Launching an official channel on the music-streaming website, the White House said he “handcrafted” the lists himself.
Mr Obama unveiled the daytime and evening summer music lists containing nearly 40 hits on his @POTUS official Twitter account.
The daytime effort includes songs from Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.
His evening list features old favourites such as The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane and Billie Holiday.
But the commander in chief, who is in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, on a two-week holiday, apparently enjoys rocking out to more contemporary artists, too.
He also picked Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Coldplay and Florence + The Machine.
Mr Obama reveals a romantic streak with the listing of love songs such as Van Morrison’s Moondance, Al Green’s How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? and Otis Redding’s I’ve Got Dreams To Remember.
The inclusion of Sinatra’s The Best Is Yet To Come may leave some wondering whether he is sending a message to those who call him a lame-duck leader.
His Spotify foray is part of the White House’s efforts to boost its social media outreach.
