Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara has appealed to Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to offer special prayers for unity and peaceful co-existence among the different segments of the Nigerian people.
The governor made the call in Gusau as Muslims the world over mark the new Islamic year 1437 after the hijra of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makka to Madina.
The call by Gov. Yari is contained in a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkareem Tsafe, made available in Gusau.
The governor said “as the religion that is built on peace, it is mandatory for all Muslims to continue to preach the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by being good to all.’’
He added that it was the collective prayers of Nigerians that made possible a smooth transition and handover of government from a ruling party to an opposition party.
He urged politicians to set aside party affiliations since elections were now over “and try to justify the confidence Nigerian electorate reposed in those elected by ensuring peace, security, economic growth and fairness to all.’’
While congratulating the Muslim community for witnessing another Islamic year beginning on Oct. 14, Yari urged all terror groups and criminal groups to lay down their arms and join well-meaning Nigerians for national growth.
