Insecurity: NASS To Review Laws Governing Operations Of Security Agencies – Sen. Wamakko

Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto) says the laws governing the operations of various security agencies in the country would be reviewed by the National Assembly.

 
This is to reposition the security organisations to tackle the prevailing security challenges in threatening the country, Wamakko told newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday.

 

“While reviewing these extant laws, new ones would be enacted to make the various security agencies more efficient and effective,” Wamakko, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Defence, added.

 

“The major aim is to enhance the operations of the various security agencies and in the process bolster the protection of the lives and property of all Nigerians.

 

The committee had since met with all the service chiefs, with a view to finding out the state of insecurity in the country and how to get out of the quagmire soonest.

 

The aim of the move is also to make Nigerians sleep with their two eyes closed, and get Nigeria and Nigerians out of the present security concerns,” he added.

 

Wamakko also said that the committee had extracted sound and encouraging commitments from all the service chiefs in this direction.

 

The former governor further expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon get out of its present security predicaments.

 

“We will also conduct our oversight and law making functions honestly, effectively, piously and sincerely. The ongoing Dasukigate saga should have been avoided if the above had been done, because it would have been detected.

 

In 2016, a Naira for defence will be a Naira for defence, a Naira for education will be a Naira for education and a Naira for social welfare, etc, would be a Naira for social welfare of Nigerians,’’ said Wamakko.
