Hanna Lottritz was declared brain dead after a night of extreme binge drinking landed her in a coma. As she lay in a hospital bed, doctors observing her thought there was little hope she would survive.

Now, she wants people to hear her story in hopes of preventing something similar. Lottritz shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed as she struggled to survive accompanied by a moving blog post about her ordeal. The post and her photo have since gone viral, with her blog receiving more than 380,000 hits she shared her story.

Lottritz’s story is a chilling reminder of recent tragedies that involve drinking and young people, such as Shelby Allen who died after drinking 15 shots of vodka, and Humberto Moura Fonseca who died after consuming 25 shots in 60 seconds.

Lottritz said she wrote the post “because I didn’t realize the importance of drinking responsibly until I was waking up from a coma, and I don’t want anyone to go through what my family and I went through.”
