The Nigeria Para-badminton Federation has concluded arrangement to stage its maiden National Championship to mark the United Nations Day for persons with disability.
Samuel Ekeoma, President of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the championship would hold from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3 in Umuahia,
NAN reports that the UN International Day for persons with disability is annually observe on Dec. 3.
“We want to take advantage of the annual day set aside for persons with disability to stage the first para-badminton in the country to create awareness about the sport.
“Para-badminton is relatively new in the country, so we want the physical challenged people to take advantage of it to engage themselves,’’ he said.
Ekeoma said that the categories of players that would participate were wheel chair classes, standing classes comprising of upper and lower amputee and partial physical disabilities.
The president urged participants to take advantage of the event to enhance their technicality in the sport.
He added that the championship would be sponsored by a non-governmental organisation, Moslynwill Global Partnership for Development, in collaboration with the federation.
