INEC Delta Commissioner Confident Of Credible Poll

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner for Delta State, Aniedi Ikiowak, said the agency was working on problems encountered during the recent general election to ensure hitch-free polls this coming weekend. He gave the assurance in Asaba, the state capital, during an INEC Select Stakeholders’ Emergency Meeting.

The meeting was called to address all identified challenges in the March 28 elections and to proffer ways in dealing with these challenges to make the upcoming election credible. “Adequate measures are being put in place to ensure a hitch free election.

All the logistics and card reader challenges experienced in the last election are being adequately addressed,” Ikiowak assured stakeholders.

He reminded party agents to work within their limit in the course of electoral material distribution and not to disrupt the work of the commission. He also called for the protection of all INEC staff especially the adhoc staff in the course of their duties.

While the March 28 polls were hailed as free and fair, a number of glitches characterised the election process. Among these were dysfunctional card readers as well as a shortage of voting material, which saw the election spill to the following day in some parts of the country.
