last 20 years.
Jaguars, which are regarded as “near threatened” in the wild in South and Central America, were at one time common in the southwest United States but were hunted to near extinction by the 1960s.
