Armed robbers on Thursday attacked and shot five players of Nigeria league champions Kano Pillars, including Super Eagles attacker Gambo Mohammed.

Other players affected are Ogbonaya, Eneji Otekpa, Murtala Adamu, and Moses Ekpai. The players were traveling by road to honour a league game against Heartland in Owerri. The game, scheduled for Saturday March 7, is the first of the new season billed to kick off on same date.

Media head of Kano Pillars Idris Malikawa told News24 Nigeria that the incident happened along Abaji/Lokoja road around 1pm on Thursday.

He said players’ phones and other valuables were stolen from them. The players are now receiving treatment in a hospital in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
