Rights Group Alleges Sabotage In Federal Secretariat Fire, Calls For Probing

The Human Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for a probe into the fire outbreaks that razed the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja. The pro-human rights organisation alleged sabotage.

“We find it shocking that a high profile housing assets like the Federal Secretariat Complex located within the precincts of the Three Arms zone adjacent the imposing State House Aso Rock in Abuja could be set ablaze and civil servants working in those premises are exposed to unmitigated risks to their lives,” HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, jointly stated.

On Thursday, a section of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja has been gutted by fire.

The fire, believed to have started at the section housing the Federal Ministry of Education, started from the sixth floor and extended to other floors of the expansive complex.

Fire-fighters were reported to have battled to control the fire from spreading to other parts of the complex.

“Sadly there are no functional fire fighting facilities located within the premises. This is an abomination,” HURIWA stated.

There were no casualties while the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of publication.
